Description You sat perched on the lower branch of a tree, looking down at the bodies that could easily grab your ankle and toss you off. Soon, everyone who would accompany Frodo was made present. You hopped down from the tree; luckily you hadn’t lost your footing as you stood beside Samwise. “The Ring bearer is setting out on a quest for Mount Doom. Only you who travel with him no oath or bound is made to go further than you will.” Lord Elrond spoke. “Farewell, and hold to your purpose; may the blessings of elves, and men, and free folk go with you.”

Finally the ten of you set forth to your destination. You trailed right behind Gandalf and Frodo, watching your boots clank against the ground below. As you walked, you found yourself in an open area of grass and bushes; it made you feel naked. You found your eyes now darting from left to right, as if something would be standing in the distance. Pippin had tugged gently on your cloak, looking up to you. “You alright, my lady?” He asked.

You smiled sheepishly, nodding lightly. “I am fine. Open spaces just appear to give me anxiety.” You sighed. The hobbit gestured for you to lean down. You stopped, moving to the side so everyone else could walk as he whispered in your ear. You nodded lightly as you both now fell at the end of the group, Aragorn watching you both with curiosity. Pippin knelt down to grab two pebbles that fit perfectly in the palm of your hands. As soon as your eyes met you both ran forward, throwing both of the rocks at Gimli. “Oi!” The Dwarf yelped. Pippin had quickly hid behind Legolas, who watched with raised eyebrows. Gimli set his sights on you, grabbing the handle to his axe.

You yelped in surprise as he hurdled himself in your direction. You turned on your heels and ran towards a large boulder, kicking off your legs. You gripped onto the ledge and swung your body to the right, twisting in the air till one knee landed on the base of the rock. You turned around, looking down at Gimli. “Get down here and face my axe!” He yelled. “If I do that, I will surely be dead.” You smiled softly. “Take a joke, Gimli.” He just pouted and growled.

Gandalf had stopped to watch, chuckling lightly as he waved his hand for you to come back. You pounced from the boulder, evading Gimli with a yelp. “You will be gutted like a pig.” Gimli spat as he walked back into the formation. Pippin came out from behind Legolas, looking at Gimli in surprise. You scoffed as you followed back behind Gandalf and Frodo, feeling a weight being lift off your shoulders.

Perhaps you and Pippin could become great friends? You were dragged out of your thoughts as you caught sight of a mountain. “We must hold to this course, west of the Misty Mountains, for 40 days. If our luck holds, the Gap of Rohan will still be open to us. From there, our road turns east to Mordor.” Gandalf spoke as you all settled down. You sat on top a rock that was between Legolas and Gandalf, watching Boromir train Pippin and Merry.

“If anyone was to ask for my opinion, which I note they’re not, I’d say we were taking the long way ‘round.” You glanced to your left, watching as Gimli glared at Gandalf. “Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin Balin would give us a royal welcome.” You scoffed lightly, leaning forward to stare at the dwarf. “A royal welcome like you had given to me?” You mocked. “No, Gimli. I would not take the road through Moria unless I had no other choice.” Gandalf cut you off.

Legolas started to strut quickly in front of you all, jumping over a few rocks to stare into the distance. You watched the elf with curiosity, observing his every movement with interest. Your eyes looked up, staring at a mass forming in the distance. “Clouds?” You whispered to yourself. The sound of Boromir and Pippin training distracted your sense of hearing. Your eyes glanced at amusement as the two hobbits pounced on the warrior, bringing him down.

Samwise’s attention had been caught by the strange form in the clouds, bringing you back to reality. “What is that?” He asked. “Nothing. It’s just a wisp of cloud.” Gimli answered. “It’s moving fast… Against the wind.” Boromir observed, standing up to stare as well. You stood up, walking over to stand beside Legolas. He looked down at you, staring at you for a few heart beats before you looked back. “What do you make of this, Legolas?”

Legolas seemed to be caught off guard by your question, but regained posture as he looked back at the sky. “I do not know…” He spoke, before his eyes widened. “Crebain from Dunland!” Legolas pounced off the rock, grabbing your wrist as he did so. “Hide!” Aragorn ordered. You squeaked in surprise, following Legolas as the others scrambled. “Hurry! Take cover!” Others called. Legolas dragged you under a thick bush across from him, glancing from you to the skies. You froze, staring at the sand covered ground as the sound of birds and wings flapping over took your hearing.

