Wow what an amazing blend of colors in this shot! I is incredible! (Little known fact by most people. The female Tiger Swallowtails, sometimes are black and blue. They can mimic the poisonous Pipevine Swallowtail).

Thanks! I have heard about the 'dark phase' Tigers. I often confuse them with Papilio polyxenes.

Yeah they have to much yellow on them, the mimics are black forewing, blue hind wing.

Yeah they are a drab, almost a flat black color. In the yellow phase you can tell the difference between male and female, by the blue color that the male lacks. In the dark phase that blue is about the only color on her.
