Description
I finished this piece last year just in time for the Avengers movie to come out, and looking back it clearly was rushed and not my best. So I decided to go back to it and start from scratch, building up this piece to the one it's truly supposed to be, the piece worthy enough of the super soldier himself, Captain America.

I decided to use the same pose with a couple of tweaks that I always found wrong with my initial piece. First off, I fixed up the face, giving him a lot more detail and making his expression a lot more calm and collected as compared to my first face which looked too cartoony. I also altered his basic anatomy, fixing up his right fist, his chest, and bulked up his legs too and gave him more defined boots. The colours were altered as well, giving him a more vibrant blue to match the reds and whites, whereas the old piece had a slightly darker hue of blue. The scales of his upper chest were also edited, and I made sure to follow a strict pattern of alternating scales to give a more structured look to his costume (that by itself took up two nights).

The biggest change I made was his iconic shield. The old shield was not proportioned, detailed, or shaped well in any possible way, and the way it looked always bugged me. Now, I managed to slightly change the angle up to show more of the shield's details, and each circle took me quite a while to perfect to ensure the lines were all straight. The shading I did was carefully done, and I wanted to bring out the vibrance of the colours and put much more of a shine to it. This in particular was something I learned just recently and I'm glad I managed to apply it here to an older piece.

I know the movies are centered on Iron Man but I hope Cap will have his fair share of the spotlight soon, and he deserves nothing less as the team's leader and the most respected hero in the Marvel Universe. I've always wanted to go back and redo this, but I told myself to wait up until I learned what I needed to make this the piece I wanted to be, and today I'm glad I finally managed to finish it.
