Description This is based on a real experience I had as a waiter. This has happened many times in my life, but this one in particular stood out because I really wanted to say something, but didn't feel like I could risk starting an argument with a customer while on the job.

Sometimes there aren't any malicious intentions yet the microaggression hits. And there is something particular sucky about it being a correction. Like this mother without ever asking me just decides on my behalf that I am not just male but that everyone else has to use the pronouns she subconsciously assumed was appropriate. On top of that she says it out loud enough that people at surrounding tables might also be making mental notes about my gender which is extra sucky. I remember being on edge and dysphoric the rest of my shift.

And look I get it, it's your kid and you don't want them misgendering strangers and that is why you corrected them, but can you at least make certain you correct in the right direction, because it isn't just uncomfortable and humiliating, it also hits like a hammer into the insecurities of the person in question especially if they are trans.

But even if you are cis (Woman for the example), Imagine someone correcting someone else on your gender and calling you a man. They might as well have said to your face "I think you look like a man" it just isn't nice.
