Description Achoo!

You quickly hid your face in the nook of your elbow to cover the blow of your sneeze. Everyone had practically jumped out of their skins as they stared at you. A light blush crept to your pale skin as you eyed them, mouthing a small ‘sorry’.

Gandalf had brought you and the company up long rock stairs to a small plateau leading into three different corridors. Beautifully designed symbols were carved into the rock doors. Even if the carvings kept your mind off of what lurked in the shadows for a mere blink of an eye, Gandalf presenting everyone with the fact he hadn’t remember where to go disappointed you.

Your eyes met with Boromir and Aragorn, the three of you shrugging with a deep sigh. “Are we lost?” A sudden voice whispered. “No.” “I think we are…” Pippins hissed. “Shh, Gandalf’s thinking.” Merry urged. You glanced across the open space to look at the Hobbits.

“Merry?” Pippin whispered. “What?” The hobbit replied. “I’m hungry.” He whimpered. You raised an eyebrow, leaning forward to rest your elbows on your knees. “You are going to get used to not having a meal every time it’s needed. Your stomach growling will soon be the only thing you hear.” You grumbled.

A small chuckle came from Boromir as the two warriors glanced back at your conversation. Legolas looked at you with a raised eyebrow; his intake on an amused face. “I’m sure (Y/n) is a great cook! She can make us something special after this whole ring ordeal is over.” Merry smiled. Pippin looked at you with wide eyes. “Ya think so?!”

You leaned back, flabbergasted at their words. After a few heart beats of not finding your voice, you close your eyes with a simple sigh. “Perhaps I will bake the finest cake Middle Earth has ever witnessed?” You teased- quirking an eyebrow at the duo.

All the while Gandalf and Frodo were whispering amongst themselves. You smiled at Merry and Pippin as they high fived at the thought of cake. Legolas scoffed where he stood, blue eyes scanning you. “Will you not share the cake with the others? Or do the Hobbits get to celebrate alone?” You could hear the light quip lace in his words.

“I would love nothing more than to bake for my fellow friends. Especially for the Elven Prince himself.” You cast him a fox like grin before turning your attention towards the conversation to your upper right. “Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo?” Gandalf asked. You swore you could hear the toxin flow from his voice.

It was then and there that you truly wanted to know everything about the old wizard. He appeared so wise and fruitful; he must have merry a story to share. You continued to watch in silence, for the conversation intrigued your mind. “Do not be too eager to deal out death and judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends.”

Even the very wise cannot see all ends. That phrase in particular rung wildly in your head. For what reason? You do not know. “My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before this is over.” Gandalf spoke of a creature your parents used to tell you about to keep you in line as a kid. You now know the technicalities of Gollum, and you fear whether or not you pity or are sickened by him.

You turned your attention toward Aragorn and Boromir as they waved you over. With a small exhale you stood up, skipping over the jagged rocks as you joined them, sitting beside Aragorn. “What do you make out of all this?” Boromir asked. “Of what? This sketchy excuse for a mine?” You sneered. Being stuck underground was rotting your sensibility.

Gimli glared at you, all the fires of hell burning a crisp hole through your body. “I see you are not used to confined spaces.” Aragorn muttered, taking a drag from his pipe. “Or open spaces!” Pippin whispered from where he sat. You glared at them both, huffing your frustrations. “I happen to enjoy environments like forests. They remind me of…” You trailed off for a moment. “Simpler times.”

A loud ‘ah’ caused everyone to jump, your hand lingering on the hilt of your sword. Everyone looked at you in entertainment. Blast! Another thing they can tease me for. I cannot be blamed for quick or irrational thinking… “It’s that way!” Gandalf smiled innocently. “He’s remembered!” Merry chimed. “No. But the air doesn’t smell so foul down here.” You smiled lightly at the wizard. “If in doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose.”

You followed behind Aragorn and Boromir, feeling the warmth of Legolas behind you. The walk down the stairs was difficult, hobbits tripping over every crack and residue the stone steps laid waste. You even found yourself caught off guard when your boot would slip; but you always had the fellow elf behind you to steady your posture.

The long trek down the enclosed steps brought you to a much more open area. There were many broken, large columns scattered around. Gandalf’s light and the torch Boromir held opened up to the intricate designs made on every inch of the walls. “Let me risk a little more light.” Gandalf muttered.

You could hear the gasps of admiration from several of the members, but you held your tongue. It was indeed amazing, but you could marvel in silence. “Behold… the great realm and Dwarf-city of Dwarrowdelf.” The wizard held his staff high so the light could reach even the furthest peaks of darkness.

Thousands of columns lay attached to both floor and ceiling, leading corridors far into the abyss. You shuddered as a cold draft whisked past. You watched as Gimli was sucked into a hole of pure bliss, eyes never missing a beat of rock. Your eyes met Legolas, shrugging at each other. What was the appeal of a bunch of rocks? Dwarves.

