Description You, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli were on the Orc’s trail for days now. Rarely did you rest; but that wasn’t a problem for you. Your stamina was high given the Elven blood running through your veins, and the undying need to rescue your Hobbit friends.

Gimli’s grunting of displeasure and overall panting was one of the only things you could hear as you jogged behind Legolas and Aragorn. You’ve been running through open fields of grass and rock for what seemed like ages now. You wanted more than nothing to be surrounded by trees, and that was evident at how cat-like you moved. You were hesitant, eyes darting around constantly.

You ran up a hill, casting your glance back at the Dwarf who was trying his hardest to catch up. Aragorn planted himself on to a rock, laying his ear against it. He was a master tracker, after all. “Their pace has quickened.” He whispered.

Aragorn started to stand up, “They must have caught our scent. Hurry!” He called, running forward. You groaned, jumping over a rock to follow closer. “Come on, Gimli!” Legolas urged. You glanced back with a giggle, watching the Dwarf fumble over the hillside, wheezing for air.

“Three days and nights pursuit. No food. No rest… And no sign of our quarry, but what bare rock can tell.” Gimli growled. You smiled brightly back at him, running backwards as you laughed. “Think of Merry and Pippin’s faces when we arrive to rescue them! It is worth all the gold in Erebor!” You twirled and continued a fast pace.

Gimli scoffed at you, but you noticed your enthusiasm wore on the Dwarf as he picked up pace. You continued running deep into the day, smiling whenever you thought of saving your beloved friends. You were to be a true hero, and a true friend.

You pounced over rocks as you ran downhill, blue eyes intent on the beautiful scenery. Mountains of rocky and grassy terrain as far as an Elves’ eyes could lie forth. Your excitement had you bubbling, running faster than Aragorn or Legolas.

The Fellowship found their way into a small valley layered with hay. You waited for Gimli to catch up, patting his back with a small laugh. “You amaze me, how optimistic you are that we can actually find them.” The Dwarf grunted. You shrugged, putting your hands on your hips. “Someone has to be.”

Aragorn quickly caught sight of something, kneeling down to pick it up. It was the pendent that was clipped to your cloak! “Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall…” Legolas looked down at Aragorn. “They may yet be alive.” He stated.

Your blue eyes met Legolas’s in determination. “Less than a day ahead of us. Come.” Aragorn started a quick stride once again. You pounced on your heels and followed; eager as ever. “Come, Gimli!” You waved, the Dwarf snarling as he darted after you, rolling down a hill in the process.

Putting your hand up to your mouth you tried to stifle your laugh, shoulders cackling in amusement. “Come, Gimli, (Y/n)! We’re gaining on them!” Legolas called, glancing at the both of you. Forgetting about the Dwarf you hurdled forward, easily passing the Elf. Your stamina was off the charts.

“I’m wasted on cross-country! We Dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!” You could hear Gimli yell behind you. You just grinned fully, clenching your fists. You would not rest until you found Merry and Pippin.

You climbed a large set of rocks, standing to the side of Aragorn. You glanced up at him and Legolas, brows furrowed as you overlooked the plain grass assaulted with growing boulders. “Rohan… Home of the Horse-lords.” Aragorn breathed.

Gimli slowly climbed beside you, out of breath as Aragorn continued an introduction of the land. “There’s something strange at work here.” You suddenly felt it too, deep in your chest. “Some evil gives speed to these creatures. Sets its will against us.”

You stood up top the large granite, narrowing your eyes in the sun. Legolas had climbed down and was now on ground ahead of you. “Legolas!” Aragorn called. “What do your Elf-eyes see?” Legolas didn’t hesitate to speak what you also saw. “The Uruks turn northeast. They are taking the Hobbits to Isengard!”

You felt your heart sink at the words, shaking your head bitterly. Isengard must be heavily guarded by thousands if not millions of Orcs. The four of you would stand absolutely no chance against Saruman and his army.

