and the advice I was going to give was to make the background either a lot darker or lighter so that there's more contrast between the characters and the background. an easy way to test this is to temporarily make your picture grayscale and see if you can distinguish between everything; having better contrast helps draw the eye to certain places!

Of course! You deserve it! <3 I actually keep a hue-adjustment layer on top of everything else when I'm working on something to check and see if there's good contrast or not! The eyes register contrast as shapes before color, so it's really important. Some people even work in grayscale first and only use black to white and then add in color later.
