Description

not a colored sketch for once!~ yay~ (even though I was so lazy with the lineart and everything)

This song right here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNioG5… gives one so many feels, especially if they watched 'Romeo and Juliet'...;_; Carat and Cell are like my Romeo and Juliet dude...only they don't die tragicly.

Did some crappy trees/bushes in the background, they're whichever your heart desires. ;w; I didn't want to shade the petals either, and the coloring for some reason shifted from the lineart a bit, uwahuhuhu...;;

Carat and Cell are my PPG ocs, they belong to me. -w-;;

YES AND I LOVE IT...

AAAAAAH WHAAAAT??! Omg now I actually can look forward to school lol... I don't have anything that exciting.. I've been mainly focusing a lot on my style and technique! I have to start creating my college portfolio! Aaaah!

ahhh, I look forward to seeing you too! XD I really miss my old house, where we could meet at the park and stuff. ._. but cool! yeah, me too, I'm mainly focusing on my applications for the other art schools, some of them really go far...they ask for filled sketchbooks and drawings, wryyyy... I'm focusing mostly on digital for SCAD, all of the traditional I'll take from school projects. I bet it looks great~ it must have been really helpful to get their feedback at SCAD too. >w<

I knowwww... I walk by it every morning when we take the dogs to the park to run): it makes me sad to see our tree and not be able to go sit under it together!

Really??? Can I ask which schools you're applying to??? ... SCAD is my number one.. I've actually already sumbited the initial application!! (Scary!) And behind that is Ringling College of Art & Design in Florida which I was actually very very impressed with.. Besides that however, I'm scared! I need to do more research! Haha.. I can't wait to tell you all about SCAD.. It was everything I hoped it would be

yeah, the place I live isn't as pretty as the other house, and I think only Ceslie lives close to me...? ;w;

Sure! one is CalArts, or California institute of the Arts- I heard it's a really awesome animation school, but they also have schools of Dance and music there, so if you want to go into character animation, you have to take acting classes too, apparently...?? -w- I saw Ringling too, still deciding about going to that one, but I like the area and the school size. they have a good 3D animation program, but I have to look more to see if there's any 2D or anything else I can major/minor in. Then there's RISD, Rhode Island School of Design. It's a bit like SCAD, but one thing that turns me off is the higher cost (scad is the cheapest out of all the other school's I've researched, haha~) There's also California, college of the arts in San Fran, I really love San Fran and it has good rating so I might go there, but it's the school I've done the least research on. Going to more Libral Art schools with good animation programs are USC and UCLA. those are my last resorts, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get into them, or handle going there because they're just sooooo expensive... XD

I found some of these using this great list, www.animationcareerreview.com/… you can choose colleges to look over from here.

You already put in the initial application??! I tried to on the website earlier this summer, but they wouldn't take it! 0_0  XD can you help me?

Hey Erica sorry for the late reply!!
It sounds like you have a good list going!!! I've just started to look more into colleges.. I have a list of about 25 now that ive requested info from and I want to research more.. Theyre kinda all over the place haha.. Lota of different location options...Pretty sure I'll be crossing most of them off though there's no way I'm applying to that many lol.. Savannah with remain my number one though.. I just feel such a connection there but I'd like to have backups!!!

When did you decide that you wanted to go into animation??

Ummmm as for SCAD I don't know what I did differently besides go online and just fill out the application... Worked smoothly for me and I just have to submit the rest of my application (transcript and SAT scores) ...Maybe during that time they weren't accepting? Or the website was having problems? If you experience that again I would email them..

Hey Tara, no prob~

woah, 25?? 0wo that's a lot, what are they?? I'd like to find more art schools too. haha, I understand, I crossed off so many, and now I'm only left with 3 art schools and two liberal arts. XD I really like SCAD too, since it has one of the most extensive programs and lots of options to major and minor in, plus they have lots of scholarship opportunities. ~ always good in a school. I'm also really torn, since I want to study abroad in japan, but SCAD also has their campus in Hong Kong I can go to for liberals, and- too many options to look at! XD

I decided after I started playing around and animating different things. XD I realized, that, if I can't get a certain Cloud story animated into an anime as a manga artist, then I'd animate it myself into a movie or a television show. Animation is one of my favorite mediums now, I made a couple over the summer for test practice. XD I also want to minor in storyboarding if I go to SCAD, or game design or sequential art. I'm also working on a second style, a more cartoony one just in case. But I'd like to test the waters with other things too.

hmm, ok, thanks for the insight. I'll try again, and if not, I'll email or call them. XD I'm thinking of doing an interview for Calarts, since that one is tough to get into and they greatly weight your interviews when it comes to applying. I'll probably do one for SCAD too, maybe. I'm disappointed they don't allow early app though...

