First in a series based on the story of Henrietta Lacks and her cells:

"A HeLa cell is...the oldest and most commonly used human cell line. The line was derived from cervical cancer cells taken from Henrietta Lacks, a patient who eventually died of her cancer on October 4, 1951."

I'm going to add my guess to the pile: A hard, clear plastic tube with water coming out of it and a white colored pencil held in the stream. Or, after reading the FB link...a test tube with water coming out of it, in a plastic test tube rack.

However, even after reading the linked wiki article I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with the HeLa cells. Maybe referring to their nature to divide and overflow rapidly?

Yes, the FB link tells all And yes, it's probably a little too abstract, but it's supposed to represent its frightening ability to reproduce/fill test tubes (literally) and cause such a massive "splash" in the scientific community

woohoo, lookit me being a good guesser. Yeah, I was reading the contamination section of the wiki and all I could think of is how it must have been so sad to be her, it must have taken her very quickly. That combination of circumstances probably meant that she had little chance of fighting off the cancer.

A test tube? In a holder?
Really cool photo, I love the shapes in the liquid.

Kudos, Michelle! Beside the fact that this image contains a lot of detail to explore (and your favorite medium - water!), it causes the viewer to wonder what the subject really is. In my opinion, any image that creates that kind of wonder is a winner. I like this a lot. Nice work!
