Description I'm really digging this marker and pen technique I picked up from Scott Robertson www.youtube.com/user/scottrobe… the guys a badass if you haven't checked out his videos please do. This is also concept art, I've got some ideas percolating in my head and I'm putting bits and pieces together, I won't say more now, but I'm pretty excited.

Markers, technical pens, and white gel pen on cheap paper.

Looks good for a dreamed up scene, congratulations. However, if you will get online and start studying cliffs and mountainsides, you will soon see that most rocks have a pattern to them and that pattern is very complex. This looks like it is probably a form of schist. If you don't know what that means, you need to put in a couple of days to study rock.

Yeah i love rocks and study them every chance i get, and the rocks here are definitely sub par, they could use more detail and a more cohesive structure. I also wish i'd gotten some more architectural detail into the background. One of the limitations of not using a pencil is you end up with a lot of woulda shoulda coulda That's one reason i haven't totally accepted this style. It looks cool and goes faster than my normal methods, but you lose a certain amount of control unless you plan really heavily at the beginning, and that kind of ruins the whole point of it.

I didn't mean to say that what you did was bad. In fact, I'd like to colour it. I can't draw for nada, but I am reasonably good at laying on colour. I can take advantage of the hints you have given with your line work and make all that rock look like a sandstone, which is where most cliff dwellings are made.

I appreciate honest opinions. I'm here to get better, you really don't need to worry about hurting my feelings. And if you want to color it feel free, just credit me when you post it and link me so I can check it out

I wasn't worried about hurting your feelings. If something a stranger says hurts you badly enough that you want to quit, then you should either quit or get in some more practice. Either way, that saves you from wasting your time.

Yeah, you'd be surprised how many people attempting to be professional artists can't take a critique. Personally i thrive on them. It makes you look at the picture from someone elses viewpoint.

This is really brilliant. Is it planned with like perspective and stuff or just freehand?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VinceAndrews In reply to mutantcomix [2014-11-13 01:50:51 +0000 UTC]

it's freehand, i just started with a really light marker messing around with shapes and then built up values, it's based in techniques i learned from Scott Robertsons videos
