Description This is in the end a piece of jewellery. But here you'll find highfired porcelain, stone cutting and polishig, shell cutting and polishing, blacksmith techniques, welding, jewellery stone mounting, polishing, etc.

Materials:
Garnet (on the lock piece)
Phosphatic porcelain with cobalt oxyde glaze inlay - 1200Β°C (the back-mounted piece)
Seashell - Black Sea
14k gold

Size: ΓΈ=4cm

The sliced seashell is a complex inner structure and this natural architecture has to be protected in a case of metal and ceramic. This is a frozen moment of the elements like a slice of the nature's mineral world. The garnet was crystalized in the planet's fire, the porcelain is sand, clay and oxydes reshaped by extreme fire while the minerals structured in the seashell shape by a living organism are a solid print of the life's forcelines. All these brought together and rearranged through the gold's embrace speak of life, earth, fire, water and air. inside.

A long time ago. I wouldn't have it on display here on dA if it wasn't from the past.

Anyway, nobody said anything about selling 'n stuff. This is not advertising to sell things.

I think this piece is so beautiful - something I would like to hold and treasure. The fragility of the found object cupped in gold only highlights its precious quality. I also very impressed you managed to set that porcelain like a stone! Well done xx

at first glance I thought this piece was a tribute to the female genitalia, and a beautiful one at that. I must say I was a tad bit disapointed when I noticed that was not the case...
very well done!

vulpul In reply to Cherrypip [2006-02-22 22:30:23 +0000 UTC]

yup. One could think about it that way.. although it's rather a more mineral-organic thing than a wet, tight, hot... what were we talking about?? Oh.. well it's just going in the zone of architectural studies of structures. I used sections and and different materials structured in such way that the whole concept could come alive and take shape, capturing the concept of inner imprint of life and the universal elements.

No, I use firefox, I just saw that the whole picture looked kinda pixelated, and I remembered another picture that had hidden text in it like that.

That is so awsome, I would really love to have it, I love shells and the whole cutting one open is really awsome, then you get to admire the inner beauty as well. I was amazed how the shell is outlined in gold, looks simply stunning!

I would be a lot more impressed if you made that shell with your own two hands.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vulpul In reply to Glowing-Jesus [2005-09-26 04:53:24 +0000 UTC]

Nobody's perfect! And besides... there are some things in nature that humans just can't do. The shell's structure and texture is amazing in it's details! I tried to expose some of that by making a section through it and polished it. (that I did with only one hand by the way so it's still not by my own TWO hands )

Thanks!!

vulpul In reply to oibyrd [2005-09-26 04:57:44 +0000 UTC]

no. until 2004 I used to sell objects in art galleries, but not anymore. I work bigger objects now specificaly designed for their future place. So this is kinda request only work.

(Peple have asked this before.. try to browse into the eralier comments I replied several times..)

I really like how well the seashell is blended into the piece, it adds a very interesting "personality" to it.
