Description Sorry for the high compression of this picter, but a higher quality pic would took ages to download..

this is a tutorial showing how to paint on the computer. I've been asked a lot how I'm doing this or that, so I used my lady of the swan pic to explain how it was done.

It contains few tips about colours and creative use of references. It also contains few close-up's at the bottom.

Mind 2 things:

1. This is a PAINTING tutorial and tips picture. I might add drawing and colouring tutorial later.
2. This is also the way how I'm painting. It doesn't mean it's obligatory to everyone, okay?

and also - FULL VIEW if you wan't to read it. And it has some tips written there so looking at the small pics won't help you at all

hope some of you will find it useful..

This is amazing. Thank you for taking the time to create this. I'm not sure if I am advanced enough to attempt this. I'm more or less in the very beginner stages of drawing actually, But I really get a great insight into the process of how beautiful digital work is done, such as this !

Thank you

read the tutorial maybe? it's all there. Although it's an old one i still use the same - standard, hard edged photoshop brush.

Thank you for your superb tutorials, they really help. I mainly do pencil drawings but want to try digital art, but wasn't sure where to start, so these are great.

great way for designers, and fast results

but

to be honest... this is bad way to learn how to draw and paint
just copy objects and put together

err, I don't really say your point, where do i write anything about copying objects and putting them together? i think you must've read another tutorial..

just one question... what program do you use?
could you please answer....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vinegar In reply to RedVamp [2007-06-14 18:30:13 +0000 UTC]

it's been said in the tutorial..

anyway, for this old painting here i used opencanvas. but i also stated very clearly the method is the same in all other programs, and all the tips work both in traditional and digital media.

right now i use photoshop 7 and painter 7 most often.

Hey there! That was really a useful tutorial. But I got a question to ask, if you don't mind answering them. Do you normally pick the colours and create your own patlette, or do you pick the colour from those reference pictures, but modify them so they don't look photo-manipulated? Thanks alot for creating this tutorial and answering my questions, that's a +Fav definitely!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vinegar In reply to stayclearawake [2006-10-15 15:53:03 +0000 UTC]

thanks i never pick up colors from a reference to paint with them. sometimes i check them with eyedropper just to see how it works (you know, sometimes some colors mixed with others look completely different).. but i never follow the reference so closely, it's more for general shape and shadows.. so i come up with my own colors in general

surrealgreen [2006-10-04 14:41:04 +0000 UTC]

Very nice, thank you. I often have a hard time coming up with a complete composition, so your method of looking at several reference pics is very helpful. I also find that my pictures often don't combine well--the different elements don't mesh. So your emphasis on correct color combinations is very helpful--I'll have to try again soon!

Um...
3) znasz program Shi Animated z oekaki, prawda?
