Description A crusty old carpenter who lives just outside of Sapling Village, in the Creeping Forest. Most people avoid him because of his abrasive personality and snarky attitude, but when it comes to working with wood there is no one better. For a price, he can create the finest furniture you could hope to find. Sometimes he'll work with the Merchants when business is slow, but he usually lets the customers come find him.

Occasionally, he'll venture out to Sapling Village where you can potentially trade for some of his spare creations. A great deal, compared to his usual prices.

EDIT: never made a name or a backstory for the crusty old carpenter, so here it is; the backstory of Godric the Carpenter

Godric is not native to the area around Tao Village. His father was a wealthy art collector who journied around the world with his son, buying fabulous treasures and beautiful works of art everywhere he went. Once he was old enough, Godric continued his father's art-collecting journey himself. In his travels he became familiar with a wide array of cultures; he learned about their art, their values, their beliefs, their traditions, their myths, their heritage; and somewhere along the way his journey became less about his family's collection and more about the many different people and places he saw and learned about. He picked up a few tips and techniques from each place he visited regarding their art styles, but it was in the Tao World that he finally realized his passion for woodworking.

On the day he finally wandered into Tao Village, it wasn't quite the bustling hub of guild activity it is today. It's difficult to say how long ago it was, but he was still just an adventurous young bulbasaur when he arrived. He was disappointed to find that the humble village did not have any extravagent sorts of treasures or furniture to be bought. What few pieces were available were mostly simple chairs, tables and shelves. He had seen places whose furniture only had subtle touches of a local/personal style to them before, but these- these were literaly flat pieces of wood neatly nailed together to serve some sort of function. A little annoyed, he asked if the plain, measely pieces of furniture available was really all the village had to offer, and was told that all the furniture in the village was made by one pokemon, living out in Creeping Forest.

The bulbasaur set out for the Creeping Forest, intending to preach to this so-called woodworker about the importance of art and culture. The woodworker, a Torterra, did not hesitate to bark at this arrogant little connoisseur who had the nerve to show up on his doorstep and tell him how to do his work. The two had a lot in common, particularly the harsh, biting attitudes and blatanly disrespectful bluntness. After hours of shouting arguing that no doubt drove half the forest away, the old Torterra finally challenged the snobby little art collector saying "if you think you can do better, go ahead and show me"

With that, the two developed a somewhat crude (and loud) master-apprentice relationship, as Godric stubbornly tried time and time again to learn the ways of woodworking and show this tasteless Torterra some real art, while said Torterra would stand over his disciple and bark at every little mistake the bulbasaur made. Under his master's strict guidance and his own bull-headed determination, in time Godric finally did create a beautiful piece of art that showed that Torterra once and for all how tacky his lifeless creations were. With that, the old Torterra surprised his abrassive little apprentice by proudly relinquishing his trade to the young artisan. Although he was not expecting this sudden inheritance, he gladly accepted and settled permanently in the Creeping Forest, taking over the Torterra's home when he left for who-knows-where the next day. His fame-making accomplishment, a beautiful wooden armchair (more like a throne) decorated with the images of foreign draconic pokemon of legends most of Tao Village has never even heard of, still sits by his fireplace.
