I remember
those rubber soles i knew so well

more feet
yelling, arguing
the feet move around, wavering back and forth
confused, I bark, howl, anything to get the attention back to me

my master's feet seem to be fighting to hold his position
but he cannot hold his own against his tormentor
like he's on a leash
so he trudges on
but
he looks back
but is pushed along even more
now normally i would leave by now
but after i saw him look back at me that one time
i knew i couldn't leave
so i waited
and waited
and waited

This is cute...
but makes me feel sad and guilty all at once.
I had my dog since I was five, and he had to be put down last March because of throat cancer. The vets told us he wouldn't survive the surgery to remove the cyst so the best we could do was make him comfortable and take him to be put down when he started to get worse. I said I loved him and gave him a hug/kiss everyday before I left the house. The one day I forgot because I was running late for work was the day he passed and I'll never forgive myself for not being the one beside him when he went or at least remembering my promise and telling him I loved him. I hope he knew, wherever he is now; I hope he knows he was my best friend, my family, my pillow, my shoulder to cry on, my personal vacuum cleaner, my discreet trash barrel when I didn't want my dinner, my other player in the game of tag, my explorer on the trails in the woods. ._.

Yeah, I really miss him. Can't believe he's been gone for almost two years now. I knew he'd die someday...but even if he was seventeen it just never set in until I got that phone call from my mother saying they just couldn't wait any longer to send him on his way.

It's something my dog did for awhile when he had to put down her brother. She made a huge pile of rocks in the shade where they used to sit together and would sit next to it. D'; But now we got a puppy, so she seems a little happier to have company..
