Description Creating The Strange Bird:
Aurora took another deep breath, feeling relief come over her as she took in the fresh air. She smiled as she felt her stress leaving her as smooth as the flow of the lake next to her.

“This…this is actually rather liberating,” said Aurora, smiling softly as she felt her anxiety melting away. “I…it was a good idea to come here after all” continued Aurora, smiling contentedly as she reached into her shorts.

She pulled out her mobile phone, smiling warmly as she took a selfie. Something to remember her visit by.

“Now…to send it to Keith and Bethany,” said Aurora, shifting over into her contacts as she prepared to send a message to the pair. However, when her message failed to send, Aurora was filled with confusion.

“Huh?” thought Aurora, taking a moment to investigate the issue. Thankfully, due to her savviness and experience with her phone, it was almost child’s play to figure out the issue.

“No signal? That’s…weird” said Aurora, confusion filling her soul for a brief moment. However, she brushed off her doubts, placing her phone back in her pocket. She shook her head, deciding to look over herself in the lake once more.

“Besides…I can always show them later” thought Aurora, letting her doubts fade from her mind as she saw her reflection within.

Aurora admired her red hair, a well-valued part of her appearance as it glistened in the sun from above. It complimented her ruby lipstick perfectly as her dark blue eyes glowed like sapphires. She couldn’t help but smile once more, taking pride in her appearance.

“I…I am beautiful today” said Aurora, chuckling as she continued to admire herself in the lake. As she did, the lake seemed to shift, rippling slightly as the image within began to change.

The waters of the lake swirled, the current shifting and changing as the image of Aurora’s reflection began to change. Unknown to Aurora, the magic within was foreshadowing her future to come.

Which was why her image was replaced with a common flamingo.

Aurora, oblivious for the moment to the image in the lake, still found herself feeling an unusual sense of peace within her. Perhaps, perhaps having some space of her own would be good for her.

Perhaps, it would be good for all of them.

“Yes…mother needs to realise I’m old enough to leave the nest,” said Aurora, nodding as she knew what she had to do later. For now, however, she was content to glance back into the lake, curious to eye her reflection again.

What she didn’t expect…was to see the reflection of a flamingo staring back at her.

“What the hell?!” shouted Aurora, shuffling back as she felt shock coming over her. After taking a moment to catch her breath, she crawled forward. She shook her head, still wondering what could have caused such a strange image.

“I…I must be seeing things” thought Aurora, looking back over the lake. She stared back into the lake, seeing her reflection…was that of a flamingo.

“Wha…what’s going on?” wondered Aurora, shifting her head as she saw the reflection copying her. She was struggling to reconcile her mind with what was going on. She shook her head, turning away as she looked away from the lake.

As she did so, she saw a newcomer nearby. It was a peahen as Aurora made a quick decision. She stood up, walking away from the lake as she tried to take her mind off the weird situation she had just experienced.

“Wow…I didn’t think the Aviary would have any birds yet” thought Aurora, trying to recall if Rebecca had mentioned them having some. After a moment of consideration, she shrugged her shoulders, figuring it didn’t matter.

“Hey!” shouted Aurora, trying to get the peahen’s attention. Megan responded as she turned around, noticing Aurora approaching her.

“Now is not a good time,” thought Megan irritably. Despite her fear, however, Megan couldn’t help but feel a need to try and save Aurora…even if it was already too late.

“You need to get out of here!” squawked Megan, annoyed as her calls seemed to have the opposite effect as Aurora only came closer. “Damn it…fuck off!” continued Megan, it becoming even harder to hide her fear of Chris and agitation over Aurora’s idiocy.

“Such a pretty bird,” said Aurora, reaching her hand out calmly. She tried to soothe Megan who only stared at the hand irritably. However, as Megan tilted her head, she got an idea.

“Perhaps…she’ll leave if I play along,” thought Megan, her mind racing as she quickly looked around for Chris. Megan stood still, allowing Aurora to pet the top of her forehead.

What neither of them expected was for a small spark to emanate from the contact.

“Wait…is that?” thought Megan, feeling a sensation flowing out of her…and into Aurora. “Oh…oh no” continued Megan, dreading what was happening as she feared that she had just caused the very thing she was trying to prevent.

Aurora, on the other hand, felt rather numb as the sensations passed into her body. Her eyes flickered, and her stomach began to feel uneasy. As the magic continued to flow into Aurora, preparing her changes, she couldn’t comprehend her surroundings. Her mind was scattered, leaving her unable to properly focus on anything other than the pain.

After a short moment, which had felt much longer to the pair, Aurora was finally able to pull her hand loose from Megan’s head. She fell back as she did so, dazed as the sensations began to spread all over her body. However, they began to hone in on her chest, about to cause irreparable changes to the woman.

As Megan pulled back, she shook her head. She felt the sensations within her fade as she eyed Aurora. Despite her current predicament, she couldn’t help but feel concerned as she walked over towards the dazed woman. Megan looked over at Aurora, her eyes widening as she noticed something prickling under Aurora's top.

It was a cluster of feathers…pink feathers.

“Oh No!” squawked Megan, her worst fears being realised that she had caused Aurora’s changes. She stood still, thinking of a possible way to rectify her mistake…but nothing came to mind.

To Megan’s bitter realisation, there was nothing she could do.

As Megan heard a nearby rusting, she quickly snapped out of her stupor. She looked around, eying Chris in the distance as she remembered why she was here.

“Crap,” thought Megan, eyeing Aurora one last time…as a human anyway. As she shook her head, Megan turned around. She then continued to run, not wanting Chris to catch up to her.

As Megan ran off into the distance, Aurora was beginning to regain her awareness. She blinked a few times, her vision becoming clear as she managed to get herself upright. As she did so, she felt a sudden rush of blood to her head, causing her to clutch her temples.

“Ugh…what, what the hell just happened?” mumbled Aurora, her brain feeling as if it was swimming in its own juices. A small prickling around Aurora’s chest gained her attention as she looked down below at her top.

What she didn’t expect to see…was a cluster of pink feathers.

“What the hell?!” screeched Aurora, her mouth gawking at the cluster of feathers. She yanked one curiously, becoming terrified as she realised it was tightly attached to her.

However, this didn’t stop her as she managed to yank one free. The sudden surge of pain coursed through her, scattering her thoughts for a brief moment.

