Description
This is for day 3 of the artist Training grounds on EqD. The prompt was Pony at their peak...so here is pinkie at the peak of a cake? Kind of...sort or...not at all...related?Anyway I had a total blast with this, choosing a very graphical style similar to my Trixie/Twi piece. I learned from my mistakes there and I REALLY like how this came out. Also I like ridiculously bright colors!

the funny thing is, i just recently had a role-play convo with some1, and they offered me a cake... I asked if pinkie was gonna pop out, and he asked 'what if i said 'yes'?'
I responded that i wanted the cake ^.^
I mean, who in their right mind can resist a cake knowing Pinkie Pie is gonna jump out and yell 'SURPRISE!!!'?

"Oh my this is just delicious!" -M. Bison, Street Fighter. Now onto the comment. I really enjoyed this one, its just so perky, so candy filled, so pinkie. The glazing on the icing makis it all the better, and the color choices are awesome. Gotta love the extression of pinkies face. The only advice i have is get something this awesome done sooner so that its more on the front pages. Cause last page doesnt suit this kind of skill.

Shiny Eyes are so much fuuuun. And yeah...I love that cake too. Except all while painting it all I could think about was cupcakes...and like how all of a sudden that cake became less and less fun. Thank you!

This looks great! Her eyes are mesmerizing, i can't get enough of them. Which program did you use to color it?

I used Paint Tool Sai. I usually use Photoshop but when I do pieces with heavy line art or want to do something a little more cel shaded style, I use sai. Thank you! I used a couple tutorials for the eyes, and then embellished a bit haha.

It is fully painted -- And it is not vectorized. I drew the line art by hand in Sai. And then colored from there. It's easy to color if you have strong line art, you can use the magic wand tool and then select areas and just fill away! And yes...I love colors haha. Thank you so much!

Well, then you must've had a lot of practice in lining already. I could perhaps pull this off with vectors (after hours of tweaking) but drawing this by hand? Gosh, I need to get better, and I need it RIGHT NOW (insert Applebloom voice) xD
Oh well, just another technique added to the "to master" list
You tweak the Wand's tolerance value in order to get the right selections? Else you'd get one-pixel white borders everywhere as far as my and my friends' experience goes.

Well Sai allows you to turn on smoothing to make lining slightly easier, but I don't use it cause I don't like the lines it produces as much. The key to smooth lines is just quick practiced motions. Keep your spare hand on undo and just keep drawing a single line and undoing it until it looks right. Then do the next one and so on.After a while you can speed up the process cause of practice and all that. And yes -- Sai has a selection menu and under that it says Increment(1). I usually press that twice or 3 times when expands your selction 2 or 3 pixels. with thick lines like this it will stick the colors under the line and get rid of the messy icky pixel border. XD

A patience job, never was good at that (everything needs to go fast with me, I blame teachers who threw me into speedpainting
