Through like 500 pictures of just opening the shutter for a few seconds, I got two or three good pictures of the lightning, and this was one of my favourites.Second picture: [link]

I sat and held the shutter open on my camera for generally about 3 seconds at a time and hoped lightning would strike where I was pointing the camera

Very nice lightning photo. You caught some great color and flash channel. Lightning photography can be a tricky thing, but you're started, so hey, now you just gotta keep practicing. At least you have the priveledge of shooting digital SLR, I'm still shooting it on 35mm, lol, it can be tough. But it's still fun to go get the film developed, it's like christmas all over again. Keep up the great work

Lol, I guess I had to be quick on the learning curve shooting film, because I can't afford only 3 good ones out of 500. If you'd ever like some recommendations or tips, I'd be happy to try to help you out a bit. I'm gonna buy a 20D soon, so that I can actually work with digital, I'm excited. The Christmas feeling is definately interesting, sometimes you're so happy, or it can be a major let down, lol.

You just have to love lightnings, especially at nights, when they just lit everything up, and then you just wait for the big fat BANG, and then just silence or possibly rain again, waiting for the next one...
Tried take some pics of lightnings before too, but I was waay to slow (=
Anyway, this one is amazing, you'd have to be really patient to get a pic like this, great work.