“Ow!” shouted Aurora, her mind still trying to come up with something, anything to explain what was happening to her. She tried to pull out another, then another and another. She ignored the sudden spasms of pain that struck her nerves until finally, she couldn’t take it anymore.

“This…this is impossible,” thought Aurora, eying down at the cluster of pink feathers which only…seemed to be growing. Her eyes widened as the pink feathers continued to spread under her shirt, causing her to pant as a sudden surge of heat overcame her.

“Becoming…hard to think” panted Aurora, her breathing increasing as she stared down at her top. She shook her head, not desiring to remove the garment. She was desperate not to succumb to whatever was changing her.

After another surge of heat came over Aurora, however, she finally relented. She gripped the top in her hands, lifting it over her head as she threw it to the floor. She stared at her top for a moment longer, shaking her head before returning her attention to her chest.

However, upon closer inspection, Aurora quickly regretted doing so.

“The fuck?!” said Aurora, having noticed that the cluster of pink feathers had only broadened, becoming truly voluminous across her body. As she continued to stare at the feathers in horror, Aurora felt a tingling in her chest.

She managed to look down, barely noticing her breasts between the large cluster of feathers. As the tingling began to intensify, Aurora’s eyes widened as she noticed they seemed to be getting…smaller?

“What…what the hell is happening to me?” mumbled Aurora, disoriented as her breasts continued to shrink. The feathers began to broaden over them, essentially devouring them as Aurora felt her now flat chest. Tears came to her eyes as she barely held them back.

Aurora once again looked down at her body. Desperate to get her mind off of what had just happened, she eyed the pink feathers once again. A sudden realisation came to her as she realised what she was becoming. This caused her previous fear to be replaced with agitation and frustration as her anger flared up, almost animalistically.

“A Flamingo? Seriously?!” shouted Aurora, barely holding back the urge to scream. She could feel the feathers prickling out further, spreading further across her body as it very nearly was covered entirely in the pink plumage.

“AHHHHHHHHH!” screamed Aurora, not able to hold back the urge anymore. She continued to scream into the ether, pissed that her humanity was being robbed from her. However, as she continued to scream, they began to sound more…inhuman.

Aurora’s eyes widened as she gave a distinct honk from her mouth. She clasped her hands around her mouth, eyes widened with fear as it took her a moment to register the noise she had just produced.

“No…no, that couldn’t have possibly come out of…me” reasoned Aurora, trying to find an explanation for the violation of all natural laws that she was aware of. She began to feel a tingling sensation in her legs, craning her head to get a good view of the changes to come.

“I…I don’t want this” said Aurora, struggling not to feel bitter about her present predicament…and the future to come. Her legs continued to tingle, the sensations increasing in magnitude until finally…

CRACK!

“What the…whoa!” shouted Aurora, lurching forward. She held her hands out to stop herself, fearful that she might hit the ground. Fortunately, or not, her knees bent in the opposite direction, bringing her back upright following her near-collision with the floor.

“Never…again,” thought Aurora, feeling a dizzy spell coming over her from the sudden shift. As she tried to regain her bearings, her knees began to tingle. They began to change, bone becoming smaller, simplifying as they began to morph into her new ankles. They bent experientially, taking care not to lurch forward as Aurora came to her senses.

“My…my knees are gone?” wondered Aurora, feeling oddly intrigued as she couldn’t help but smile curiously. One of her legs lifted up, leaving Aurora struggling to keep her balance as a strange thought forced itself to the front of her mind.

“Wow that transfer took forever…it’d be nice to finally get some rest,” thought Aurora, her eyes glazed over slightly as the tingling continued to spread across her legs. It felt like being wrapped in a blanket as Aurora remained trapped in her daydream.

“Where…where are the others?” thought Aurora, struggling to focus her mind on anything else. As her mind wandered, it always came back to the same image. An image containing a swan, a toucan, a heron, a crane and finally, a flamingo.

“Wha…what’s going on?” said Aurora, snapping out of her daydream for a brief moment. However, whatever supernatural force was responsible for her current transformation seemed insistent on placing her back in trance.

“No…no!” shouted Aurora, trying to resist further. However, it was all in vain as she found herself being forced back into the darkest corners of her mind.

Return to the Old Zoo:
“No!…wait…what?” thought Aurora, shaking her head as she eyed her surroundings. They seemed familiar to her, even though Aurora couldn’t recall why.

“Wha…what’s going on?” wondered Aurora, unknowingly craning her now longer neck. Her body felt unnatural, wrong. She was raised on one leg, flapping her sings casually as her eyes widened in realisation.

“Wait…wings?!” honked Aurora, ruffling her feathers as her wings flapped momentarily. She closed her eyes, feeling something changing within…attacking her sense of self.

“No…wha…what’s happening?” thought Aurora, feeling herself calm as she glanced down at herself. Aurora felt more natural in her flamingo body, oblivious to the fact that new memories were beginning to settle in her mind.

“Aurora? You ok?” asked a voice, causing Aurora to suddenly turn her head. Moving her body was becoming increasingly natural as she eyed the swan who had called out to her.

“Yes…just a little scare Eri” replied Aurora, shaking her head as she eyed the swan. She ‘smiled’ as she recognised her companion, her ‘sister’ if you will. “Although, now that I think about it…I don’t remember why I was scared” continued Aurora.

“Of course you don’t” trumpeted Eri, shaking her head amusingly. “We do worry about you sometimes” continued Eri, motioning towards Geoffrey and Liam. “After all…we’re family, and family looks out for one another” finished Eri, taking a glance at the nearby clock.

Aurora nodded, taking a momentary glance at her surroundings. She was currently standing in a large body of water, one leg raised. She noticed the cobblestone path surrounding her enclosure, eyeing the bars separating her from the other birds. She ‘smiled’ as she noticed it was near opening time…and she knew Eri was secretly fond of the children.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Aurora was oblivious to her surroundings as the sensations focused their attention on her legs. Aurora’s nerves felt on edge as the magic of the Aviary began to make them shift.

Her new ankles bent back instinctively, her upper thighs beginning to thin out alongside her hamstrings. The sensation felt ticklish to Aurora, still too far into her daydream to take any notice of her changes. Her muscles ‘deflated’, leaving very little left as her upper legs began to harden, the pink skin darkening as they changed shape. Grooves began to form on the newly changing skin as they continued to harden, becoming truly animalistic and allowing Aurora to explore the waters she would be soon feasting from.

