Description You were riding up ahead on your horse with Legolas, exchanging small talk. “Your father is King Thranduil, yes?” You asked. Legolas nodded, staring off into the distance. “What about your father?” He blurted out. You flinched, eyes casting down. At your silence the Elf looked at you, suddenly realizing what he had done. “O-oh, my lady, I apologize. I had merely forgotten…” He trailed off.

“It is fine, Legolas.”  You sighed. You looked up at the clouding sky, ignoring the gentle tears forming in your eyes. “My real father I knew almost nothing about… But the color of his hair was a beautiful red; like the sun rising after a long night. My foster father was a gentle and caring man, even to his death.” A small smile crept on your lips. “He made sure to always tend to every matter at hand.”

At the sound of a yelp you paused, looking back to see Gimli fall off his horse. The Dwarf was lying on his back, flailing around like a turtle. You stifled a laugh, shaking your head at his actions. Legolas cast you a gentle smile that sent your heart beating.

Night had fallen, and you were sprawled across the grass, staring up into the night sky. The warmth of your Elven companion was laid out beside you. “Legolas?” You whispered. A small hum indicated for you to proceed. “What do you think will come of the Fellowship after this is over?” You murmured softly, glancing at him.

Legolas looked calm as he met your gaze. A true picture of beauty. “I cannot say for sure, my lady… But I may only hope we survive.” He raised his hand to gently graze your cheek, still holding your stare. You smiled softly, nuzzling into the touch.

“Sleep, mellon. We have much more riding to do next sun.” The Elf whispered. You nodded and shuffled closer to him, your forehead resting against his side. “Thank you.” You close your eyes and smiled, feeling the warmth and gentleness of the Elf helped you fall asleep.

You were riding on Ahnvae, enjoying the breeze that swam around your body. It was a fairly nice evening; besides the ruin that followed you and the others. Hundreds of people walked miserly towards Helms Deep.

Your eyes watched as two guards galloped past hastily, making their way to where Legolas was. You furrowed your brows and slowly tugged on Ahnvae’s reins, slowly making your way closer to the Elf. A sudden shriek caused your horse to become unsettled, whipping her head around.

The guards! A warg and its rider were attacking the guards! Legolas jumped down from his spot, shooting an arrow square at the warg. Just as quickly he slit the throat of the rider. “A scout!” Legolas called bitterly.

Aragorn’s warning caused you to look back, watching the people panic. You grit your teeth in frustration. They would get nowhere if they flee like a flock of chickens! Ahnvae pounced over the rocks, bringing you to Legolas.

You jumped off your horse and watched the warg’s draw closer. “Go.” Legolas commanded. You glanced at the taller Elf questionably. “Go help Théoden’s people get to safety.” His blue gaze met yours. “Can I not fight?” You couldn’t help but feel betrayed that Legolas couldn’t trust you yet.

“That is not the problem, my lady. I fear that you will get harmed in this battle, and I would not be able to bear seeing that.” Legolas muttered. You cocked your head, listening to the hooves of the horses get closer. “I understand.” You mumbled.

As quick as you could be you clasped his cheeks with your hands, feeling his cool skin underneath as you pressed a chaste kiss to his lips. Legolas was undoubtingly surprised as you ran back to Ahnvae, climbing onto the saddle just as the riders came into view.

You nodded to them as you galloped in the opposite direction, towards the people of Edoras. You could feel the stare of the Elf following you until you disappeared behind the hills, calling to the homeless. “March towards Helms Deep!”

They were in a frantic, but managed to listen to you and Eowyn. You gave the human a short nod before riding off ahead of the group of people, turning around to glance back towards where the riders disappeared. “Be safe, you fool.” You whispered before turning your horse around, running up the line of people towards your destination.

Cheering and cries of joy caused your elf-ears to twitch, overlooking the hill you were riding down. “We’re finally here!” “We’re going to be okay!” “Eowyn we’re safe!” You slowly rode up to the doors, jumping off your horse as you entered. A guard took Ahnvae’s reins and brought her to a stable, leaving you to walk beside Théoden’s homeless.

There were many more woman and children, eating food that looked as if it were days past expiration. Guards flooded every hallway, their silver armor gleaming in the dull sunlight. Many cast you weird glances, questioning why an Elf would arrive with a large group of desperate humans.

You nervously started to pace, walking up stone steps, then going straight back down. Your boots clinked against the rock each time they made contact. As guards and citizens made their way past, they would glance. Of course you appeared insane, pacing, and nervously glaring at your shoes. Oh, why did you have to kiss that stupid prince?

