Description Excuse the non EGL dress other than the sleeve... ^^"

I bought a copy of one of the Gothic and Lolita Bible magazines yesterday, and felt inspired to make this armwarmer ^_^

I will take some better pictures later and move this to scraps but I was just so excited to show you it!

I will make another one after school today and do some proper modelling pictures with them on.

Unfortunately I made it a little too tight, but I am just experimenting after all. I love it, yay!

Trim is just lace, ribbon and the skull finish was from an old pair of shoelaces I had hanging around and decided to do something with.

Started it at 10:30pm.... started sewing at 11pm and giggled into the night until 1am to make this, but so worth it!

WOW! So kawaii! I must make a point of making some of these. I was going to join a sewing club, I've had a bit of practice with sewing and machines, etc.
My mum got a new sewing machine for christmas, so it looks like I'm in luck, (to make these XD).
These are soo cool btw. I love them.

Also, where do you get this Gothis and Lolita Bible from?

You should definitely take up sewing stuff like this and join a club, it is the best

I got a copy of the Gothic/Lolita Bible from a shop in London called Forbidden Planet for £12.50 (however this was when it was on offer! It is usually more expensive!), I don't know if you know it/have them where you are but they sell all sorts of strange and odd things ^_^ things from old vintage comics, manga, art books, sci-fi things... they are great!

I've not had time to decipher any of the patterns in the back yet though! They are all in Japanese ^_^"... in fact the whole magazine is in Japanese, but the pictures are just so pretty *_*...

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, I'm finding out the information for the club, so I can join very soon me hopes. X3

Also, I happen to have just moved from Kent in England, and went to London quite often, so it looks like that was a bit of a dissapointment. >_<
But I'll be coming back to England this summer, so I'll try and have a look around there if I haven't already found it here.

Of course, there are lots of "different" stores over here in Canada, they're really into the Cultural differences thing. Maybe I'll have a look around in China Town.

Well, thank you for your help, (this is a long message XD sorry), and keep up the good work.

me=love your work :3

Aw man, that must be annoying >.< yeh, try China Town, it might be there.

If you're back in England and haven't found it yet, erm, here are some directions: Tottenham Court Road station on the Central Line, it is on Shaftesbury Avenue which is about 7 minutes walk :\ but you should get a map if you're going because my directions are **** lol xD

Eh, good luck in your hunt for it I'm glad you like my work no, thank you for your appreciation

Take care ^_^

Thank you very much yes, I make them all, I've really gotten into sewing again recently.

By the way, I love your work it's got a really interesting edge to it that looks different to a lot of other work I've seen.

Oh thank you.

So how long does it take you to make something like this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vixi-Vampiress In reply to ArmenDangerous [2007-11-21 22:48:32 +0000 UTC]

Of course it varies according to the size of the piece, the degree of decoration and so on...

This particular one though, took me about slightly over 2 hours in total, if you are not including the messing about with lace time and the fixing the broken sewing machine time...!

...and of course, entangling the cat from the cotton reel time... v___v!

Oo, incidentally, how is your portfolio going? Any luck? I'm about to book into a life drawing class again for the sake of mine.

thedarkenedlight In reply to Vixi-Vampiress [2007-11-12 15:54:41 +0000 UTC]

It's been going slowly, been held up by a lot of other things in life so it hasn't progressed much at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vixi-Vampiress In reply to thedarkenedlight [2007-11-12 17:13:46 +0000 UTC]

I'll respond to both comments here for easiness...

I use a sewing machine, a Brother PS-35 to be exact, and add the details by hand, such as buttons or ribbons. I don't have an overlocker (serging machine? :\) so I just use a zigzag stitch to stop the edges from fraying and lock them in place.

About your portfolio, well, same here really I've had a hellish amount of work and other things, so this life drawing class will pretty much be the first step towards it, in terms of large scale work. Congratulations on graduating by the way!

thedarkenedlight In reply to Vixi-Vampiress [2007-11-12 17:21:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I don't have access to a sewing machine atm, do you think it'd be difficult hand sewing something like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vixi-Vampiress In reply to thedarkenedlight [2007-11-12 18:11:16 +0000 UTC]

It would take a lot longer, that is for sure... and that took me rather a long time *with* a sewing machine, so I'm not sure how long it would take by hand. I would maybe try something a little smaller first to see how you go with sewing times and stuff. One other thing to note is that if you hand sew, it will not be as strong, and also it is more likely to fray

Vixi-Vampiress In reply to Vixi-Vampiress [2007-11-14 19:10:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, it'll be worth it if you get on with it maybe get one from Ebay, that way it'll be waaaay cheaper and if you don't like it after all, you won't have lost too much money on it. Mine's quite old I think, but I mean... *shrugs* it still works!

thedarkenedlight In reply to Vixi-Vampiress [2007-11-14 09:27:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I'll look into it.. maybe I should look into getting a sewing machine.

I've just graduated from highschool, so I should have a bit more free time.

Question though, do you use a sewing machine or hand sew?