“Huh?” mumbled Aurora, feeling her changes but struggling to respond to them. Her shorts and panties began to slip downwards, no longer being supported by her changing hips, falling straight past her changing legs. As they did, pink feathers began to push out, spreading like a virus as they covered Aurora’s lower body and indirectly protected her modesty. A tingling in her rear diverted the changes for the moment as they were preparing to form Aurora’s new tail.

Aurora felt a small nub poking out of her rear. It was then a short stubby tail protruded as long pink feathers began to coat it, growing strong and thick. They were the same pink shade as the rest of her body, wiggling slightly as if they were a new muscle being stretched.

The sensations then returned their attention to Aurora’s legs, the skin hardening further as her lower muscles began to change shape. Like balloons, they began to shrink, losing definition as the harder skin continued to infect and replace the human skin. As Aurora’s legs began to stiffen, becoming more inflexible, they rose, gaining a few inches as they became a true flamingo length.

“Wait…what’s happening to me?” thought Aurora, resisting more against the unwanted daydream. She tried to force her eyes open, trying to see what was happening. However, the magic changing her was stronger, able to force her back into her trance as her feet began to tingle…preparing to change.

Her toes wiggled in her sandals, goosebumps coming over them as Aurora’s second and fourth toes…began to shrink. They forced themselves smaller and smaller, bending unnaturally as they sank into Aurora’s feet. The skin was beginning to harden, the shade darkening to match the rest of her new legs. Aurora remained clueless as to the extent of her changes as the sensations surrounding her remaining toes began to increase in magnitude.

Her toes stretched, almost appearing dislocated as her nails pushed themselves out. The nails began to darken, forming a pair of small claws which would help Aurora grip prey in her new life ahead. Her toes began to stiffen, webbing forming between them.

The webbing started at the tip of her remaining toes, a thin pink strand forming to link them together. Then another, and another, and another formed as they began to mesh together. They spread down her foot, thick webbing forming between her new claws as her skin finished darkening as her feet were reduced to the claws of her new species. The claws promptly tore through her new sandals, leaving them in tatters around the developing flamingo.

Meanwhile, within Aurora's mind, she finished eyeing the clock as she noticed Eri staring at her through the bars.

“It’s nearly time!” trumpeted Eri excitedly, fully aware of the children who inevitably approach. However, despite her enthusiasm, Eri couldn’t help but hiss in annoyance.

Aurora stared at Eri, feeling momentary confusion once more at the display. However, this was short-lived as she felt more memories pouring into her mind. Aurora ‘smiled’ as she craned her head down towards Eri, trying to comfort the swan.

“Perhaps we should just appreciate that any children take interest in us,” honked Aurora, her tone warm as she noticed the swan staring at her. “It’s actually quite nice not to be overwhelmed by an army of children every day” continued Aurora, trying to reassure Eri who ruffled her feathers in response.

“But…I’m sick and tired of Megan consistently ‘outperforming’ us” replied Eri, flapping her wings briefly as she recalled the annoying peahen. “It’d be great to be the centre of attention…if only once” continued Eri, her tone growing bitter as she managed to steal a glance at Megan…and her mate, Chris. “Perhaps… if I had a mate of my own?” wondered Eri, lost in thought as she tried to imagine the attention she might receive.

“Eri!” honked Aurora, snapping the swan out of her thoughts. “One, one of those strange creatures have arrived,” continued Aurora, staring at the mysterious figure on the cobblestone path. They had long black hair and wore strange clothing although Aurora…couldn’t make out the face. They seemed to be carrying a box, noises emanating from it.

“Hello everyone” called out the figure as they got the attention of the nearby birds. “I hope you all welcome our newest addition…Aimi!” announced the figure. They placed the box in a nearby empty enclosure, opening the lid as the contents suddenly ran out.

“Ok…who dared kidnap me from my kingdom?!” honked Aimi, looking around frantically. She glanced towards Aurora, eying the flamingo intently.

As Aurora stared back, something in her mind forming once more, she felt light…as if she was finally breaking free from her trance. Aurora felt her resistance return, forcing herself back to reality as the memory around her began to fade.

“What the hell was that?!” honked Aurora, blinking as she found herself back in the Aviary. She gripped her temples, not noticing her new legs or broadened plumage as she tried to calm her developing headache. “Why…why did it feel so right?” wondered Aurora, unable to stop her mind from wandering. Memories she recognised and memories she didn’t shifted through her brain, confusing Aurora to no end.

Powerless to prevent her scattered mind from wandering, Aurora felt her memories focus on one memory in particular. She recalled Aimi being introduced to her and the other birds…and what came next.

“How…how dare she replace me!” honked Aurora, anger filling her body. “After everything I did to make her feel comfortable amongst the others” continued Aurora, blinking as her eyes glowed briefly.

They began to change, becoming more animalistic as the human sapphire blue was drowned out by the animalistic amber orange.

Aurora’s transformation was well on her way to becoming a new addition to the Aviary…a new addition to Rebecca’s collection.

After all, it was Rebecca’s will…and Rebecca’s will was law.

Hide And Seek:
Megan hadn’t stopped running. She couldn’t afford to.

“He’s not going to catch me…no…he’s not going to…” thought Megan, continuing to run as fast as she could. She took another skittish glance at her surroundings, terrified of bumping into..him.

And what would happen if he caught her.

“No…no, don’t think like that” squawked Megan, unable to stop herself. She continued to run, not paying attention to where she was going. Before she had time to react, Megan found herself tripping over.

“Whoa!” squawked Megan, falling down as her feathers scraped across the mud of the Aviary. A few fell off as Megan tried to get herself up as quickly as possible. She couldn’t afford any downtime as she turned back, noticing that the thing she had tripped over…was her own nest.

“Wait…that means” thought Megan, quickly turning forward to continue. However, as her eyes widened…she knew it was too late.

“Found you” squawked Chris, unfurling his feathers to block Megan’s path. He glared darkly at the peahen before him, his desire to mate at the forefront of his mind. “It’s nice to see you return to the nest” continued Chris, his sinister tone freezing Megan in her tracks.

“Leave…leave me alone” stammered Megan, paralysed by fear as she was rooted to the spot. At least…she hoped it was fear.

