Hi,

As part of the Stanley Kubrick exhibition being held from 23 March to 21 July 2011 in Paris, the Cinémathèque Française* is launching an ambitious project to bring together, online, quintessential artwork (photos, videos, drawings, posters, installations and other media) paying tribute to Kubrick across the World Wide Web. Stanley Kubrick seems to be one of the filmmakers whose works have most influenced creativity on the Internet, whether inspired by a quotation or a rereading of one his works. It also seems logical and relevant to analyse this phenomenon, by bringing together and uniting the best pieces in a virtual exhibition and studying how and why Stanley Kubrick became such a cult filmmaker for a whole generation of artists born into the Internet era.

Over 200 pieces have been selected thus far, to which we would like to add your work that particularly caught our attention and which is a wonderful fit for our project. We would love to feature your outstanding piece in our virtual exhibition.

We would like your authorisation to reproduce and include your work in the virtual exhibition to be showcased on our website www.cinematheque.fr, free of charge, for the duration of the time the Cinémathèque Française website is on line.

You must be able to guarantee that your work is entirely original and was created by yourself alone.

In return for the free use of your work, we can ensure high visibility of your piece (press and web coverage, social networks, showcase on cinematheque.fr, etc.). We can, of course, provide a link from the page featuring your piece on our website to your personal website (or any other link that you feel would be appropriate). We are also happy for you to supply the text to accompany your photo or video to explain in your own words your perspective, your relationship with Kubrick and his work, and so forth. We can guarantee that your work will not be commercially exploited in any way.

With the exception of a handful of initiatives (Tate Modern and Brooklyn Museum, for example), few institutions or museums are taking notice of the creativity of Internet users. We hope to generate a surge of interest around these new forms of creativity and homage, and truly hope that you agree to take part in this ambitious web project.

Best regards,

Xavier Jamet – Webmaster
