She deserves the punishment! Falling in love with Hojo is well...icky, but if she's in love, she's in love and not much can be done about that. And otherwise we wouldn't have Sephiroth.

Well, I always preferred to think of Seph as being Vinnie's son. If not naturally, then maybe Hojo-the-Dumb wanted to enhance the future baby (Seph) as much as possible and thus inserted Vinnie's genes too in all this soup, thinking of his fighting skills and reflexes as a Turk.
Then Vinnie's genes, being stronger, overcame his own and... the rest was history. Probably a sheer imposibility in real life, but who the heck mentioned anything about real life here??