“But Megan…you still need to be punished” squawked Chris, his cloaca dripping with anticipation. “And it’s about time I claim my reward” continued Chris, ‘chuckling’ as he felt the temptation to mate overwhelming him.

“Stay…stay away from me!” squawked Megan, trying to force herself to run. However, her body felt very, very tired…and her cloaca was shivering with anticipation.

“But Megan, we must obey Rebecca’s will…because Rebecca’s will is law” squawked Chris excitedly, truly eager to make another brood with his mate.

Megan could only glance terrified at Chris, who was clearly looking forward to the mating that was to come. She felt powerless as she feared what would happen to her already fragile mind.

She…Megan knew it wouldn’t survive another round…and no false memories would give her relief this time.

Family By Choice:
“I…why did the others just abandon me?” wondered Aurora, her false memories dismantling her human identity as she clutched her head. “Especially Eri…I…I thought we were friends” continued Aurora, shaking her head.

Something just didn’t seem right.

“Wait…Eri’s my sister, my family never abandoned me!” shouted Aurora, her eyes widening as her human memories forced their way to the surface. She glanced downwards, horrified at what her body had become.

“What…what the fuck!” shouted Aurora, shaking her head in denial. “No, no, no…this…this isn’t a dream” mumbled Aurora, tears coming to her eyes. The realisation of what was happening washed over her a second time.

“W…why a flamingo?” thought Aurora, forcing the tears to withdraw. “I…I mean, seriously…if I had to become a bird, why not something cooler?” continued Aurora, trying to keep control of her emotions, keep hold of her sense of self. “I mean…a raven would at least be an improvement” finished Aurora, feeling goosebumps forming all over her arms as she glanced down at them.

“Guess…guess my wings are coming now,” thought Aurora, feeling bitter about what was happening to her. “Who…who has the right to do this to us? To me? To all those other people?” continued Aurora, noticing pink feathers beginning to prickle out from her pores.

The sensation was painful as Aurora felt each and every feather puff its way out of her skin. She could only watch pitifully as it was becoming increasingly harder to see her human arms under her developing plumage.

Despite her mood, Aurora was powerless as the feathers continued to push out by the dozen. She raised her arms, noticing the feathers made them feel like baggy sleeves as the extra weight seemed to be pushing them down.

“No…no, stay up!” honked Aurora, oblivious that her developing animal instincts were beginning to take control. She uncontrollably bent her arms as they were forced into an unnatural angle.

The pain of such a motion was short-lived as the magic began to mould Aurora’s bones.

Like an artist creating a masterpiece, Aurora’s humerus began to thin out, lengthening slightly as it did so. Her ulna and radius began to twist together, crunching as they snapped and aligned into new shapes, becoming a single bone as Aurora’s mind was wracked with excruciating pain.

“Fuck…fuck this hurts!” shouted Aurora, unable to stop her tears from flowing freely. Her tears soaked into her feathers, her bones continuing to snap and churn, assuming different shapes. Her hands started to tingle, the fingers bending back as they shrank. Each digit snapped and cracked, grinding down into nothingness as her palms crunched and thinned out.

It was as if someone was filing Aurora’s bones…like she had done with her nails so many previous times. Naturally, the whole experience had left Aurora inconsolable…and unable to even utter words.

As Aurora’s new wing bones finished forming beneath a colossal amount of feathers, the pain began to die down. Aurora’s senses began to return to her as her new wings flapped curiously. She eyed the darker shade of feathers at the edges of her new wings, still upset at the considerable loss of dexterity. She flapped her wings once more, upset at how they responded to her thoughts.

“No…this…this isn’t me!” honked Aurora, screaming as her mind seemed to be under assault. Two lives of memories were battling it out within her mind, each trying to claim dominance over the other. However, as Aurora’s amber eyes glowed slightly, it was becoming obvious which side was winning.

As Aurora’s mind felt fuzzy, she didn't notice her surroundings were getting bigger. Her eyes glazed over as she began to shrink, her body shifting downwards. Inch by inch, cm by cm, Aurora was heading closer to the ground until she stood at a height she hadn’t been since before puberty. Her long legs gripped the soft mud beneath her, keeping her sturdy as Aurora’s mind began to clear.

“Huh? When…when did everything get so big?” thought Aurora, her amber eyes betraying a small shade of sapphire blue. “Wait…let me guess…” said Aurora, not even trying to hide her bitter tone as she looked downwards. “Yes…I grew smaller…typical” finished Aurora, huffing annoyingly as she continued to eye her surroundings.

“At least I can…can still…HONK!” honked Aurora, her eyes widening as she could feel a tingling in her vocal cords. The sensations spread across her entire neck, Aurora feeling more goosebumps as feathers began to spread out all over it. They were a darker shade of pink compared to the rest of her body, spreading like wildfire as Aurora just shook her head.

“Guess there’s no escape from this” thought Aurora bitterly, having run out of tears to shed. She felt her head getting higher from the ground as her neck cricked. It lengthened out, stretching longer and longer as Aurora tried to keep her eyes off the ground.

Unfortunately, she failed miserably.

“Uh oh…vertigo,” thought Aurora, her eyes becoming disoriented as more and more feathers continued to prickle out of her neck. They felt incredibly itchy, prompting Aurora to try and scratch them as best as she could with her wingtips. This only caused more feathers to blossom out of her lengthening neck, coating it in a dark pink hue.

Within moments, the only thing that remained human about Aurora…was her face.

“HONK!” cried out Aurora, wishing there was someone, anyone to help her. However, her call landed on deaf ears as she could feel the tingling sensations spreading around her head. She wept as the sensations increased in magnitude, having lost all hope of rescue.

“Why…what did we do to deserve this?” thought Aurora, her tears streaming down her face. She could feel the pink feathers pushing out across her scalp, her fine red hair falling to the floor. As if to rub salt in the wound, Aurora noticed the locks of her hair vanish before hitting the ground.

Aurora’s weeps only increased as her hair vanished before her eyes, not able to even give her a last reprieve from her predicament. The pink feathers tickled as they began to spread across the back of her head. Her ears began to shrink, Aurora’s hearing fading for a brief moment.

This promptly returned with a vengeance, the sudden clarity disorienting Aurora for a brief moment as she stumbled.

