Description (Updated : 5/1/2016 - Pterokami re-vamp)

Species Name : Pterokamisu

Name Pronunciation : Tare-oh-caw-me-soo

Plural : Pterokami

Plural Pronunciation : Tare-oh-caw-me

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pterokami are sentient mammalian creatures that come from a planet that's true name has no coherent name in earth's languages, but it is loosely translated as "Home Sphere". Some Pterokami remain on their native planet, but many are sent as eggs or Fluffs(Young Pterokami) to different planets in an organic space pod that keeps them in a state of suspended animation. These pods have no controls and are simply shot into space in hopes that they will land on a planet where they can grow.

Not all pods survive the treacherous journey through space, but those that do plant themselves wherever they land, no matter what that location may be. Once it has rooted, the pod will transform the area around it to become a home for the young Pterokami it was sent with.

As it transforms the land, it releases the Pterokami eggs and young Pterokami from the suspended animation and begins to nourish the young and allows the eggs to hatch before nourishing them as well. Once the Fluffs reach an age where they can hunt for food, the pod releases them and unfolds itself into a breeding ground for the Pterokami.

Speech :
The native language of the Pterokami is made up of many noises, mainly squeeks and chirps, although, other noises, such as clicks are used as well. All Pterokami, whether they are born on Home Sphere or not, know this language instinctively.
However, Pterokami have the ability to learn any language that can be taught to them or that they are raised around.

Mute Pterokami may use body language, but body language may vary from Pterokami to Pterokami.

Reproduction :
Pterokami are alien creatures and their reproductive system is not entirely known.

Pretokami are sexless creatures, and despite them being able to choose their gender identity, they have no known sexes.

A Pterokami can reproduce with creatures that are not of their species, but this usually results in some form of mutation, sometimes resulting in the death of the Pterokami, usually before it hatches.
This type of breeding is also risky for the non-Pterokami partner. It is not recommended that a non-Pterokami breeds with a Pterokami.

The mysterious pods, refered to as Pteropods, are native to Home Sphere are breeding grounds for the Pterokami, but nobody is quite sure how it works, not even the Pterokami themselves.

The breeding partners are encapsulated within the pod and are released approximately three days later with an egg. The pod seems to place the breeding partners in suspended animation during the egg creation process.

It is thought that the pod somehow copies the DNA of the subjects and fuses them to create the egg.(or eggs, multiple eggs, although rare, can occur)

The egg is kept by one of the parents until it hatches.  Eggs that are abandoned by the guardian often don't survive, although, it isn't unheard of that abandoned eggs hatch and survive.

(Pteropods : Pteropod Closed  / Pteropod Open  )

Young :

Young Pretokami are referred to as Fluffs, as they tend to have a very fluffy and longer fur than adults. This sheds when they reach about six months old. Mutant Fluffs do not always have this fluffy fur. Despite shedding at six months, young Pterokami are called Fluffs until they are about a year old, when they are officially considered adults.

Fluffs may have white spots that disappear, like White Tailed Fawns, but this is not always the case.

Fluffs begin to learn basic skills at about two months and are cared for by at least on of their parents for the first six months at minimum, but are usually cared for until they reach adulthood.

Height/Length/Weight :

Pterokami are usually about 4-5 feet long, from the top of their head to the tip of their tail(Uncurled tail for the curled tail variety) as adults, although, non mutant Pterokami can reach up to 6 feet, but that's about the tallest they get without mutations.

A healthy weight for Pterokami is dependent on their size. 100-120 lbs would be a healthy weight for a 4-5 foot Pterokami.

Lifespan :

A Pterokamisu's lifespan can vary, but is usually about 100-120 years.

Locations :

Pterokami can be found living in most places.

Cities, Forests, Oceans, basically anywhere aside from outer space.

Being mammalian, they do require air, but like other ocean-dwelling mammals, they can hold their breath for incredibly long amounts of time.

If there is a colony of Pterokami living underwater, there is likely an air pocket around the location of their local pod that allows them to breath without coming to the surface.

Land-dwelling Pterokami are known to nest in trees and burrows, but may nest on land near a pod.

Mutations :

Mutations are basically anything not on this chart. Different sized/length ears or muzzles are not considered mutations in minor cases.

There have been reported cases of hybrid Pterokami, this is a Mutation.

Minor mutations include but are not limited to :
Different Muzzles
Different Ears
Tails longer than normal (Such as the Naga mutation : sta.sh/07t695256o8
Tails folded rather than straight or curled (Such as this Pterokami : fav.me/d9kq3nh
Two fingered wings of either type
Long fur anywhere other than the specified locations

Other mutations include but are not limited to :
The Steam Mutation (Picture pending)
Zombification ( #3 here : fav.me/d9k372z )
Legged Pretokami ( fav.me/d8md7bx )
What was previously called Pterokamisooze and Ptreatokamisu(previously known as Pterokamisushi)
All franchise themed Pterokami(Franchise themed Pterokami will no longer be made and the few that do exist are considered mutants)

(NOTE : Feathered wings can be drawn in different ways and variations in feathered wings will not usually be considered mutations)
(NOTE 2 : The targets on the Body Types chart are to signify where the ears and wings are respectively)
(NOTE 3 : I'm aware that the head drawings in the Ear Types section look wonky)
(NOTE 4 : Pterokami are NOT required to have ANY long fur, meaning the hair like tufts aren't required on normal ones)

Vulpotato In reply to Thunderclan-Cat [2015-02-08 19:12:35 +0000 UTC]

It's color coded,
the yellow one on the bottom is nearly completely ooze, whereas, the blue one, is a wing, but ooze comes out the bottom.
