Description
With all her attention devoted to Kovu, Vitani suddenly found herself with more time to herself. She would often spend most of it accompanying her brother in his training sessions as a sparring partner, though as time went on she found him going off on long periods all by himself. One day, she managed to spot him in one of his walks and decided to follow after him. To her astonishment, she saw him go right up to the border and disappear into the grass. The forbidden territory and he had just walked up and strolled right into it like he owned it. Though she was wary at first, she still decided to follow after him.

Immediately she felt as if she had stepped into another world. The air was much cooler and sweeter to breath in. The breeze that rarely touched the oven landscape behind her was brushing her pelt softly. The grass, sparse and coarse back home, was now plentiful and soft, gently tickling her sides and towering above her head. The ground she was so accustom to roughly piercing into her paw pads now felt so warm and soft and inviting to step in. This alien environment was so weird and foreign, yet so inviting to her.

She had barely spent a few minutes on the fertile landscape when she heard footsteps in the grass. Getting an idea, she quickly dipped behind a rock and hunkered down, ready to pounce. Her head peered over the edge, ready to focus on her intended target, only to suddenly duck down again as she registered that it wasn't her brother nearby, but instead a lioness and cub. She steadied her breathing, hope that she hadn't been spotted and that the rock and shade was enough to conceal her. Her ears twitched, picking up the sounds nearby.

"Remember when dad got too close to those water buffalo and got splashed? His entire face got covered with mud."

"How could I forgot, he was spitting out mud and still trying to look good in front of the herd. He had to jump in the watering hole just to get most of it off."

Vitani gave pause. She slowly pushed her head over the edge, still trying to keep hidden, but motivated by curiosity to watch. Sure enough, a lioness, most likely the mother, was just a few feet away with the cub in stride. The two were laughing as they recalled a funny event, unknowingly walking past her in the shade. Vitani looked puzzled as she examined their demeanor and posture. Both looked relaxed, not a single tensed muscle or hunched body between them. They did not have a scowl or mean look on their face, no scary teeth or glaring eyes, as they had been described by their mother. Instead warm eyes locked onto each other, complete with gentle expressions adorning their smiles as they casually walked beside one another in conversation.

As she watched them pass, she felt a stirring in her chest. She unconsciously pressed a paw onto her heart, feeling where her heart ached. She kept focus on them, even as they past her hiding spot. For a brief moment, she almost wished she could come out and join them, just to known what it was like to have what they had. She had no idea to describe it, but she longed to have what those two had.

Poor Vitani. Maybe one day you'll be able to have the kind of sweet relationship, maybe not with Zira, but perhaps Nala and Kiara will invite you along on their mother-daughter walks.