“Fucking hell,” thought Aurora irritably, taking a moment to adjust to her much stronger hearing. She could hear the rustling of the leaves, the running water of a nearby lake, and the calls of a familiar crane.

“Of course, our ‘queen’ is already giving orders,” thought Aurora, struggling to hold back her irritation. Unaware that her human memories were being suppressed, Aurora could feel the feathers encroaching on her face, covering the pink skin in a pink plumage of feathers.

“HONK!” honked Aurora, feeling something pushing out from her mouth. She tried to gag as if she was about to vomit as her new beak began to push itself out. She spat her teeth out as the beak continued to push out, loosening her human teeth which vanished before hitting the ground.

Aurora could feel the taste of copper in her mouth, struggling to understand the cause. She shook her head, her beak pressing out further. Her ruby lips faded, stretching out before vanishing entirely as her nose began to shrink. It pushed itself up her face, thinning out considerably as her beak grew to its full length.

“HONK!” honked Aurora, her new beak now fully grown. It was amber-orange across the entire bill, the same shade as her new eyes. A black tip formed at the end as Aurora found her brain becoming too fuzzy.

Something was wrong, terribly wrong but…Aurora couldn’t remember what. Unknown to Aurora, her humanity was fading, soon to feel little more than a bad dream.

“Wait…I remember!” thought Aurora, her eyes lighting up. “I’m Aurora the flamingo…and I can’t wait to see the children again” finished Aurora, her eyes losing what little essence of sapphire they had. They darkened as the amber orange became completely dominant within her eyes, indicating to the world that Aurora was physically, and mentally, a greater flamingo.

Aurora looked around the Aviary, ‘smiling’ as it was quickly beginning to feel more like home. She looked down at herself, ‘beaming’ with pride as she eyed her plumage. She walked towards the nearby lake and looked down, eyeing her reflection within.

“I look so wonderful,” thought Aurora, taking delight in her appearance. “I wonder how long it’ll be before the children return?” wondered Aurora, her mind soon being distracted by the familiar honks of a certain red-crowned crane.

“Ugh…her again” honked Aurora, shaking her head. “Perhaps I should at least make myself known…even if the others don’t seem to like me anymore” continued Aurora, walking over towards the lake which, from her hearing, contained her ‘family.’

It didn’t take long for Aurora to find the other birds as she eyed them curiously. Eri was paddling on the lake, Geoffrey joining her as they were currently eating fish. Liam was atop a nearby perch as if looking over the others while Aimi stood in front of the ‘family’, eyeing Aurora with a glare.

“Took you long enough” honked Aimi, eyeing Aurora with disdain. It appeared that any previous family love had been converted into hostility as Aurora glared back at Aimi.

“I…I got mixed up in the transfer” replied Aurora, her grumpy tone highlighting that she wasn’t in the mood for this. “Blame the strange creatures who moved us” continued Aurora, noticing Aimi cocking her head.

“What have I said about answering back to your queen!” honked Aimi, her glare intensifying as Aurora shrank back slightly. “You are my subject…you have no authority!” continued Aimi, ruffling her feathers as she motioned her head, indicating that she expected Aurora to comply.

Aurora thought for a moment, considering her situation. Eventually, she hung her head, walking towards the lake before hearing a nearby croak.

“The queen expects you to find your own quarters” croaked Liam, glaring down at Aurora who stared at the toucan for a moment. It was then she huffed, her feathers ruffling as she walked away, keeping her head held high as she did.

Eri watched her go. She thought about running after her…but Aimi terrified her too much. She shook her head, angry at herself for her cowardice.

“To think she’s always been there for me…but I can’t even be there now” thought Eri, too terrified to defy their ‘queen.’ “Still…I should catch up with ‘sister’ soon enough” continued Eri, no longer able to make out Aurora in the vast grasslands of the Aviary.

Eri dunked her head down, plucking out another fish as she ruminated on her feelings.

And how she had disappointed the only ‘sister’ she’d ever known.

Time to Roost:
Within one of the small towers surrounding the Aviary, Rebecca watched the new birds with a sadistic grin. She spied down, using the binoculars provided as she noticed Aurora walking away from the rest of the group.

“Perfect…all according to plan,” said Rebecca, unable to resist cackling. Her grin widened as she felt her mood soaring. It was a vast improvement over the worry she had been feeling earlier on as she further spied on the newfound ‘family.’

“I must also commend Chris for being such a good little enforcer…” said Rebecca, her heart racing momentarily. Her smile became more loving rather than malicious. As her mind wandered, she could feel a building sensation within her. It was focusing on her rear as Rebecca was suddenly snapped out of her self-imposed trance.

Fortunately, compared to earlier in the day, Rebecca was swift enough to stop the developing outburst. She held out her hand as a green glow began to cover it. It enveloped her form, washing over her as the budding sensation began to die down.

“Goddam it” muttered Rebecca, still annoyed at whatever had caused this predicament. She tried to find a silver lining, eventually settling for the fact that she might be one step closer towards figuring out the cause for her ‘peahen predicament’.

She looked back into the telescope, looking around as she eyed no sign of Aurora. “Might as well check on our new ‘queen’” said Rebecca, barely keeping a straight face as she turned her attention to Aimi. The red-crowned crane had continued to honk, Rebecca imagining it giving orders to the surrounding birds.

“Now this is absolutely rich!” said Rebecca, unable to stop laughing. “Who knew changing her memories, moulding her personality like this could…could be so funny” continued Rebecca, her laughter downgrading to chuckling. “At least for me anyway” finished Rebecca, a dark smirk on her features as she eyed the newfound ‘queen’ once more.

“It’s funny how nervous she was today,” said Rebecca, her laughter calming down. Nevertheless, she continued to smile maliciously, content to have new additions to her zoo. “After all, she’s the one who organised the donation” continued Rebecca, managing to sneak a glimpse at Aurora, now having settled on a different lake within the Aviary.

“It’s funny that your mother organised this because she was so scared of you leaving Aurora,” said Rebecca, chuckling darkly for a moment. “Especially since now, you’re all so close…yet so far” continued Rebecca.

“It’s funny that you’re no longer welcome Aurora…especially since your mother would rather choose her new family now,” said Rebecca, chuckling as she revelled in the moment. “After all, you’re all effectively a family by choice now” finished Rebecca, eying the birds once more as she spotted the finishing touch she gave to Aimi.