“Make way for Théoden! Make way for the King!” You heard a call. After an hour of pacing, they returned! “Make way for an impatient Elf!” You hissed softly, rushing down the stairs. You watched from a distance as rider after rider, the fighters came in on horseback.

Eowyn had rushed to your side, looking just as frantically as you. She was looking for Aragorn. You were not blind; you had noticed the young human had strong feelings for the warrior. Your blue eyes met those of your fellow Elf, and you sighed in relief. No shit he wouldn’t be dead; Legolas is one of the best fighters of Elven kind you have had the pleasure of meeting.

The fighters started to dismount, helping the Dwarf from falling and breaking his neck. “So few… So few of you have returned.” Eowyn frowned. You glanced amongst the group, nodding softly. “This could have been avoided if I was able to help.” You spoke, shooting a glance towards Legolas. He shrugged, eyes locked tight.

“Our people are safe… We have paid for it with many lives.” Théoden spoke. “My lady.” You heard Gimli’s Scottish accent arise. He was looking at Eowyn, but indeed glanced at you. Legolas watched from a distance. “Lord Aragorn… where is he?”

You looked between them, suddenly realizing the heroic gentleman was nowhere to be seen. “He fell.” Gimli’s cracked voice caused you to stare at him in horror. You shook your head, bringing a hand up to your forehead. You could not believe Aragorn was… gone from the living.

“(Y/n)?” You glanced up at your name, meeting the eyes of Legolas. The both of you were standing amongst a room of humans, before the door to where the King lay. “How are you fairing?” He asked. You shrugged you shoulders gently, closing your eyes. “As fair as one can, knowing somebody she cares about has passed.”

Legolas placed a gentle hand on your shoulder, studying your face as you looked up at him. “I do not believe he is gone, my lady… something tells me otherwise.” A knowing smirk displayed across his lips. You frowned. “This is not a laughing matter.” You mumbled.”

Just then, a presence filled the room as your Elven companion walked away. “You’re late.” Legolas spoke to a very… familiar man. A soft smile spread across your fine lips. You knew deep inside Aragorn was harder to kill than that. “You look terrible.” Legolas scoffed, causing a large smile to break across the warrior’s face. This was a day for miracles indeed.

You slowly made your way to the pair, bowing to Aragorn. “You are quite hard to get rid of.” You teased, your eyes bright as he nodded in agreement. “It is quite a good thing I am, my lady.” He spoke as Legolas handed him Arwen’s necklace, compassion dark in his eyes at they set sight on it. Aragorn thanked the Elf before storming into the King’s chambers.

Aragorn and King Théoden were exchanging many critical words of war. You ran your right hand through your dark hair, eyeing them. If what the warrior says is true, many Uruk-hai march towards Helm’s Deep. “Ten thousand?” Théoden gapped. You even stiffened. They had a strong force now… perhaps too strong to fight against…

You glanced at Legolas in disbelief. He just softly gripped your fingers in his, staring intently at the two. “It is an army bred for a single purpose: To destroy the world of Men.” Aragorn spoke calmly. “They will be here by nightfall.” You looked towards the King for answers.

“Let them come!” King Théoden spat bitterly. You followed the three men out of the chambers and back into the heart of Helm’s Deep. After ordering for more men, he turned towards you. “You must stay with the woman and children. Keep them safe.” You were baffled.

A sudden anger caused you to twitch, bawling your fists. “I will not sit by and waste away while you all fight! I am fully capable of a battle!” You went to draw your sword, but Aragorn’s arm stopped you. The King, Gimli and Legolas glanced amongst themselves. “She is one of our best. Let her fight.” He insisted.

King Théoden sighed deeply, giving a small nod before turning around, making way through the town, barking orders. You graced your thanks to the warrior as you continued your pace to the outside of the barricades, onto the long, stone ramp. “We will cover the causeway and the gate from above.” The King directed.

“No army has ever breached the Deeping Wall or set foot inside the Hornbrug!” King Théoden appeared proud of this... Yet these are not average Orcs that will come to tear us apart. “This is no rabble of Mindless Orcs. These are Uruk-hai. Their armor is thick and their shields broad.” Gimli growled. The King stared the Dwarf down, “I have fought many wars, Master Dwarf. I know how to defend my own keep.”

