I had this in mind to be a Valentine's day gift to myself, but I didn't finish until now TwT. Oh well, better late than never.So happy v-day to me and to everyone! Who needs a significant other when you can have Inukashi, Nezumi, and Shion in butler suits?
EDIT: To clarify, I know that Inukashi is a girl. But it was always implied, not explicit, and she's not treated any differently anyways, so she's an honorary boy in my books. Hence the all-encompassing "boys" in the title :]

About Inukashi... I've heard so many people talk about how they're not really sure she IS a girl before... I'm just curies why and how it's not clear... Not that it really matters that much

Well I can see why people have doubts, since it was never said explicitly. Shion never said like, "Hey Inukashi, I know you're a girl." Even if he was about to, he never did. He could just as well have been about to say, "Hey Inukashi, your arms/shoulders feel very womanly for a guy such as yourself."

You can say that about anyone else. No body said Shion was a boy... Nobody says Nezumi has ponytail it shows ^-^

It's more like for any character, we know their gender based on their looks, relationships, interactions with other people, and how their own self view. For example, we know Shion is a boy because he is Karan's son. Other than the description of the manga stating that Nezumi is a boy, we know from his look, his actions, etc. These are all hints the author/artist uses to build the character. The thing with Inukashi is that she has been interacted with as a boy, she has a pretty androgynous look, and none of her actions really say otherwise about her gender. The author built her up to be viewed as a boy, until Shion gives us a hint. That's why I think more skeptical people would be unsure, at least until something clearer is seen.

inukashi is a girl. for most of the anime she is refered to as "he" untill near the end when she is almost like molested by the no.6 official, then sion is like "your a..." nezumi/ riuga came in before he could finish his sentence, implieng shes a girl. it also says so on her wiki [link]

He/She has been addressed as both male and female.

It's been heavily implied that Inukashi is a girl, but if Shion is the only one that has noticed this, I don't think it would make much sense for either the reader or the characters to switch from referring to "him" as "her." Has Inukashi been referred to as female outside the novel?

I know in the manga it was done a couple of times.
For a short while after Inukashi entered, it switched between 'he' and 'she'.
Although, that can be simply an issue with the translators.

Ya, I explained it in my artist's comments after I realized people were thinking I didn't know Inukashi was a girl haha. It's my bad since I didn't explain earlier, but I've always treated her just as one of the boys ^^'

It's pretty heavily implied, and the whole thing with her taking care of the baby is a pretty clear hint to me xD