“I must admit…the tail came out better than expected, truly one of a kind,” said Rebecca, beaming at her handiwork as she spied Aimi’s unique black tail feathers. It would certainly help her stand out amongst the others, helping once the zoo opened to the public.

If it opened to the public.

“No…I, I need to work through this,” said Rebecca, pushing her doubts from her mind. The Aviary had worked. It had been a complete success as she felt a plan coming together. Something to justify delaying the intentions of her higher-ups for a few more weeks.

“That’s perfect,” thought Rebecca joyously, the pieces beginning to connect in her mind. “I’ll fill out the remodelling request before I leave tonight,” continued Rebecca, having already come up with a name for her intended pitch.

Soon, Project Sanctuary would commence.

“Besides, it would definitely be an improvement for the animals…particularly Caitlyn” concluded Rebecca as she eyed the ‘family of birds’ for the last time…for now.

“In summary, I guess they’re bibbidi bobbidi screwed,” said Rebecca, almost immediately cringing at the ‘joke.’ Something just seemed off, like she was compelled to say those exact words for some reasons he didn’t understand.

“Ugh, Elizabeth’s love of kid's movies must be rubbing off on me” grimaced Rebecca, shaking her head in denial as her mind became focused on the annoying little dwarf.

“I must admit…she’s been more well-behaved recently,” thought Rebecca, her smile widening sadistically once more. “I guess I’ve shown her who's boss after all” finished Rebecca, finding herself perplexed as to the sudden change in Elizabeth’s mood.

“Still…I should probably investigate,” acknowledged Rebecca, preparing to depart from the tower. “I haven’t sensed Jeannette detecting anything since she was added but…can never be too careful” concluded Rebecca as she departed from the tower.

After all, she had an investigation to continue.

Unknown to Rebecca, the Spirit had been watching her every move. Following its earlier mishap, it had elected not to try transforming Rebecca again.

However, that didn’t mean it couldn’t troll her with some of the amusing jokes that Elizabeth had been sharing with it.

Unknown to the Spirit, Elizabeth had been sarcastic when sharing this joke.

“Still…it is rather fun making her second guess herself,” thought the Spirit, content in making Rebecca second guess herself for the time being. “I must feed. Between Calamity, Charlotte and Rebecca I’m absolutely famished” remarked the Spirit, quickly fading from sight.

The Spirit emerged within the Aviary as it licked its lips in anticipation. It held out its hand, a green glow emanating from it.

As the glow intensified, waves of energy began to converge on the Spirit’s location. They piled up, becoming wider and broader as the vast quantities of energy took on a pulsating green colour.

“Yes…yes, come to me” chanted the Spirit ominously, unable to resist drooling as it could feel the energy entering. It shivered with excitement, the rejuvenation restoring its pristine features as its voluminous turquoise hair began to glow even brighter. It almost seemed to twinkle, as if the Spirit had a whole galaxy within.

After a moment longer, despite its urges to continue devouring energy, the Spirit came to a reluctant stop. It opened its glowing eyes, revealing voids of green and blue which soon swirled into turquoise.

As the Spirit blinked, its eyes returned to normal. The blank voids were swiftly replaced by pupils as the Spirit smiled in satisfaction, grateful at having such a thorough meal.

“Now that was…exquisite,” said the Spirit, a genuine smile on its face. It basked in the glory of being the apex predator, enjoying the current silence from the residents below it.

However, this was interrupted as the Spirit sensed an ‘SQWARK’ as it closed its eyes for a moment.

“Megan?!” thought the Spirit curiously, recalling Marie…its friend’s request. “Why would she sound so distressed about having her memories back?” wondered the Spirit, closing its eyes as it sensed Megan’s location within the Aviary.

A second later, the Spirit vanished, intent on finding out what was wrong.

‘Fixing’ A Mistake:
It was a sight to behold as the Spirit materialised at Megan’s location. It took a moment for it to collect its bearings, eyeing the submissive peahen in position to accept her mate. The Spirit could feel Megan’s emotions flowing around it, could sense her distress…her fear.

“Get away from ME!” squawked Megan, unable to resist her animal instincts any longer. Her cloaca shivered in anticipation once more, seeming almost gleeful as Chris made his approach.

“C’mon Megan…you’ve never been this stubborn” taunted Chris, feeling his cloaca dripping as he approached his mate. “Besides…you enjoyed it last time” continued Chris, ‘smiling’ sadistically as he continued to walk towards Megan. His interest and intent were obvious as Megan dreaded his approach, still trying to run to no avail.

Megan, now out of options, could only weep as her instincts kept her still. She shook her head, trying to deny what was about to happen, having given up on resisting the inevitable.

“Megan? She’s…she’s terrified” thought the Spirit, eyeing Chris as it sensed something unusual within him. It felt similar to what it had felt in that Rainbow Boa, with additional external magic influencing his mind, and his decisions.

“No…no, this is not what I intended,” thought the Spirit, agitated about how its good intentions appeared to be falling apart before its eyes. It pondered what to do, fully aware that Megan had perhaps only moments before Chris got into position.

“I know!” said the Spirit, its frustration being replaced by joy as it snapped its fingers. It watched as the pair stopped still in their tracks, a blue glow coming over the pair. The Spirit smiled as it could sense that its magic was working as intended.

“Perfect,” thought the Spirit, hovering just out of sight. It regressed into its green glow state, content to sit back and eye the peafowl to ensure that everything worked out.

Megan felt strange, almost sick as the magic seeped into her. She could feel her human mind regaining control as her peahen instincts began to die down. Her aching cloaca swiftly calmed down as any instinct to mate left the peahen as she finally managed to stand back up under her own power.

“Oh…oh thank the fates,” thought Megan, breathing softly as she eyed Chris. She couldn’t help but gaze at him with scorn as she noticed a blue glow emanating from him.

Chris’s feathers unfurled as the magic seeped deep into his subconscious. His cloaca calmed, animal instincts being suppressed as his feathers appeared to glow. He blinked a few times, the darkness which had dominated his eyes appeared to be clearing.

However, the most significant changes were internal as Chris could feel his mind clearing? Memories of his life, with his mate Megan, were beginning to fade. Memories of being the star attraction of the Old Zoo alongside his mate were being washed away as his eyes continued to brighten with human awareness.

