  When the faun threw up, the centaurs rushed to check on her condition. Their first assumption was that it was their food that had made her sick. They bombarded her with questions about what fauns normally eat. The angry faun sharply cut off them off, informing them that it wasn't their food, it was morning sickness. She and her husband had been trying for a long time to have a baby, and now that she finally had what she'd been waiting so long for, a bunch of monsters were going to take everything from her.

  The faun's words cut deep and the matron was clearly overcome. At first this had been just another hunt for her. After their elders met with the seer, they returned to the village and gave instructions that all who were able to hunt were to seek out a forest creature with the mystic horns. A unicorn would be the best they could hope for, but a faun or a satyr would also work. Once one was located, it was to be captured alive and brought to the ruins of the ancient temple. The matron just happened to be the first hunter to catch one, and this unlucky faun was the creature she caught. However, the faun turned out to not be a mere creature, and the more time she spent with the matron the harder it became to ignore that fact. Learning that the faun was pregnant broke the matron's resolve.
