Summary: Hisoka's been feeling a lot happier since Muraki's death and the disappearance of his curse marks. He spends a lovely day with his new boyfriend before topping it off with meeting Tsubaki's new partner. Never would he have thought happy endings exist for people like them, but life is full of surprises. Tsusoka; possible Tsubaki/Eileen.

...

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" Tsuzuki said, smiling brightly. He held some sort of food in his hands, but Hisoka didn't put it into focus. He moaned and turned over sleepily, moving his arm to cover his eyes, his shirt riding up over his stomach. After that, he didn't budge.

There was the sound of Tsuzuki setting the platter down. Then the sound of him shifting closer on the bed.

"If you don't get up, I'm going to have to make you!" he sing-songed. Hisoka tensed, knowing what that meant. He wouldn't dare.

Tsuzuki ran his fingers softly up and down Hisoka's pale stomach, feeling the shivers beneath him. The boy tensed his muscles, refusing to let out a single squeak.

Of course, his plan went out the window as soon as Tsuzuki decided to dip his finger in his navel, poking four times. The ticklish touch drove Hisoka insane.

The boy burst into laughter, kicking his legs. He pushed him away, wrapping his arms around his stomach.

"Quit it...! I'm up, I'm up...!" he whined, still giggling a little.

Tsuzuki couldn't help smile at his partner's cuteness. They had a big, fun day ahead of them and Tsuzuki thought this was the perfect way to start it off.

"I made you breakfast in bed. Eat up."

Hisoka noticed two things right away. First, he felt touched that his boyfriend would do something so sweet, and second, he realized that without Muraki's curse, his partner's touch actually felt kind of nice.

...

Tsuzuki wanted to interlock his arm with Hisoka's but thought better of it. The boy was known to dislike touch, and he'd already pushed his limits. Hisoka felt his partner's longing and rolled his eyes. He interlocked his arm with Tsuzuki's, grinning smugly. Sometimes being an empath had its advantages. Tsuzuki blushed. Hopefully Hisoka hadn't noticed some of his more sensual thoughts about him. If he had, he didn't say anything.

In the city was a beautiful cafe surrounded by various other shops. The cafe was grey-green and white. It stood out only because it was their arranged meeting place for them, Tsubaki, and her new partner. Hisoka had a feeling he knew who it was, having felt a guardian angel watch over Tsubaki for some time. If it was her friend from long ago, the one who'd been her heart transplant, he looked forward to finally meeting her.

Hisoka felt bad that Tsubaki still had lingering feelings for him. And he'd be lying if he said he didn't have any for her. But they'd both agreed that Hisoka's bond with Tsuzuki was stronger. He hoped they could still be friends, but he knew things would be difficult. After all, they both took a long time to get over someone.

Tsuzuki's voice brought him out of his daze.

"Well, what do you know, they aren't here yet!" He chuckled. It was five minutes to 12pm. They'd decided to meet at 12:10 but it their haste they'd gotten there early. Tsuzuki scratched his head. "What do you think; do you want to go for a walk while we wait?"

Hisoka thought for a while. It would be a shame if they got caught up in what they were doing and missed the appointment. He looked at his watch. If they wouldn't make it back in time, it would be on him. He nodded, going along with Tsuzuki's idea. "But if we're late, I'll never forgive myself!"

Tsuzuki chuckled. He made a mental note that Hisoka felt strongly about getting back in time and to make sure not to disappoint him.

They went around the corner and got some ice cream from a street vendor. Tsuzuki never thought Hisoka would be the type for chocolate-vanilla swirl, but the boy was full of surprises. While Tsuzuki preferred the vanilla side, Hisoka preferred the chocolate side. He said it was less sweet, but had more character. Tsuzuki found it interesting that his boyfriend could be analytical about pretty much anything, even ice cream.

Hisoka spotted an ad for the beach nearby. At pointing it out, Tsuzuki got excited. He hadn't been to the beach for almost a hundred years.

"Can't wait to go, huh?" Hisoka teased. "You'd better not wear your old 1920s bathing suit though."

"Hey! That bathing suit is fashionable!"

"It's literally falling apart. Gosh, Tsuzuki, at least order a new version of it off the internet."

Tsuzuki blinked in confusion. Wait, he's never been on the internet before...? No wonder he's so innocent, Hisoka thought. I've got to show him later though.

They stopped by a perfume shop. Tsuzuki saw one called 'Violet Eyes' by Elithabeth Taylor. He asked about it. Apparently, as the shopkeep told him, there was a beautiful actress with mysterious purple eyes who was famous in the 20th century. The shopkeep took another look at him, startled. Kind of like yours... he said.

"Oh."

"See, Tsuzuki? Your eyes are nothing to be ashamed about." Hisoka said. Tsuzuki looked at him with surprise and then affection. If there's one thing Hisoka would keep insisting on, it's that Tsuzuki had every right to live as anyone else. Muraki had brought down his self esteem something awful; when it was already low to begin with, and the man had almost ended his life a second time. Hisoka was there to stop him. He'd been scared, oh so frightened that Tsuzuki would do it. That his words meant nothing. He was so relieved when he'd gotten through to him.

Hisoka had put his arm around him reassuringly, and Tsuzuki reciprocated, as if to tell Hisoka he'd never attempt to take his own life again.

