I guess you could be right, but u could be wrong as well, no one has ever said the comics are cannon. But they are the only ones to show star swirl in the flesh. Lazy show writers

This is amazing. Ironically, I'm currently writing a fan fiction concerning the amulet, but Starswirl instead sought to destroy it.

This picture, along with this one, [link] inspired me to write a little something something. Hope you don't mind.
By the way, this isn't about an alicorn amulet.
βMy entire life... Iβve searched and searched. For what, I donβt know, but I do know that it is... amazing.
Whatever Iβm searching for, I know it can do harm when in possession of an evil being, like a sword.
Whatever Iβm searching for, I know it can protect from harm when raised against overwhelming power, like a shield.
However, it is not an item; a physical wealth. It is not magic either; a spell or incantation. Whatever it is... words cannot describe it. It is not a feeling, no, it is more than that.
It once resided in me... but in my old age, it somehow slipped out under my raspy breath, and no matter how much I plea and beg and cough, it wonβt return.
This... thing... that Iβve searched for; the euphoria that exceeds all happiness, the hurt that surpasses all pain; the tool of enlightenment, the weapon of crippling; it is beyond my sight now.
Celestia... Luna... you will live to be millenia old... so, please, continue this search. I am so very sorry that I have failed you again.
As you progress in time, all I ask of you is to search, and to remember. Remember me; the little troublesome colt with an appetite for learning, the one that nearly killed hundreds with a magical outburst, the one that was trained to control it, and the one now in charge of magical research... Remember my apprentice, the sassy mare with a never-ending hope for pony kind, the one that nearly killed me with a magical outburst, the one I took under my wing, the one now in charge of social relations... And, of course, remember Him.
Make this world one He would be proud of.
Good luck, and possibly farewell. My current studies may prove to be fatal. If so... Iβm sorry I couldn't spend just one more day with you two.
As always... your friend/mentor/uncle, Starswirl.β
Also, great work! I love your art!

Well this piece is certainly both well-written and well drawn.
You both did great. (I'm assuming the commissioner had the story, and you drew/colored it in.)

My own theory is that Celestia made it. This would have been during the founding of Equestria, there was much to do and sisters couldn't be everywhere at once. Celestia imbued a number amulets with her own magic. Essentially making any pony who wore one an alicorn. The amulets weren't intrinsically evil, their power was just to much for ponies to handle. In the end she gathered them up and destroyed them but one slipped by. It would surface every century or two and cause trouble but would always be lost before Celestia could get her hooves on it.

Nice, although my theory is that another wizard or necromancer might create that. After all, his own magic on it's own is strong, but with the amulet, it amplifies his power. To the others who wear it, it'll corrupt the soul when the creator died and also live inside the amulet itself.

Shame it's anonymous, because it's awesome, and also something I've been thinking of for a while. It wouldn't be implausible for Star Swirl to have crafted the amulet, given his reputation for magical power and his failure to find the true magic of friendship.
The distortion of the background here is just perfect, very fitting for what the description mentions. The detail of said background is wonderful, particularly on those books, that quill and the window with its moonlight-outlined frame and that cobweb. The lighting work here is superb, I daresay, particularly with the two light sources, and red and blue work together impressively well here. They also serve another good purpose of making Star Swirl look discoloured, with an unidentifiable true coat and hair colour in this lighting and the only clarity being his white beard. The texture of his furred face is amazing (the same goes for the visible leg and the shiny hoof, too), and the mane and hair hang down in a rather natural way here. Love how the hat and the cape link up in terms of position, looks great, and you managed to reflect the texture of the cloth remarkably well. Bonus points for those bells, particularly the one on the hat tip, as it reflects both light sources and looks great in its detail. The expression is perfectly fitting for what is present in the description. 's a sweet staff here, too, you managed to make it look properly wooden. Finally, the depiction of magic here is very impressive; his horn almost looks like a glass tube filled with it, or as if it's been heated up to red; the gracefully flowing lines of magic are beautifully rendered, and around the amulet itself they look properly vile and vicious, with that dimmer secondary glow making them look like jagged blades amid flowing blood.
I daresay that this is the most impressive piece of yours yet, at least to me. You're improving even more. Well done!

Thank you for your kind words.
This is a perfect example of a 'push me' commission. The commissioner offered me much too much money for the concept, so I pushed myself in terms of composition, content, contrast, and rendering.
