Description Fallout miniatures! A while back I came up with a roleplaying-setting for Fallout that takes place in the remains of Idaho (where I live and all). I then became totally enamored with the setting, and have recently decided to start a wargaming campaign with the setting.

Before the War, a massive robotics factory was nearing completion in Idaho, filled with machinery and parts. Occasional raiders would sometimes take the juiciest bits, but recently the factory has started buzzing again, all the robots coming back online and the machines pumping out more. The apparent leader of the factory is an enigmatic robot named Robo Manfat (a play off of the factory's broken sign, which once read "RobCo Manufacturing Center"), a custom robot with a cheery personality and efficient use of deadly force. He's often followed by a young boy known only as The Kid, who's rumored to be the real brains behind the Robo Manfat Center.

These guys were particularly fun. Even beyond Fallout robots being fun to draw (and customize, as is the case here), the story behind The Kid and Robo Manfat is one I hold dear to my heart.

Fallout in Idaho sounds interesting. I live pretty near to Idaho, and my family has stopped in Wallace a few times on road trips. I’d love to see a game set there someday.

I did an embarrassing amount of research on Idaho's history to come up with ideas for the Spud Wasteland (thus named for the Spudplant, a mutated potato flower covered in thorns with nearly inedible tubers that's spread all across the wastes--it's Idaho, ya need to throw in potatoes). Apparently Idaho actually has some uranium deposits throughout, and according to one of the players from my RPG group Crates of the Moon is uniquely resistant to exterior radiation. As well, there was a bandit by the name of Henry Plummer who operated in parts of the Idaho Territory back before it shrank, who got into some rather exciting antics and even got elected sheriff to hunt his own gang.

Combining Idaho's history into a Fallout setting is incredibly fun; it's become a passion project for me, and I almost wish I could make a Fallout game set there. For now, tabletop gaming will have to suffice.

Wow. That is a lot of research. I didn’t know Idaho had uranium. Sounds like it was a lot of fun.
