CHAPTER SIXTEEN

"Erin, this is Ron. My new boyfriend."
Erin raised an eyebrow and looked at the guy next to me. He was thin but build well, taller than me, with big pearly whites and blonde-streaked hair.
Okay.
So.
I just met him, like, yesterday, (on Instant Messenger) but we decided it was a mutual attraction, and wham-o! We're a couple. I love it. He's sooo handsome. He came by and picked me up from school today like a true gentleman.
Ron extended a hand to my bff. "Hey." He said, "I abso-freakin-lutely love your shirt. Aqua is so fetching!"
I stood there, a blank smile frozen on my face.
Ooookay, so he's a little bit of a flamer. So am I. It should work, right?
Erin made a face at me, similar to mine. "Well, now, all of this happened... quickly."
"So?" I replied, puffing out my chest. "Our love is in the stars! We're astronomically a perfect match!"
I made a heart shape out of my hands and put it over my chest. Ron laughed. It sounded a little like a giggle, but that's okay, because like I said, he's cute.
"I've never seen you before." Erin said cautiously. Still friendly.
"I go to Faulten. I'm the leader of the LGBT there." Ron told her proudly. "Jerry and I met through MSN yesterday, and oh my God, he's amazing."
Well now, I couldn't argue with that.
"Hey," I said, "Erin, bring Alyssa and we can go get dinner at Chaz's today. A double date!"
"I love double dates!" Ron squealed, grabbing my hands. I smiled broadly.
"Sure." She said, "But I gotta call Natalie first. Make sure she's not too pissed at me still."
"Oh, she'll be fine." I said, waving my hands up and down, "She talks about you all the time, you know."
"What?"
"Like you're really something special." I turned to Ron. "Oh gosh, did you know Erin accidentally called me Nat once?"
Ron made an amused face, but Erin interjected, "No I didn't."
"You did!" I said, crossing my heart. I really was telling the truth. "But you didn't even notice, so I let it go. I took it as a compliment. I mean, you had called me a Latina hottie. Who would argue?"
Again, Ron giggled.
"I'm superglad you two have gotten so close. It's like we have a trio now!" I rambled.
Ron said, "Maybe I'lll be part of your little group soon!"
I froze. Erin and I made eye contact. I made a laughing noise, "Sure. Sure, maybe Ron..."
I saw the amused-as-hell look in Erin's eyes, so (just to spite her) I said super-loud, "Ronni-poo-kitten-pie, you're the bestest boyfriend ever!"
"So are you!!!" He replied, looking so happy it must have hurt.
That'll show Erin. I knew she doubted my ability to form strong relationships, but I'd prove her wrong with Ron.