You stared down the King as he made his way back inside. “The ignorance!” You hissed. Legolas’s hand gently caressed your back with a sigh, pursuing Aragorn and the King. You were now walking along the brides of the towers, barley listening. “They will break upon this fortress like water on rock. Saruman’s hordes will pillage and burn. We’ve seen it before.” King Théoden sighed as he walked down the stairs.

You looked out, across the fields, desperately trying to find the army; but to no avail. They were not in sight of your Elf eyes yet. “Within these walls, we will outlast them.” The King spoke, speaking as if there were no flaws in his words. “They do not come to destroy Rohan’s crops or villages!” Aragorn pleaded. “They come to destroy its people, down to the last child.” You nodded in agreement. Hopefully Aragorn could speak more sense into this man.

Théoden turned to look at the group with narrowed eyes, grabbing Aragorn’s collar. “What would you have me do? Look at my men! Their courage hangs by a thread.” He whispered, glaring intensely at Aragorn. “That is your own fault by dragging them across the countryside to take refuge in an easily cornered ruin.” You mumbled; low enough that the King could not hear you.

Yet he continued to speak, “If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance.” The King let go of the fighter, turning to storm away. “Send our riders, my lord!” Aragorn called. “You must call for aid.”

They met face to face again, tension high as Théoden spat. “And who will come? Elves? Dwarves?” He nodded towards you, Legolas, and Gimli. “Seems unfortunate we’re the best you have.” You hissed through barred teeth. “We are not so lucky in our friends as you. The old alliances are dead.”

“Gondor will answer.” Aragorn spoke immediately. “Gondor!?” King Théoden was outraged. “Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell? Where was Gondor when our enemies closed in around us!?” He paused, shaking his head in anger. He took a moment to calm down. “No, my Lord Aragorn…”

You sneered, crossing your arms across your chest. “…We are alone.” King Théoden turned on his heels and walked away. You wanted more than anything to grab Legolas’ bow and shoot an arrow straight into the back of the King’s head…

The guards were now sending the woman and children into the caves, taking any able man to fight. You stood off to the side, leaning against the wall. Many of the men they recruited were gaining swords and armor… But many were going to lose their lives to an unjust cause.

Aragorn made his way over to the three of you, shaking his head. “These are no soldiers.” He mumbled. “Most have seen too many winters.” Gimli sighed. “Or too few…” Legolas narrowed his eyes. “Look at them. They’re frightened. You can see it in their eyes.” “Who would not be?” You muttered, looking out across the faces of old men and young boys.

A lot of the men paused, glancing at the Elf as he started to walk away. “And they should be- Three hundred… against ten thousand!” The Elvish rolled off his tongue. “They have more hope of defending themselves here than at Edoras.” Aragorn defended the people.

“Aragorn. They cannot win this fight. They are all going to die!” You widened your eyes at Legolas, but silently agreed. “Then I shall die as one of them!” Aragorn yelled, staring down the Elf. The warrior turned and spun on his heels, walking away from them. “Let him go, lad.” Gimli whispered. “Let him be.”

You placed a gentle hand on Legolas’ shoulder, cocking your head to the exit. He followed you silently as you left the busy room, out into the darkening world. You brought him to a corner were nobody else lingered. “You are going to scare them.” You whispered as you sat on a boulder, watching as Legolas crouched before you.

“Scare them? Are they not scared enough? King Théoden has no idea what he is setting his people up for. Mellon, I can see it in your eyes…” The back of his knuckles softly caressed your cheek. “You are scared too.” Legolas mumbled. A sigh left your lips as your hand rubbed the front of his.

Your eyes met his as you let out a soft scoff. “Who would not be? We will be fighting to our deaths for a cause that could have been avoided long ago.” You whispered. “The outcome may as well be the same as what could have been.” Legolas knelt down further to look up at you, cupping your cheeks.

You sighed, leaning into his touch. “Hiril vuin, Le melin. (My lady, I love you)” Your eyes shot open at his words, lips ajar as you looked deep into Legolas’ eyes. “You lie…” You breathed out in disbelief. A small smile came from his lips as he chuckled, taking your hands in his.

“I do not lie.” Legolas insisted, leaning his forehead against yours. “This feeling… I admit I have felt it before… But never this pure. Never so… necessitous.” He whispered. You close your eyes, feeling his breath linger on your face. The elegant bastard had you in the palm of his hands.

After a few seconds of bliss, your lips met his. Legolas’ lips were hot, tender, and melted perfectly with yours. “Le melin, Legolas.” He pulled back to stare at you, a warm, loving smile etching across his porcelain skin. You did not care of the impending battle, for you have won something much greater.
