A draft/work in progress for the CGSociety's "Dreamscape " contest. Created with Mandelbulb 3D and Photoshop CS3.EDIT: Wow, my first Daily Deviation! Thank you very much to the suggester -- it's much appreciated. To think that I had initially tossed this image into "scraps"...
EDIT2: Thanks to all who are commenting. I'm really enjoying all the associations and interpretations people are having!
EDIT3: For the heck of it, I put this image through Google's "Deep Dream" algorithm. Here's the result .

Everytime i stare into this picture, i can't help put feel shivers ring down my very spine. The fact that it looks like a parasitic lampray that has teethed skin which tears into the flesh of a living being, leaving bloody reminders, makes it all the more terrifying. Very few pictures have been able to strike this much fear into me. Great work!

Dreamscape indeed! Very surreal and captivating. It makes me kind of uncomfortable, like it's right in my face, and about to devour my head or something.

This looks awesome, it reminds me of one of those horrific microscopic animals. They looks so terrifying when the details are visible.

A few people have mentioned the similarity to scanning electron micrographs or whatnot. I know what you mean -- some critters were not meant to be enlarged!

Lol that's for sure, I remember being horrified by an enlarged maggot. I can't believe how monstrous they can look. I'm so glad that there's not enough oxygen on the planet for them to be big lol.

Nope. It is a horrific creature that has no jaw, therfore it's teeth 'cave in' to the center of the head.
