Description This is a photo of an immature male Goshawk Hawk taken at the Italian Renaissance Fair in Hialeah, Florida.

This is not a tame Goshawk, but was captured in the wild as a baby by a Master Falconer and will be kept for 2 years, then will be released back into the wild.

Goshawks do not hunt in open fields, but live and hunt in forests, and because of this their numbers are declining...

Thank you very much!

I was actually pretty nervous taking photos of the Goshawk and Redtail since there were a lot of other people, including much more serious photographers, as well as the Goshawk did not like the attention and at one point wanted to peck out my eyes...

Thank you very much Ciril I was really happy with the way the Goshawk photos came out because I was competing for good positioning with other people who wanted to take photos as well, or just to see the hawk...

Here is what I used...
Camera: D100
Lense: 24-85mm f-3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor
Aperature: 4.5
Exposure: 1/250 sec.
Focal Length: 85 mm
Metering: Pattern
Exposure: Aperature Priority

I know that feeling when you take something good or find new angles of views....that others only tried to...

thanks for info!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vividlilac In reply to Ciril [2004-04-09 00:01:14 +0000 UTC]

..and sometimes you are forced to come up with new angles/views because other people won't get out of your way to let you have better/easier ones

... no problem I would use the regular 'save as' in PS to keep the exif info, but I get better compression and quality from the 'save for web'...

Ya they are! I was totally shocked the first time I saw him without his hood.. with his hood he looked so small and meak, and hardly anyone paid any attention to him.. but once the Falconer took off the hood people went crazy and crowded around to see him!

Beautiful bird and a very good capture of it's beauty, too! Great detail and I love the bird's "look". Scopin' prey, even in the falconer's grasp. Very cool!!!!

vividlilac In reply to swashbuckler [2004-04-07 13:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! The Falconer had moved and raised him up so that we could get some photos of him against the sky instead of the horse stable, but when everyone saw how cool his eyes were they swarmed in for photos and I could not get the sky shot, but the tree is much better than the stable!

Yes, it is very sad.. for the last few years many conservationist organizations have been working hard to try to get the Cooper's enlisted on the Endangered Species list, but well... hopefully they will succeed soon before the Cooper's numbers are too low...

I would love to see that show! I have read about how their bodies have adapted to living in the forests and how they are able to move so easily through the trees to hunt for their prey... incredible birds!

Beautiful, beautiful bird.. in 7th grade, my science teacher had a Goshawk he brought in, but it was way more grey than this one.. then again, that was a mature female, so. But yes, Stunning shot!

Thank you ...Yes they are! The immature Goshawks have brown feathers, and the mature ones have grey or bluish/grey freathers..