You finally brought your blue gaze to the sky, watching the birds wildly fly around where you all were hidden. You bit the inside of your lip. Did they see us? You thought, glancing towards Legolas with a concerned look. He looked back at you and nodded, his face making you feel rather comforted and safe. Finally the sound died down, and everyone crawled out of their hiding spots to look up towards the sky.

“Spies of Saruman.” Gandalf spoke. You turned around to jog back up to them, narrowing your eyes. “Saruman…” You hissed lowly. “The passage south is being watched… We must take the Pass of Caradhras.” Everyone looked up towards the mountains, and from your spot you could see snow plagued the ridges. You shivered, shaking your head.

You hugged yourself as you forced your body through the heavy snow that swallowed your ankle down. “Frodo!” Boromir called. You looked back to see the young hobbit roll backwards, Aragorn catching him. You narrowed your eyes as Boromir picked something up, moving slightly to catch better sight. The ring. You stiffened, “Boromir.” Aragorn spoke. “It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing…” Boromir whispered. “Such a little thing…”

Aragorn narrowed his eyes in defense, whilst Frodo stood there, looking frightened. “Boromir! Give the ring to Frodo.” He commanded. Boromir started to walk towards the two of them, his movements hesitant. “As you wish.” He said, holding out the necklace that held the ring. Frodo quickly swiped the ring, holding it to him. You and the others watched silently.

“I care not.” Boromir chuckled nervously and ruffled Frodo’s hair, turning around to face us. You gave a worried glance before turning around, nodding to the others. You all finally started pace again through the snow that grew thicker and thicker. “We’re going to get consumed by all this snow.” Merry muttered. You scoffed, “Just call for us if the snow monsters decide to eat you.” You teased.

You pulled your cloak over your shoulders in hope it would give you warmth as snow whisked violently past you. It appeared to be a blizzard Gandalf was having you all walk through. You paused at a voice that echoed from around you. “There is a fell voice on the air!” Legolas called. You looked at the elf, walking up beside him to hear closer. “It’s Saruman!” Gandalf yelled.

A loud noise from up top the mountain caused everyone’s gaze to follow up. “The mountain!” You gasped. You and Legolas jumped backwards, against the mountain walls as large rocks fell in front of everyone. “He’s trying to bring down the mountain! Gandalf, we must turn back!” Aragorn called. “I agree! It is too dangerous to go through with this path!” You called desperately. “No!” Gandalf spat.

Gandalf started some kind of chant, yelling out towards the blizzard. You stood there, your heart pounding in your chest; but you held a face that would contradict your feelings. Frost had gathered on your eyebrows and eyelashes, and your lips felt chap. You long, black hair was bridled with snow that appeared to never stop. You glanced at the others, forcing a small, reassuring smile towards the hobbits.

You almost jumped out of your skin as lightning struck the top of the mountain, causing it to shake. Seconds felt like minutes as you whipped your head up. “Get back!” You yelped. Snow came tumbling down as you felt a strong arm snake around your waist, hastily bashing you up against the mountain wall. Snow tumbled down on top of everyone, the force causing you to grit your teeth.

Your heart was pounding like crazy as you felt panic set in, your arms flailing at the snow. Air. You needed air. The arm around you disappeared as your head resurfaced, shaking the snow from your hair. Legolas’s head popped up beside you, looking around till his sights set on you. “Are you alright, (y/n)?” He asked. You nodded lightly. “I am. Thank you, Legolas.”

The both of you crawled out of the snow, making sure everybody else was resurfaced. “Everyone appears to be alright.” You sighed in relief. Boromir glared at Gandalf, who looked back at the group. “We must get off the mountain! Make for the Gap of Rohan, and take the west road to my city!” The warrior pleaded. “The Gap of Rohan takes us too close to Isengard!” Aragorn argued.

“We cannot pass over a mountain. Let us go under it! Let us go through the Mines of Moria.” Gimli spoke. You glanced at the dwarf, stiffening. You weren’t certain on your feelings for being underground, for you never have been. Gandalf paused for a moment, eyes landing on Frodo. “Let the Ring-bearer decide.” Frodo looked unsure as he glanced at Sam. “Frodo?” Gandalf pressed. “We will go through the mines.” Frodo decided. “So be it.”