“There’s an eye opener, and no mistake.” Samwise breathed out. Everyone continued to stride through the pillars with silent ease. Oh, how you missed the trees. You sighed out in low frustration, refusing to meet the curious eyes that glimpsed back at your figure. Instead, you ran a hand through your black mane.

A sudden groan caused everyone to stop. Your Elf eyes watched as Gimli ran towards a small opening, bodies lay scattered around. He avoided stepping on any of the skeletons as Gandalf called out his name. “Stubborn Dwarf.” You hissed. You followed in slow pursuit as a choked sob left Gimli’s throat. “No…”

Gimli was on one knee once you entered. You moved off to the right, overlooking the grieving Dwarf. Even for your hostility towards his kind, you felt a pang of grief wrench your heart. You looked on in silence. “Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria... He is dead, then.” Gandalf’s eyes washed over you and your fellow companions.

The wizard took his hat off as he sighed. “It’s as I feared.” You continued listening to Gimli’s cries, your blue eyes casting down as Gandalf picked up a dusty book, pages and dirt falling from it. Pippin took a few steps back, holding on to Gandalf’s staff and hat. You raised your dark eyebrows in interest.

“We must move on. We cannot linger.” Legolas growled. You suddenly felt something deep inside your chest, the same feeling your fellow Elf must have. “They have taken the bridge and the second hall.” Gandalf started reading from the book. “We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes. Drums… Drums in the deep.” He flipped a page slowly. “We cannot get out. A shadow moves in the dark.”

You watched as everyone started to cautiously look about, fear settling into their hearts. “We cannot get out. They are coming.” Gandalf’s eyes met yours and a shiver went down your spine. You looked at Legolas and Aragorn, trying to hide the panic in your eyes.

A crash caused you to draw your sword, aiming it to your right. Your hues widened at Pippin, who stood at what appeared to be a well, the head of a skeleton missing. He looked frightened. Just as soon as everyone whipped around, the rest of the body fell, followed by a chained, wooden bucket. You hastily shoved your sword back into your scabbard. “Pippin!” You hissed in frustration.

The young hobbit looked at you, then back at Gandalf, unsure of what to do. The sound continued for many seconds, your heartbeat like a drum. Silence once again took over the room. Some sighed in relief, but you knew better. Something was coming.

Gandalf closed the book, rounding on Pippin. “Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity!” The wizard grabbed his belongings from the hobbit. You laid a gentle hand on your friend before your whole body froze. A distant bang sounded. Then another. Remote screeching could be heard; but it felt much louder to your sensitive ears.

Your eyes now lay on the door, bracing yourself for what may come. “Orcs!” Legolas spat. The feeling in your chest expanded to panic as your hand gracefully gripped the hilt of your sword, spreading your legs to a defensive stance as you eyed the door. Boromir ran towards the door, wasting no time to pinpoint the enemy.

“Get back! Stay close to Gandalf!” Aragorn pushed the Hobbits back, discarding his torch. Legolas looked at you, furrowing his brows. “My lady, I do believe y-” “Please, Legolas. I am no mere child or maiden. I can take care of myself.” You insisted. He hesitated before nodding, letting you go. You smirked to yourself, finding a cocky attitude within. Now was the time to show these boys why you deserved the name Female Warrior.

Aragorn and Boromir closed the door, adding axes to the handles to keep the Orcs out. Legolas threw them one or two for safety as they placed those with the others. They all backed away, Legolas and Aragorn drawing their bow as everyone else unsheathed their swords.

You breathed through your nose, trying to calm your senses. Never have you fought with Orcs. You tried to sustain yourself from jumping as the creatures started to bang on the doors. An elf is never afraid. Gimli stood up with a growl, standing on top of the tomb with an axe in one hand. “Let them come!” He snarled.

“There is one Dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath.” Gimli readied himself with a growl. You glanced back at the Hobbits to make sure all was well before turning your attention to the door. The tip of various weapons broke through the doors, the swish of two arrows blocking out the silence as they hit two of your enemies.

Your feet stayed grounded as the Orcs broke through. “Stay brave, (Y/n).” You whispered to yourself as they ran at your comrades.  Arrows continued to fly until they broke through the lines. You growled as you brought your sword down, swiping into an Orc’s side till he flew into the tomb.

With a quick twirl you tripped another, smashing his head beneath your boot as you took the head off of another foul Orc. You noticed the Hobbits had joined the fight, but you paid no heed as more Orcs came your way. You jumped backwards as a loud crash sounded, looking up at the door.

A large Orc came fumbling through, a chain continued to his neck to keep him from going astray. He held a boulder that was shaped into a club in his right hand. He screamed a low, gutting growl as he continued into the room. Legolas shot an arrow, but the creature just shrieked and started to hurl his club around.

