Scapolite had returned to Earth after the Rebellion to collect Gem fragments for research from the Prime Kindergarten, since she knew a battle had taken place there recently. Citrine and Amethyst's gemstones were mostly intact, and since the Synthetic Gem process hadn't been refined at all yet, they were simply melted together in a rather crude fashion. The result was Ametrine, a friendly, though strange-looking Synthetic Fusion Gem.
Scapolite couldn't bring her back to Homeworld, as she'd come back to the planet in secrecy, so Ametrine remains at the Prime Kindergarten today. The two were best friends, so its not the worst that could've happened, right?
