Description I thought this as a child till I went to Disney world by flight. Of course I didn't become an atheist till a decade later, but I think this gave me a push.

Because gods are likely hiding in the clouds. (sarcasm)

I don't believe in God or heaven but I think there is a place in the world for metaphor. At least when kids are old enough to understand them, anyway.

On the other hand, I love how sensible most children are. They seem to know much better than adults the difference between truth and fiction. What goes wrong and changes that? :-{

(Great comic, btw, especially the bottom panels. )

Thank you!

I always thought that adults forget that children can be wiser than they think.

I understand what you mean by metaphors. But it reminds me of my belief that Santa is a starter god.

Santa is creepy. :-S Going into children's bedrooms at night and leaving them presents... My parents were so relieved when I worked out that it was them leaving the presents, 'cos they wouldn't have to keep up the charade any more.

my mother told me that Heaven was on the biggest cloud there was. So in vain I would look up at the sky and try to figure out of the clouds I saw, which one was Heaven.

I remember when I was 3 or 4 and my great-grandmother died.

My mother is not religious, and in fact when I was older (like 6), she told me no one knew what happens after death.
But when my great-grandmother died, and I asked where she was, mom told me she was in Heaven. Presumably because she thought she should shield me from truth or something.

She told me this in Finnish, and in Finnish the word for 'Heaven' and 'sky' are the same. So, one, I thought the idea of corpses floating on the sky was cross. Not to mention unpractical. How did they stay up? Were they in space?

And secondly, I was pretty certain she had been buried underground.

At that moment I realized adults just bullshitted you sometimes.

Children can be surprisingly logical...often way more than adults

You put "And that's how Vanessa became at atheist" instead of "And that's how Vanessa became an atheist".

Otherwise, I love it, it definitely made me laugh.

Sorry, I was looking at it wrong and I thought the "at" in "atheist" was a word on its own and I was reading it as it was supposed to be "an". I should never comment on work when I'm drunk.

I was lucky to have honest parents. I feel sorry for the kids who get coddled with lies.

Nothing like lies to foster adult cynicism.
