If you asked Deerhead about his relationship with Thatch, he'd likely shrug and say, "she's my second-in-command, what do you expect?" A very simple answer yet could not further from the truth, for a secret hides behind their closed doors. The romantic relationship between the two can be summarized with the word "uncertain," as their love life is filled with questions and unclear motives.

Deerhead, most of the time, is incredibly passive toward Thatch's advances. He'll gently push her away, tilt himself in the other direction should she lean in, or downright pretend not to see it. There is no agitation or annoyance in his actions, just exhausted rejection. The rare times he's affectionate toward Thatch depends entirely on his mood. The only way he'll return the gestures to her is if he's already in a joyful attitude, his happiness being the only barrier between them. Should Thatch catch him on a good day, he'll gladly interlock their arms, dance and laugh with her, and hold one another during the cold nights. He also, occasionally, returns her advances during sadder mood swings, where vulnerability seizes him and a desperation to be held clings on. The truth is, Deerhead yearns for love just as she does, yet he's unsure of how to express himself as insecurity has pushed down his emotions.

Thatch is immensely affectionate with Deerhead every chance she gets, taking on a playful demeanor whenever they find themselves in privacy. She pays little mind to the "soft rejection" faced more often than not, fiercely clinging to the belief that he'll "eventually come around." Thatch is somewhat misguided in believing she can "convince" Deerhead into loving her by persistence alone, never backing down no matter how many times her advances are ignored. The few times Deerhead is affectionate back become treasured memories, the desire to create even more special time together being her only motivation. Despite her minuscule understanding of the concept of love, she wants nothing more than to cherish every little moment and time they spend together. The desire to be special further intensifies her feelings, a craving for attention that drives her every move.

Despite all uncertainties, puzzling feelings, mood swings, and insecurities, there is no denying they undoubtedly love one another. With no one else to turn to, the two warlords latched onto one another, forming a vicious bond to rule the Deor Kingdom.

(The most challenging part of Deerhead's design is absolutely his four extra deer limbs that come out of his ribs. I drew them here tucked in, as having all four of them out would've cluttered up the drawing.)
