Needs a new ground texture, the tiling is clearly visible. That is pretty damn awesome otherwise.

Pretty kewl, but steps on grass shouldn't cause so much dust to float, so try to exchange it for a sand, dusty destroyed road, or something like that. Also, our "beautiful" post-socialistic buildings + 'Mechs = EPIC WIN

wish i know how to do this with lightwave, let alone have a video editing program to add in special effects.

I personally don't use LW, but this applies to EVERY soft' I've been ever using... Read some tutorials. And then some more. And then a little more. Read thousands of tutorials. And then you'll know how to do this. NOW GET TO WORK

defense2 In reply to DarthBartus [2010-07-01 01:50:11 +0000 UTC]

oh i could do the rigging, the modeling, and the texturing... hell i have already done it, it is the animation and creating a movie using lightwave that i was refering to wishing i could do.

Further the special effects inside lightwave are not the best, as such a 3rd party program or another program all together is needed.

DarthBartus In reply to defense2 [2010-07-01 02:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Why can't you animate in LW? I find that hard to believe that LW doesn't have the ability to render whole animations.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

defense2 In reply to DarthBartus [2010-07-01 03:45:50 +0000 UTC]

It does, however the animations come out either in videos that tend to cause the computer to crash and there for the video is lost, this requires you to render the videos in short sections 1sec to 1 second pieces.

Or in frames, there for at 30 frames a second times say 60 seconds you have 1800 frames, (pictures) that need to be put into another program to turn into a video. You then need to add better special effects then what light wave holds in its built in software.

Unless there are settings i do not know about, there is no other way to render then in short videos or frame by frame. Rendering frame by frame does give you the ability to return to a set of frames that you made an error with such as picking up an object and instead of the hand going around the object the hand goes through the object.

When used in other programs the frame by frame rendering also allows you better control with special effects as you can add and or alter each frame such as adding in characters on top of existing videos or the rendered frames.

In which case you must then re render the frames with the special effects added, but this is getting into movie level production which is beyond what even this piece did.

DarthBartus In reply to defense2 [2010-07-01 11:57:52 +0000 UTC]

Believe it or not, but rendering set of frames IS a good idea. Rendering animation straight into a video file may take much time, and you can't stop rendering. And as you have said, while rendering frame-by-frame, you have much better control over effects in animation

defense2 In reply to DarthBartus [2010-07-01 13:32:41 +0000 UTC]

I do believe rendering frame by frame is the better choice, it is just a pain when you have to keep them organized and transfer them to another program to turn the frames into video then to a special effects program. (admittedly i have limited to no experience of substance in the special effects area.)

So lets just say this video by walter is cool.

Pretty slick--not to be picky, but it looks like the blue up top (pair of gauss rifles?) is a little off from where it should be coming out of the barrel.

Other than that, this is awesome!

If you could wish one mech animation done by you, it'd be the Battlemaster.

yeah don't forget gauss fire usually appart from recoil always let this little sort of dissipating light effect

Walter-NEST In reply to QMaverick [2010-06-29 16:33:10 +0000 UTC]

It might look like that they are off, but that is because of the recoil - the trails are aligned with the barrels in the moment of firing.