You jumped back, twisting to meet your sword with an Orc’s. You hustled for a second before dropping to your knees, in a split second you were back up, your sword through the Orc’s head. Dislodging your weapon you continued to kick and slice at Orcs, jumping up a cleft to survey the battle.

As quickly as you had knelt you were back down on the ground, stabbing your blade through an Orc’s face. With as much power as you could muster you ripped through the skull and into another creature’s shoulder and through its throat. You dropped and rolled when an Orc threw itself at you. You kicked it square in its jaw, causing the Orc to snap its neck.

When you stood back up you noticed the large Orc whipping its chain and club at Legolas, who was on the cleft. As you dodged the blade of another Orc, you struck out with your sword, earning a lengthy wound on the side of the big creature. It shrieked and led Legolas enough time to hop on its shoulder, aiming his bow down.

An arrow shot down into the Orc’s head, shattering to pieces. It shrieked and immediately started to fumble and falter, screeching as the Elf jumped off his ride. You flashed him a light smile before smashing your sword between the eyes of an Orc. Was there no end to these vile creatures?

The large Orc broke free from his chain, ungracefully charging at another victim. You heard the Hobbits scream, causing your head to jerk up. Just as you did, an Orc tripped you, causing you to violently fall onto your back. With a gasp, you flung your sword up, shielding yourself from its weapon. You grinded your teeth at the pressure before you noticed an arrow go through the Orc’s head.

You looked at the culprit and nodded in thanks, quick to get to your feet. Legolas twirled around and continued to shoot arrows, running in different directions. You punched your way through a wall of Orcs, cursing under your breath. You finally lashed your blade out, ripping open a stomach before kicking the body down onto another Orc.

A particularly loud scream had you looking back once again. Aragorn had put an axe through the lower rib cage of the large creature. You twisted and sliced open another Orc, letting it drop lifeless. A sudden change in the air had you staring at Frodo. Your breath was caught in your throat as the Orc stabbed him in the chest.

“Frodo!” You called desperately. Merry and Pippin jumped on its back as you punched another Orc, stabbing it through the abdomen. You felt anger bubble through your veins as you sliced the head off of an Orc, growling at it like it was prey. How could you let Frodo get hurt!?

Your attention was called back at the whimper of the large Orc. An arrow was through its throat, lodged up into the brain. It felt at its face before it fell over, dead. The Hobbit on the Orc’s back was thrown off, grunting in surprise. You finally felt less tense as you glared around. Every enemy was now presumed dead.

You watched from a distance as Aragorn grabbed Frodo, hoisting him up. He gagged and wheezed, and you sighed in relief. He was alive. “He’s alive.” Sam said to Gandalf. “I’m all right. I’m not hurt.” Frodo confirmed. “You should be dead. That spear would have skewered a wild boar.” Aragorn said in astonishment.

“I think there’s more to this Hobbit than meets the eye.” Gandalf spoke, walking slowly towards the small group. He revealed a beautiful, silver armor lay under his tunic. “Mithril.” Gimli whispered. “You are full of surprises, Master Baggins.” The Dwarf smiled.

Distant screeches could be heard as you glanced around. “More Orcs.” You hissed. You could hear their armor clanking as they made their way towards the room. “To the Bridge of Khazad-dum!” Gandalf ordered. As soon as the words were spoken bodies darted out and into the open corridors once again.

You followed suit behind Boromir, glancing back every so often to make sure the Hobbits were in line. Many Orcs had started to give chase, some even foaming down from the ceilings. “This way!” Gandalf called. You silently pledged you would follow The Fellowship of The Ring to the death.

Orcs were even appearing out of cracks in the floor! Abruptly you were all surrounded by jeering and hideous Orcs. You took your blade out, holding it firmly as you eyed the disgusting creatures. Everybody’s attention was brought to the large growl of another creature, orange illuminating a far away hallway.

All the Orcs seemed to panic as they scurried away, crying and whimpering in their high-pitched manner. You glanced at everyone in worry and curiosity. Gimli glanced up at you in silence before looking back towards the fleeing Orcs with a laugh. “What could make such vile creatures run with their tails tucked between their hinds?” You whispered. The growl sounded more as the light came closer and closer- slowly.

“What is this new devilry?” Boromir mumbled into Gandalf’s ear. The wizard stayed silent for many moments, his back turned to you, preventing you from seeing his face. “A Balrog; a demon of the ancient world…” You curled your fingers around your sword.

Gandalf straightened his back as you heard the Hobbits gulp in pure terror. “This foe is beyond any of you.” He turned slowly towards everyone before yelling, “Run!” He commanded. You turned on your heels and fled in the opposite direction, praying everyone would remain safe.
