It's a device in Star Wars(though you don't see them in the movies, mainly they're in books and games) that projects a hologram through which Sith can use it to learn about the Force and lightsabers and whatnot. It's little more than an ancient holographic encyclopedia of Sith teachings, which can only be used by Sith.