As Chris’s eyes returned to normal, he could feel his human memories settling in. Memories of volunteering experience, charity work and even his minor infatuation with a certain zookeeper had returned. As he blinked once more, removing any darkness as his eyes sparkled with human intelligence, Chris’s human memories had returned.

“Wha...what happened?” asked Chris, speech slurred as he felt woozy…disoriented.

Megan stared at Chris, feeling confused as he seemed…different. However, Megan couldn’t help but glare at him, still angry for all the grief she had been put through…because of him.

“We’re trapped dummy,” replied Megan, her tone blunt. “That crazy bitch of a zookeeper transformed us both into peafowl to add us to a zoo!” squawked Megan, starling Chris out of his stupor.

“But that…that’s not possible” squawked Chris, denial coming over him as he tried to move his arms. Wings flapped in response as Chris’s eyes widened in realisation. “So…so it wasn’t a dream?” continued Chris, his whole body feeling off as his tail feathers unfurled once again.

“No you idiot…it wasn't a dream” replied Megan, unable to prevent her tears from shedding. “For you, I don't know…for me, it was a nightmare” continued Megan, her tears flowing freely. Chris eyed the peahen before him and, in an attempt to comfort her, moved forwards.

“Stay back!” squawked Megan, taking a frantic step back. She glared fearfully at Chris, noticing the peacock stopped in his tracks. Given his current predicament, Chris couldn’t help but glare at the, in his mind, a rather dramatic peahen.

“What…what is your problem?” squawked Chris, tilting his head to one side. “I don’t even know your name and you’re acting like you've seen a ghost” continued Chris, managing to gain enough control to withdraw his tail feathers.

As Megan noticed Chris’s glaring at her, she couldn’t help her anger increasing exponentially. The only external indication of her bubbling rage was a few grey feathers becoming ruffled which Chris didn’t notice. Megan glared darkly at Chris, Chris taking a few steps back in response.

“Megan” stated Megan, her voice full of tranquil fury. “My name is Megan!” squawked Megan, unable to hold back her anger. “I was transformed by that crazy bitch, like you. However, unlike you, I was then violated by you which now means I have eggs which I didn’t want or ask for in that nest over there because of you!” screeched Megan, motioning her wing towards the nearby nest.

Chris wanted to say something, anything to defend himself. However, after noticing Megan’s dark glare, her wing motioning him towards the nest, he chose to say nothing. Chris walked towards the nest, taking his time as he got used to his new body. After what felt like an eternity, he arrived at the nest and stared into it.

True to Megan’s words, the nest had eggs in it…her words were true.

“But…but…this can’t be” squawked Chris, taking a few steps back. He felt sick to his stomach as he stared down at the floor. “I…I only wanted to contribute to the community but…but not like this” continued Chris, feeling short of breath as tears fell from his eyes.

Megan stared at the forlorn peacock before her. She tried to feel something, anything towards him. However, despite her best efforts, the only emotions she could feel were scorn, hatred but also…fear.

“Join the club,” said Megan, her deadpan tone causing Chris to look up. He glanced at the peahen, the girl before him and felt his emotions overwhelm him once more.

“I’m…sorry” squawked Chris, tears falling anew from his eyes. Chris felt lost as he didn’t have any idea of what to do, or how to make this situation better.

Megan eyed Chris, struggling not to pity the peacock before her. She sighed the best she could, her gaze softening. “Sorry is not going to fix what happened…what you did” squawked Megan, noticing she had Chris’s attention once more. “However, neither is staying angry at you” continued Megan, turning away as she stared at the nest…at her young.

“What…what do you mean?” asked Chris, moving closer towards Megan. However, as Megan shot him a dirty look, he took a few steps back. “Ok, so she likes her personal space,” thought Chris, still trying to reconcile what this girl had gone through…what he had done to her.

“It means…” started Megan, ‘sighing’ as she took a moment to gather her thoughts. “For better or worse, we are peafowl for the foreseeable future” continued Megan, looking around the Aviary briefly before returning her attention to her nest. “I imagine Management will be expecting us to look after our offspring…in the nest” squawked Megan, resisting the urge to ‘vomit.’ “We also need to keep on guard for any new birds to be added as it seems we’ll be sharing space with them” finished Megan, recalling her annoying encounters with the new additions earlier on.

“So…we have to work together?” asked Chris, noticing Megan nod reluctantly. Given everything Megan had just described to Chris…things he had caused, he couldn’t blame her for her hesitance. “I guess...I have little choice but to agree to this union,” squawked Chris.

“This is not a union” squawked Megan quickly, noticing Chris staring worryingly at her. “Think of it as…more of a partnership” continued Megan, calming as she eyed Chris once more. Chris could see that she was still nervous to be around him, keeping guard over his every movement.

“Well…I can’t really blame her” thought Chris, shaking his head. There was little point continuing to feel sorry for himself as he eyed Megan moving carefully into the nest. “Ok…what should I do first?” squawked Chris, trying to ease Megan with his tone.

“The eggs will need warmth for the time being,” replied Megan, settling herself in the nest. She sat down delicately on her eggs, trying to take care not to disturb them. “You can help by patrolling the Aviary, get an idea where the new birds have settled in, and perhaps take a look at yourself while you’re at it” suggested Megan, taking a deep breath.

“Ok, I’ll do that” squawked Chris, looking around the Aviary as he prepared the first of many patrols to come. As he did, he took one last glance at Megan, noticing the peahen, after a long stressful day, finally seemed to be relaxing.

“I truly am sorry for this Megan,” thought Chris, walking away from the nest to check out his new digs. “One day I’ll make this up to you” finished Chris, hearing a squawk in the distance as he opted to follow the noise.

As Chirs left, a green glow flashed with approval. The Spirit continued for a moment longer before vanishing from sight.

“I wonder what Elizabeth’s been up to?” thought the Spirit as it headed back towards the Loch. It hoped to see its best friend soon, hoping that the others hadn’t taken out the Spirit’s failed attempts at revenge on her.

If they had, the Spirit would make them pay! And next time, they wouldn’t get mercy!

Epilogue:
Rebecca entered the Reptile House, smiling as she approached the doorway to enter the Security Room. She noticed Jeannette in the corner of her eye as she did so. She decided to approach the Rainbow Boa instead, curious to see if her spy had found anything during her absence.

