Description The bot mode for Sideswipe. This one I believe is another Don Figueroa illo. I dug coloring his stuff because it was always so clean and clear in execution, as many fans of the comics know he was just plain good at drawing Transformers

I had Sideswipe as a figure at one time. I don't know what happened to him; I must have packed him away. But hopefully I'll be able to find him again.

I always liked this one. Did you just to these singles or did you do full pages too? They certainly had a similar look.

Wait a minute, YOU were the one who drew that? That's the picture that's always used for posters and stuff. Er...I think. Or a picture very similar to it.
Very nicely done though.

Thanks. I always dug this one cause it was a Lamborghini Countach, just a cool ride for a robot.

Thanks By the time I had gotten to this guy I had done prob around 100 Transformers for Dreamwave so I had my own groove and approach to doing them.

Woah. That is what I need to do. I need to draw so much that I develop a pattern to make my work more effiecent.

I can pump out the line art when inspired, but the color is so much harder. I have hardly ever used color in my life, so color theory and whatnot is somewhat foreign to me. (no formal art training, and all that jaz)

Yeah, I literally did around 200 of these for Dreamwave studios when they were working on the Transformers license. I worked on all 8 Transformers More than Meets the eye books and also 2 pages of Transformers Armada so I had pretty much gotten to the point of auto pilot with coloring then, I could do it in my sleep... in fact I saw them in my sleep O_O;;;;

It's something than can be learned, even without training of course, it just takes time to be comfortable. For coloring, say the mecha work you're doing, a great place to start looking would be military modelers books or sites on the web. They're the best place to peep out cammo patterns, weathering techniques, and color patterns. Of course real photos of military vehicles are great too but modelers tend to accuntuate the form of the models with weathering drybrush paints and that's a fantastic reference for painting your machines. Color theory is a little more involved but again, with time, you can learn. Good photography is always excellent to look at for backgrounds, landscapes, and absolutely for skies. If you have a good digital camera just go outside and photograph the sky now and then, you'll be amazed at how much color you'll see there if you were never really paying attention.

Frankly when it comes to learning I'm always within that process, learning all the time