“Saruman…” Aragorn sighed. “We must hurry! If we flee quickly, we may catch up to them!” You growled. Taking Aragorn’s short nod as confirmation, you pounced down the boulder, cloak flying up as you landed hastily. You ran up to Legolas, looking him deep in the eyes before continuing onward.

You ran through night, only stopping for a few minutes for Gimli to regain his breath to continue. Finally, day break came once more, and you couldn’t help but hear the faintest of multiple footsteps pounding in the distance. It was far, too far for Gimli to hear; too far for Aragorn to hear unless he concentrated on his tracking skills.

Legolas looked at you, and you both nodded in unison. Whatever it was, whether it Orcs or an ally, you did not know. But there were many, and they were moving with haste. “They’ve run as if the very whips of their masters were behind them.” He spoke. You nodded, staring off into the distance. “They may as well be.”

The heat was wearing down on you as sweat dripped down your forehead. But the sun soon fell once more, leaving you in the turmoil of dark. You were never comfortable with the idea of being tired and in the middle of open spaces during the pitch of dark.

You expected Aragorn to call for everyone to rest, but he hadn’t. You continued onward, slower than originally intended so Gimli could jog heavily beside you. The darkness made your eyes gleam, intent on never missing movement.

“I hope they are alright.” You whispered more or less to yourself. Legolas looked at you, studying your face. “I cannot say, but I am sure they have put up quite the fight.” He offered. You smiled weakly at him, continuing to stride.

You didn’t keep track of time as the day started to appear. “A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night.” Legolas whispered. You flinched at his words, looking up at the red sky. You silently prayed your friends were safe and sound.

The sound of a horse neighing caught you off guard, causing the Fellowship to halt in their tracks. The sun had finally risen in the sky, giving you enough sight to finally notice the heard of men on their horses. Aragorn gestured onward, and you followed stealthily.

You leaned against a rock, pressing against your friends as you watched the horses gallop pass, the men making no attempt to have given you the notion they saw you. Aragorn glanced back before getting up, walking forward and out into the blue. “Riders of Rohan! What news from the Mark?” He called.

Hesitantly you followed the three of them, glancing down the hill as the riders turned, looking up. They started to circle you, horses snorting as they galloped. You stood shoulder to hip with Legolas and Gimli; packed into a small space.

The riders circling you drew their spears, aiming it inches away from your faces. You scoffed silently, fingers lingering for the hilt of your sword. “What business does an Elf, a man, a Dwarf, and a woman have in the Riddermark?” A man growled as his horse pushed past the others.

You eyed him, growling out Elvish curses. Aragorn glared at you, shaking his head. “Give me your name, horse-master, and I shall give you mine.” Gimli’s Irish accent spat. You nodded in approval, glaring daggers at the rider. He jumped down from his horse, walking up to the Fellowship.

“I would cut off your head, Dwarf.” The horse-rider growled, eyeing him. “If it stood but a little higher from the ground.” You smirked lightly at the man, raising a keen eyebrow. He caught your glance before glaring at Aragorn. Legolas quickly took out his bow, readying an arrow right at the man’s face. “You would die before your stroke fell.” He hissed.

You stiffened, glancing at your Elven companion. Aragorn’s hand gently lowered Legolas’s bow, staring at him with disapproval. “Not a very lovely first introduction we’re having here.” You whispered, sighing in frustration. You were losing precious time you could be off chasing after Pippin and Merry.

The man’s green eyes were now studying your form, raising his eyebrows in interest. “I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn. This is Gimli, son of Gloin, (Y/n), daughter of the Walstow people, and Legolas of the Woodland Realm.” Aragorn introduced. You flinched at his words, leveling your eyes with the ground.

“Walstow…” The man muttered. He had heard of the destruction of the sutcrofts. “We are friends of Rohan and of Theoden, your king.” The man cast his eyes down before regaining posture. “Theoden no longer recognizes friend from foe.” He took off his metal helmet. “Not even his own kin.”

