This drawing took me forever! I don't think I've ever taken as much time as I did on this one, excluding the "special fur" drawings.Now, those took ages! D: All those brushstrokes...
Anyways, this is my entry for the Spring Showers contest at #pokemon-canine-club . I chose to do Absol, well... Because it's the "Disaster Pokemon" and I thought it's reaction would be quite... foreboding or something.
Especially since it comes right before hurricane/tornado season.
I'm quite pleased with it.
That is the most time I think I've ever spent on fur drawn this way. Plus I tried not outlining the background, and just outlining Absol, and I think it looks pretty good. --

This is outstanding!
First lets start with the backround. The gray in the middle-backround is a very nice shade for an oncoming storm, as it looks like rain, or 'disaster' will be coming. The clouds look fluffy and the shading on them is marvelous. The lightning also looks, well, just like lightning. The highlights on the clouds are very well done. (I have a hard time with lightning 
The rocks also seem to be in good perspective, and you did another fine job with the shading.
The Absol itself leaves me speechless. It's essence is enough to bring a shiver down my spine. The way it stares at you, you know it would be the Disaster pokemon, and you should run as quick as you could.
The way you twirled the leaves around the pokemon just adds to the cautious and dangerous atmosphere of the entire picture.
I can hear in my head the wind howling and the thunder clapping in the distance as the Absol stares into you, warning you.
This is an amazing piece, bravo!

I've noticed that no one really seems to leave detailed comments, and don't spend enough time really looking at the picture before faving or commenting.
I've been on DA for a while, and in the past no one really commented on my work. Then I myself recieved a detailed comment from a deviant I had never seen before, and it made me truly joyful ^^
So I'm following in my new idol's footsteps to really think about the picture before posting my comment ^^
As for a critique:
Nothing really stands out to much in this picture that I would think about changing. Only a couple things: The rocks seem to stop abrubtly when they reach the sky. You could try to add more bumps or pebbles near the top to make it seem more like a cliff/mountain.
The other thing is so small that's its barley noticable, but I thought I would point it out.
On the crest on Absol's head, there's a green highlight from the leaves. That really doesn't need to be there, since leaves don't give off that much light. If you notice, when you take a leaf to your hand, it does leave a greenish reflection, but only if it's right up against your hand, not that far away.

I'd like to think I'm about halfway there when it comes to leaving a really detailed comment, but sometimes it depends on my mood, and how much I can truly say, or think to say.
Well, your wonderful comment has left me feeling very accomplished, XD and I thank you for that. ^^ Perhaps I shall start slowly writing more detailed comments, and start really looking at a deviation. Thank you. ^^
Actually, I think I was going more for a flat, rocky surface rather than a mountain...
And about the green accent, I knew it wouldn't normally give such a green reflection from so far away, but I was trying out something that I saw in a tutorial. I think I shall keep practicing at it until my drawings look more natural.

I completley agree with you. It is challenging to think of what to say to really express what you feel about a picture ^^
But when it's such an amazing work like this, the thoughts came quite easily

I've seen all of the new ones so far. I like most of them, but I don't really like Zoroark or Mijumaru [but then he kind of grew on me after seeing this one pic...]
