Description Cayman Studios released the G2M version of their LegacyUV product this weekend, which meant I could finally use that and the Genesis 2 Legacies for Genesis 3 Male: Heroes product by SloshWerks , which had the Darius 6 shape, to get Darius himself all the way to G3M.

Render Studio Iray lighting, with "Render Emitter" set to "off" where appropriate, and mesh light opacity set to 0.0001 as needed. (Otherwise, when the mesh lights were where it would make sense for them to be visible in the render, you wound up with an alpha channel cutout. Weird.)

As before, tested an extreme dance pose -- Genesis 3 Male Dance Poses by RenderGuyNY from ShareCG.com -- to see how the geografts did. And as before, there's a place in the middle of the shoulder geograft that doesn't take bending up as well as it could, but it's only a very mild annoyance. There's also a place around the genital geograft where the change in textures is more obvious than with the M4 version. Depending on the pose, you can use either postwork, prop hair or conforming hair to cover the area for nude renders.

This version of Darius, for this test, also has Fitness at 100% (so gets both the definition and shape volume), some Bodybuilder Details (but NOT the shape), Tone, and the veins from the M3D Hero 7 by Male-M3Dia ; unfortunately, those don't show up very well, probably due mostly to lighting. Musculature HD flexions set to 35%. (I really wish that was an on/off morph, and not scalar, which makes no sense.) He also has Michael 7 HD details at 100% -- since Darius 6 HD has no chance of being available in G3M until and unless the new version of GenX2 appears, and even then, it would surprise me if the HD morphs can be transferred. Thanks to all of that HD morph stuff going on, he's at Render SubD 4 for everything -- body, LegacyUV geografts, dangling bits, the works.

Process for changing him was more or less the same as with Monique, with one exception as noted below.

1) Map transfer of Darius texture from his own UV to Genesis 2 Base Male. (This may or may not be nominally optional. When I switched the G2M version of Darius to Base Male UV just to see the difference, his face texture moved down a tiny bit, and his nipples moved down a bit. That's it.) Again, he transferred very well, including hands and feet. As before, did the mouth but did not transfer the eyes, since I didn't plan to use them.

2) used Beautiful Skin Iray by SickleYield to transfer him to Iray. (Again: if you're planning to use one of Cayman Studios' products, DO YOUR TEXTURE WORK FIRST. Otherwise, you have to do your work on both the main body and on the geografts, which is a pain.)

3) Save off your work as a regular materials DUF preset.

4) put a G3M figure into your workspace

5) If you plan to use the anatomical elements/genitalia/dangling bits/dingusi/whatever you call them, ATTACH THEM NOW.

6) Select the Prepare G3M preset by Cayman Studios and let it do that voodoo that they do so well.

7) The critical difference between using the G2F and G2M versions: If you are using the Anatomical Elements, USE THE TEXTURE PRESET ON THEM NOW.  It will actually look a bit weird -- the textures will be misaligned and it will -- very technically -- turn the entire body into a penis. (Oh, hush. No smart remarks from the cheap seats, here!) but the geograft actually uses the Hips/SkinHip texture, rather than the upper part of the normal G2M genital texture, so if you apply it later, things will look very very wrong.

8) Apply the main body texture preset to the main body. If you have done this at the point in the process where everything is still selected, it will replace the other textures in the right (...ish) places as needed.

9) At this point, everything will still look off. You'll need to use the "Apply G2M UV" preset from the LegacyUV product to get everything to line up properly.

10) If you have not done a map transfer on the eye textures, they'll likely look a bit strange. Replace them with whatever eyes you think will work; as far as I can tell, that's one UV area that remains the same from character to character within a generation. Darius is using Michael 7's dark brown eyes here.

And now, finally, you're done.

Unlike with Monique, I didn't feel the need to do any further tinkering. Everything matched up perfectly. Eyes are the right size and everything.

Hi vwarngler, thanks a lot for this turorial which got me mostly where I wanted: transfering darius 6 skin to a g3 base from wich I can shape the res myself ( so no use of the Darius 6 morph, honestly I still think this is one of the best black male skins around).

So I would say success about 99%, where its got off a little is the mouth region, especially the lower lip of the skin seems to go over the assigned lip suface of g3 base male. You didn't seem to have that issue, would you think it is because you used the transferred darius 6 morph? do you have a chance to quickly test how the skin applies to g3 bas male or even already have an idea how to fix that?

Thanks a lot

I took a look at my old scene. Selecting the Lip surface with the Surface Selection Tool, according to that outline, the texture of the *upper* lip extends slightly beyond the assigned lip surface of G3 Male, no matter what the morph. Using the Darius 6 Legacies shape, it doesn't show because the shape matches what the texture should be doing. When I zero out the shape and look at the texture on G3M default shape, it's the same; the lower lip is fine, but the upper lip extends beyond the technical boundary of the assigned lip surface.

I'm not sure how to fix that, apart from postwork on another copy of the texture itself. It looks like it's an issue with the surfaces of Legacy UV itself being slightly misaligned. And I have no idea why you have a completely different misaligned lip surface than I do.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks a lot for checking anyway, I guess there is some more trying around ahead of me. It's the first transfer I did so maybe I missed something in the process

Map transfer can be odd sometimes. However, since the rest of the face lines up without any issue, it doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. As long as you have all the surfaces that should be assigned to a common template grouped the way Studio has them grouped, there's not much you could do that would make any difference.

There is the option to choose the michael 6 UV for darius 6, I was thinking of saving that as material preset and follow the other steps as before, its worth testing I guess, once I have all these renders done.
