This is Avis, my character in Echo Bazaar. (Echo Bazaar can be found here: [link] )

It is "of mysterious and indeterminate gender" because several years ago, it accidentally ran afoul of the (highly illegal) Draught of Oblivion that its father was making. The Draught eliminated all its memories and gave it nasty acid burns on the upper half of its face. In reconstructing its identity, Avis hasn't really chosen a gender.
Its father took it to a doctor immediately when he realized what had happened, but was arrested for his concoction. He recommended Avis go to Fallen London (where he'd been planning to sell the Draught), but Avis immediately landed itself in debtors' prison on its father's behalf.
With the help of a Mysterious Benefactor, it has unlanded itself from debtors' prison and is now getting used to the underground city.

This entire background is ALSO subject to change, seeing as how I'm really only two days into the game and don't really know what's what yet. But I am having fun. And, see, I want to keep thinking about it even when I'm out of actions, so this is what I do with my time.
