Interesting tidbit: twinkling is due to turbulence in Earth's atmosphere. Stars don't twinkle in space mostly because their sheer enormity puts lower limits on the time over which they can vary. The fastest pulsating variables have periods of over an hour. If you want something that looks like it's twinkling, the best places to look are around compact stellar remnants, particularly pulsars and microquasars where the emitting regions are only a few kilometers across and spin at relativistic speeds.