“Hello Jeannette,” said Rebecca, waving her hand as a green aura emerged from it. Jeannette hissed nervously for a moment, her eyes dulling as Rebecca’s glowed. The magic seeped around Rebecca, feeding her signals, theoretically allowing her to see through Jeannette’s memories.

Memories which didn't seem to appear.

“What?” wondered Rebecca, her previous joy quickly disappearing. “But…but how?” continued Rebecca, her eyes returning to normal as she stepped back. “Did…did one of them figure it out? Charlotte perhaps?” finished Rebecca, struggling to hold her irritation.

Fortunately, Rebecca took a deep breath, calming herself down before she turned to face Jeannette. She scowled at the Rainbow Boa, putting Jeannette on edge as she did so.

“Disappointing” muttered Rebecca, shaking her head as she continued her approach to the Security Room. Jeannette watched her go, quickly slithering away back to a nearby rock which had plenty of sunshine.

After all, she didn’t wish to provoke that…that thing’s wrath.

Rebecca continued towards the Security Room, her good mood now spoiled. “But…how could they’ve removed such a spell?” wondered Rebecca, lost in thought. She couldn’t help but be puzzled at how Elizabeth or Charlotte could've removed a relatively complicated spell.

“Perhaps…perhaps I’ve underestimated them,” said Rebecca, her thoughts quickly being distracted by a loud bellow. She jumped out of her wits, the noise catching her off guard as she took several steps back.

“Goddammit Anastasia!” shouted Rebecca, quickly realising the origin of the noise. Her temporary fear was quickly replaced with anger as she moved towards the crocodile enclosure. She glared down at Anastasia, noticing that she appeared to be ’smiling.’

“You are very, very annoying” grumbled Rebecca, ignoring how Anastasia seemingly swished her tail in satisfaction. “Guess she must’ve been a wanker as a human too” reasoned Rebecca, noticing Anastasia turning to leave. She wandered deeper into her enclosure, soon diving under one of the swamp-like rivers within.

“Seriously…how did she end up this bad?” thought Rebecca, shaking her head. She decided to depart, continuing towards the Security Room. “I mean…does she have her memories? Does she not?” continued Rebecca, agitated at how her magic managed to create such a temperamental beast.

“Fucking midget…erasing the footage as well” fumed Rebecca, recalling Elizabeth once again. “Because of her idiocy, I can’t even study Anastasia’s transformation to work out how my magic did it” finished Rebecca, still agitated as she approached the door to the Security Room.

Rebecca entered the Security Room, approaching the chair within. She sat down, turning to face the many monitors which adorned the wall. She took a glance towards her stack of tapes, a small frown coming to her face as she noticed ‘Diana’s Tape’ missing from the rest.

“I’ll find out who stole that soon enough,” thought Rebecca, pushing the thought into the back of her mind. “Then they’ll pay” finished Rebecca, returning her attention to the monitors as she skimmed through the many cameras covering every nook and cranny of the New Zoo…her New Zoo.

“Ok, everything seems normal right now” mumbled Rebecca, eyeing the monitor’s crystal clear vision. “Now, to investigate,” said Rebecca, pressing a few buttons as she cycled back to the previous day.

“Now…I felt the reaction somewhere around four in the afternoon” said Rebecca, turning a nearby dial as she scrolled through the hours.

To Rebecca’s surprise, and annoyance, upon reaching the desired time, the monitors became blank immediately. Static was the only thing Rebecca could see as she sat back, trying to make sense of the situation.

“Wait…Charlotte was here that day” said Rebecca, her eyes widening in realisation. She quickly sat back up, pressing a purple button as she zoomed back out. Rebecca eyed the footage over the last few weeks and noticed another blank spot as she checked the timestamp.

“Charlotte was also here that day as well,” said Rebecca, trying to find any footage to review. According to her records, that was the day Marie was due to be in.

So…where was Marie?

“I…I can’t believe it” thought Rebecca, holding her head in her hands for a brief moment. A moment later, she slammed them down onto the console, fortunately not denting it in her rage. “No…no it can’t be true…I broke them!” shouted Rebecca, shaking her head in denial.

Rebecca pressed the purple button once more, zooming out as she found another blank spot. This time, by her recollection, was the day Elizabeth was in. She had added a new Orca Whale to accompany Tyler…and was noticeably happier in the days following.

“Could they…Could they be plotting against me?” thought Rebecca, groaning loudly. “I need to keep a better eye on them. I cannot afford them to sabotage my project…my dream” continued Rebecca, fuming for a moment longer before shaking her head.

She needed to get her mind off her potential traitors…at least for the time being.

“Might as well check on Caitlyn” said Rebecca, a smile coming to her face. She pressed a red button on the console, the monitors flickering as they focused on the Tiger enclosure.

Rebecca sat back as she watched her tigers playing. Caitlyn and Travis seemed to be having such fun together, making Rebecca content at having reunited them. They batted each other with their paws, Caitlyn being pinned down as Travis seemed to be eying her seductively.

“Well…I guess deep down, they’re still just horny teenagers” said Rebecca, chuckling softly at their antics. She noticed Caitlyn managing to push Travis away before getting to her paws. Travis was clearly frisky as he laid back, swatting his belly with his paw.

Caitlyn got the hint as she approached him, the pair cuddling intimately as Rebecca smiled contentedly. The pair snuggled together, their tails twisting in harmony as they rubbed their muzzles together.

“Ah, young love” mused Rebecca, her thoughts drifting back towards Chris. She shook her head before they could focus, however, not wanting to risk having another episode. She watched as the pair seemed to be moving deeper into the enclosure as if desiring privacy. Rebecca nodded in agreement, switching the camera's attention away from the enclosure.

“Well…guess I might be seeing some offspring from them in the near future,” said Rebecca, happy that Caitlyn had adjusted so well. It was at that moment Rebecca grabbed the paperwork for the remodelling request.

She began to fill it out, further convinced that it would be best to finish it before leaving. She would deliver it to her superiors in the coming days as her mind wandered back towards Caitlyn, her…daughter.

“Don’t worry Caitlyn, soon you have all the space you could desire” said Rebecca, continuing to fill out the paperwork as her smile became sweet, genuine, and loving.

Soon, Project Sanctuary would commence…and Rebecca couldn’t be any more thrilled to begin.
