I wish they had developed her character a bit more, but she's probably in my top 5. I like the fact that she and Ty Lee are dangerous without being benders, which is something that I think there isn't much of on the show.

well, we have (of course) Sokka and Suki (and the whole Kyoshi Warriors gang) who do manage to be quite badass (and dangerous for their enemies) without being benders
there are of course many more cool non-benders, but ah i shouldn't start yapping on about that
i think that Mai is developed pretty well! i mean, there are so many characteres in Avatar and all of them got their share of development, it's not really that easy to pull of.

Yeah, but I felt like there could've been a bit more... And you're right, the amount of character development in the series is a gigantic undertaking and they really pulled it off.

yeah, i agree. but eh, i can't really see a minus there either, because that's when all of the badass non-benders we do have become even cooler.
and there aren't THAT many really powerful firebenders (though there's enough of them