They got the perfume as a reminder to Tsuzuki that he was normal, and then decided to get a couple different ones for the girls as a gift.

"I love you," Hisoka whispered to Tsuzuki as they left the shop. In response, Tsuzuki kissed the top of his head. "Hey! My lips are down here!"

Tsuzuki chuckled, and then gave Hisoka the kiss he craved.

They were happy. And nothing could ruin it. As they turned a corner, Hisoka froze. Okay... almost nothing. Tsuzuki noticed the shop Hisoka was staring at. He had that thousand yard stare.

"Doll Repair Shop."

Tsuzuki realized what it meant to Hisoka right away. Muraki had often dehumanized him, calling him a doll, and taunted him that he could never be fixed. Muraki had been the one who'd broken him. The man was dead now, but the memory of his trauma still remained. It would stay with Hisoka for the rest of his life.

Hisoka spoke, but seemed to not realize it. His words were filled with venom and got louder as his anger spiked.

"You said it wasn't possible. You said a broken doll couldn't be fixed. You lied to me!"

Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes. Oh no... If Hisoka cried, Tsuzuki knew he would cry too.

"Why are you still here?! You're supposed to be dead! Why are you ruining what should be a perfect day?!"

"Hiso-"

The boy dropped to the ground, feeling helpless. How could such a place exist? Why was it contrary to all Muraki had taught him? And why did he feel a fierce envy of all the dolls in that shop, broken but able to be fixed?

"His-"

"No! It's not true!" Muraki was still there, inside him, rotting everything that should be pure. Plowing through his flower garden, uprooting everything, and replacing it with dead carcasses. Leaving a hole in his heart as painful as a knife twisting inside, and large as the moon. The horrible red moon of that twisted night. He'd been only thirteen, and Muraki had been over twenty.

"Hi-"

"Please, Tsuzuki, stop! How could you love someone as rotten and disgusting as me?! Tell me why!"

The other man looked back helplessly. Muraki was the disgusting one. He was the inflictor of pain and misery. Hisoka was innocent. Taking a deep breath, Tsuzuki decided to show him his feelings rather than tell him with words. He concentrated to keep his hate for Muraki muted, afraid it might translate as hate for Hisoka. He'd hurt the boy with his feelings of anger before. He kept his breathing even, feeling only soft love for his boyfriend, and touched his arms softly.

Hisoka gasped, feeling understanding and warmth. The tears that pricked at his eyes finally fell. He was loved. And he realized at the base of those feelings that he could be fixed. That there was still hope for him to carry on a normal life. He needed therapy. There would be lots of tears, but with Tsuzuki's help he could get through it. He realized it, feeling the love that washed over him. He hugged Tsuzuki, not caring what anyone else thought. He was loved. He could be fixed after all. And he didn't care what Muraki thought anymore. The man was dead and gone, having been sentenced to Hell's Prison for eternity.

"I love you," he muttered into Tsuzuki's coat.

"I love you too, Hisoka," the man muttered back. "I love you too."

...

They sat in the cafe, waiting for the girls. Tsuzuki had ordered them coffee with an additional sponge cake dessert.

Hisoka hadn't touched his, while Tsuzuki's plate was empty almost immediately. Hisoka had picked up a book from the mini-library and was reading while occasionally checking his watch.

Tsuzuki asked if he was going to eat that, making Hisoka smirk slightly.

"Go ahead, I'm not hungry."

He'd already eaten breakfast and ice cream, and his desire for sweets was low to begin with.

Both boys looked up when the ding-a-ling of the door was heard. The girls had arrived!

They talked for a while about what was new. Apparently Hisoka was right, Tsubaki's new partner was Eileen! The girls were touched that they'd gotten them perfume as a gift and gave the boys their gift. A golden toy elephant for Tsuzuki and a book about poetry for Hisoka. The boys were satisfied with their gifts as well.

Hisoka noticed Tsubaki was happy to be reunited with her childhood best friend. There were a lot of positive feelings between them, almost as strong as the bond between him and Tsuzuki. He smiled, happy they could be together like this.

After meeting with their friend and her partner, and wishing them well, Tsuzuki and Hisoka decided to go home. It had been a beautiful day.

At home, in their apartment, Hisoka ran his fingers up his partner's stomach, then quickly tickled his ribs and underarms. Tsuzuki laughed boisterously.

"That was for this morning!" Hisoka said. Then all mischievousness left his voice. He motioned Tsuzuki downwards, making his intentions clear. Gazing at his boyfriend lovingly, he slowly leaned in for a kiss. Tsuzuki followed, deepening it. After a minute, their lips parted. Hisoka spoke softly. "And that... was for this afternoon."

Tsuzuki's heart sped up. He knew if things went down this road, they'd end up in bed. And before they ended up there, both of them needed to have a conversation about what they were comfortable with and what kinds of things were and weren't okay.

He decided to go to the kitchen for coffee. Coming back to the sofa and coffee table, he realized he was readier than ever to have that conversation with Hisoka. His love for the boy had grown stronger throughout the day, to the point he longed for him more than ever. He needed to be closer to him. Needed to show him love without cruelty. To show him he deserved to belong in this world just as much as he did. Tsuzuki could wait if Hisoka needed more time. He didn't want to mess anything up. He just loved the boy so much, he wanted to be close to him.

Little did he know, Hisoka, who was currently meditating and shielding his emotions from all others, felt the same way.

The End.
