Description Though visitors to the beach are few and far between, they come with no shortage of ideas for how to shape the coastline in their image. When the setting sun heralds their departure, she arrives in their stead and observes the rituals of the living with wonder, steadying sandcastle walls as they start to crumble and tracing stark, calculated lines in the sand. They rearrange the sticks and rocks and shells into messages she cannot parse - not anymore - and she pores over them as if they were an impassioned poem. It's a small delight on such a quiet shore.

There comes a time when the tide rolls in and the images are swept away, wind currents topple shelters and bury whatever is left behind. The turbulent nature of the beach is such that a human's mark is effervescent; even shriveled plastics will sink beneath the sand. She knows better than to hold grief for their creations; they must be allowed to fall. She's seen how from the wreckage births new opportunity for the next visitor to her strand. But every once in a while, she'll use her influence to reclaim their work, finish their job, and keep it standing for just another day.

Extremely happy with how this turned out. Been comparing it to my Onerous Stone submission from about 6 years ago, and wow, I've come so far! Here's to six more years of really patchy practice culminating in a slightly deeper understanding of how to draw good. ♥