You narrowed your blue eyes thoughtfully at the man. The spears were lifted and you breathed a sigh of relief. “Saruman has poisoned the mind of the king and claimed lordship over these lands. My company are those loyal to Rohan. And for that, we are banished.” You looked around at all the men on their horses, humming lowly.

“Foolish of him to banish such a company of powerful warriors.” You spoke, staring him in the eyes. The rider nodded, holding your gaze. You felt Legolas shift uncomfortably beside you at the intense staring. He finally turned to Aragorn, “The White Wizard is cunning. He walks here and there, they say, as an old man hooded and cloaked.” He looked at you once more.

You wanted to speak, to make a fool of the White Wizard, but you kept silent as his gaze found its way back to Aragorn. “And everywhere, his spies slip past our nets.” “We are no spies.” Aragorn confirmed. “We track a part of Uruk-hai westward across the plain. They have taken two of our friends’ captive.”

The rider shifted uncomfortably at his words. “The Uruks are destroyed. We slaughtered them during the night.” You perked up at his words. “Two Hobbits! Did you see two Hobbits?” You pleaded. His eyes met yours, and before he spoke you knew the words that would leave his lips. “We left none alive.” Your shoulders slumped in defeat.

“We piled the carcasses and burned them.” He pointed eastwards. You didn’t dare look as you stared blankly at your boots. “Dead?” Gimli roughly whispered. You flinched involuntarily at his question. “I am sorry.” The man muttered.

At the sound of a whistle and names, you looked back up. Three horses were brought to the four of you. “May these horses bear you to better fortune than their former masters. Farewell.” The man went back onto his own horse, looking down. “Look for your friends. But do not trust to hope; it has forsaken these lands.” He spoke, quickly departing with the rest of his party.

You pounced onto the back of the black horse, holding onto the straddle well. You looked down in disappointment as the four of you started towards the smoke billowing in the air. As soon as you mounted near the smoking corpses, you jumped off your horse.

Panic set in as you paced around the pile several times, trying to pick out what would look like Pippin or Merry. You barred your teeth in frustration, kicking lightly at the dirt. “It’s one of their wee belts.” You heard Gimli say. You whirled around, storming over to him with wide eyes.

“No…” You whispered, clutching your tunic in fear. Legolas whispered a soft word in Elvish. Aragorn kicked a helmet, falling to his knees with a scream of fury. You stood there, turning your back to the Fellowship as tears slipped from your eyes.

The Dwarf spoke lowly, “We failed them.” You bit your lip, pulling your face into the nook of your elbow as you sobbed. You felt the reassuring hands of Legolas slip onto your shoulders. “A Hobbit lay here.” Aragorn whispered. “And the other.”You glanced to your left, watching him silently.

You didn’t want to hear of their final struggles. “Aragorn.” You whimpered. The warrior made no attempt to stop as he continued crawling, feeling the dry dirt. He sat back on his hunches, narrowing his eyes in concentration.  “They crawled.”

Aragorn continued his crouching, moving forward slowly. “Their hands were bound.” At this point he had gotten up and started to walk. You hesitantly followed behind them. A piece of thick rope ambushed with hay now lay in Aragorn’s hands.

You narrowed your eyes, cocking your head. “Their bonds were cut… They ran over here.” Aragorn was now hastily moving, turning and twisting as his eyes saw what your mind refused to see. “They were followed.” He started to jog, eyes never leaving the tracks. “By an Orc.” You whispered, staring down at the trail.

“The tracks lead away from the battle!” Aragorn bolted forward. You felt yourself freeze, staring at them in disbelief. Shaking your head, clearing your train of thought, you bolted past Legolas and Gimli. You stood in front of a large forest, and you felt your breath catch in your throat.

Gimli shook his head. “…Into Fangorn Forest.” Aragorn finished. You came up and stood beside Legolas, forgetting about the tales of the forest. “We could be right behind them!” You squealed, unable to contain your excitement as you beamed at the Fellowship. “We can save Merry and Pippin!”
