Description Wow, I actually finished this costume. An Ordo Malleus Inquisitor from the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000. Undershirt, hoopskirt, corset, overskirt, cloak, props, belt and accessories... It was a ton of work to make, but totally worth it, even if it was a bit warm to wear in California in May. The con I was at was Fanime 2008, so if you were there, say so!

These pictures were taken by my amazing mother, who also helped me figure out how to turn my concept sketches into a reality. The cat in the lower left picture is my old lady cat, Owl, who decided to make a surprise appearance during the shoot.

Next year, I want to do a Sister of Battle.

Please tell me how you made your little Inquisition symbol/ accessory. I am currently working on 4 Inquisitor cosplays (one from each main ordo and a generic one) and this damn thing has been a pain in my ass to make. Any suggestions?

I made my out of foamcore. I printed out a symbol in the size I wanted as a template. The only problem with foamcore is the edges get messy, but there are wood fillers that could work on that problem. After it's cut out, I pencilled in the design and painted over it in acrylics. I hope this helps!

First off, that is a wonderful costume. And second off, fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu. *sawbs* My boyfriend wants me to dress up as Inqisitor Amberly for SDCC 2011 cuz of the movie that is coming out. Any helpful hints before I cry myself to sleep? ;A;

Thanks! Do you know whether you want to do pretty Amberly, like in the blues dress you first meet her in, or battle-ready Amberly?

Battle ready. But I am not really sure if I can do armor. I mean, I am pretty handy when it comes to making things out of thin air, but I am not exactly the most patient of sorts;;

Armor comes in a variety of forms. If you're thinking power armor, you should probably check out [link] Obscurus Crusade, the 40K cosplay boards. There are several people who have made Sister of Battle armor, and at least one person working on a casual Amberly Vail outfit. They can help you out with technique and materials. Some materials are better for the impatient than others . I don't like waiting, so I tend to avoid things that take a long time to harden or dry.

If I can't do something I know a lady who can for me. I also like to be a bit of the perfectionist. However, I know that I am also going to have to make some weapons for myself and my guy. Maybe for one of our friends. But yeah, thanks this will help out a lot. 8D

I steal my 40K designs from the sourcebooks. A piece here, a piece there, add in your favorite historical period, and voila! Inquisitor costume. Even if all you end up with are sketches, it's fun.

Oh, no, I meant I'm bad at creating real life versions. I already know most of his outfit. In his background, while he was an acolyte, his master was slain by a traitor using the power of chaos. So now he has a coat and some light custom armor shaped from his old master's power armor. 8^D

You won't learn anything unless you try! We all start somewhere. Look through my gallery for me really old version of my inquistor costume: it's cobbled together, too short, kinda silly looking, etc.

There are plenty of great how to sew tutorials online, and if you want 40K specific stuff, check out Obscurus Crusade [link] the 40K cosplay board that I helped start. It's got plenty of people who can get you started and show you how to make things.

Sweet, thanks for the link. I was more concerned with armor crafting, though. Do you guys use plastics or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vividwings In reply to OrdonCrane [2010-07-27 00:55:44 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the look you want and how much time/money you have. I generally use plastic, others use fiberglass, others use foam of various kinds. If you know what sort of armor you want and how much you want of it, you can narrow down your materials. SM style armor is hard because it has to look very thick, while something like Eisenhorn's shoulder guards can be made out of thin plastic.

vividwings In reply to Ravenkeeper [2010-01-14 04:14:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I would have liked a better location, too, but the area around my house is suburbs, suburbs, trees, and a couple parks. The West Coast doesn't have too many awesome gothic buildings.

Ravenkeeper In reply to vividwings [2010-01-14 19:50:57 +0000 UTC]

fair enough ^^ Danish capital has churches of the gothic variaty aplenty along with the odd industrial quarter, that would do well for a inquisitor backdrop
(should do some stock photo one of these days *musing aloud*)

That's what my friends say, but seriously, when will I ever need to know all eighteen primarchs? XD

jboweruk In reply to vividwings [2009-12-07 08:56:38 +0000 UTC]

All 18? Okay so who are the 2 missing ones, and as some speculate, were they ladies?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vividwings In reply to jboweruk [2009-12-07 21:42:19 +0000 UTC]

The two missing ones were numbers two and eleven. Beyond that, we don't know. They were intentionally left blank to allow improvisation on the part of the players.

Personally, I'm divided on the gender issue- on one hand, female primarchs would be awesome. On the other hand, the Emperor was very clear that Space Marines, and by extension the primarchs that lead them, were there to serve humanity. Space Marines are made from humans, so they have purely selfish reason to protect at least some of them to maintain a population to draw from. If there were female primarchs, it is plausible that the primarchs could become a self-perpetuating race wholly separate from humanity, which the Emperor would not intend.

if you make a Sister of Battle Costume, you will be my godess! ive been wondering how to make one, but i dont have a model to make it for so if feels kinda like a waste.

vividwings In reply to Nordic-Dragon [2008-12-28 09:57:03 +0000 UTC]

I will do my best to meet your expectations. As for models, find some random female friend/sister/girl in the school anime club, if you're still in school, and get them to wear it. Most geeks like cosplaying, and having someone else do the work is great.