I think five is a good list though! Haha...Honestly thats my goal.. Basically I went through the top hundred thing and wrote down the ones that interested me based on location and size andthe intensity of the animation program..
I have to do more research but they aren't all art schools haha..

Oh really?? I was planning on maybe playing around with that in my independent art study this year... My computer that works with my tablet is a grandpa and wouldn't be able to handle it lol..

Yeah ive heard a lot about cal arts..doesnt sato want to go there?? .. I just dont prefer the fact that its affiliated a lot with Disney...I want more options and opportunities ...Plus I don't really see myself in Cali..

WaterzDragon In reply to tlnnlt [2014-08-09 08:42:15 +0000 UTC]

Mhm, Size and Location were huge things for me, but I've always wanted a small school, but the smaller they are, the less scholarship money they can send out, so it has me torn apart man...T_T Yeah, I also like the option where you go to a cheap liberal arts school (also an opportunity to study abroad, there's lots of liberal arts colleges around the world that speak English- there's a cool one in Switzerland!) for a year or less to kill off any pre- requisite classes then transfer into art schools- but the transfer process is a lot more intense then applying your first year, so I'm not sure...0_o

Haha, it's ok. XD It's more like how many slides you can draw and just slap it on windows movie maker- the ghetto way to animate without animation programs. XDD I've also done some deep thinking and talking around with the colleges and might just take the half IB program, so I can take some college classes second semester to get some credits- that's what my mom's friends did too. I have to see if it's alright though. I'm pissed that you can only get the IB diploma if you score good on a TEST. And you gotta pay big bucks for it.

Yeah, That's the reason it's at the bottom of my list...XD I don't really think that it has lots of options, just animation and dance, music and all that- I also didn't see lots of scholarships and programs to help their students get jobs, like job fairs and all that...but their animation program is considered the best in the United States, and possibly the world, so that's something- I think that's it's biggest selling point. XD Been looking up lots of scholarship opportunities, it really sucks when they tell you- 'you don't have a 'need'.' -_- Even more so when you have merit schoolarships, it happened to my mom's friends daughter. MERIT.

Really?? A small school?? I would say you'd loveeee Ringling then.. I went there not expecting much but it was really really really impressive and they do have a lot of options surprisingly ... Especially in career opportunities.. Its just expensiveeeeeee haha.. And I want a bigger school to be honest... Not HUGE but big enough to where I won't feel confined haha.. The town around Ringling is really nice too.. Very artsy(:

Yeah I decided the IB program was not worth it for me -_- lol... I have to save money for stuff I actually WANT to do...
And yeah I understand with the whole pre-rec stuff... But what I like about the art colleges is that they say. We know you got in here to do art and be creative and you were accepted mostly because of that so we're not gunna let you fail a math or English class.. They have all of that help for you... Plus its usually in that first year that you get all of those basic art skill classes too!

Rahhhh money stuff is stupid..

Oooohhhhh, now I'm really interest. XDDD I'm gonna check it out! Thank you~ I looked at the online tour, and I was like- 'wow, I like dis campus...~~' XDD But the cost always makes you spit out your sanity, I fear the cost...0_o

Haha, True that, sometimes I wonder- Why do you make us pay for a test, when it doesn't guarantee you getting the IB diploma?? Even if I did amazing in the class itself??? And how the seniors turned out last year, I really worry about it... Yeah, the art colleges are really considerate with that, especially with SCAD, being able to knock out a math class if you hit a certain score on your SAT or more. XD Another bonus for going to SCAD! And it also helps you getting accustom to the system of the school and how to get around and everything. I'm just super disappointed they don't have a study abroad program for Japan, I asked an advisor, and he said- 'that's what we have the other campuses for.' ;_; still, France and Hong Kong are major awesome places. XDD

The money stuff is super stupid...-_-

tlnnlt In reply to WaterzDragon [2014-08-09 19:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I really liked that campus.. And they seemed to have a little bit of everything...plenty of dorms... Nice library.. Really nice studios ..a gym.. If you want I can tell you all about it next time I see you! And I can bring you an extra booklet I have.. Everyone was super duper nice too haha.. The only thing is that their animation program is really competitive.. They say they usually get about 600 applicants and they only accept 150 so they look for a really strong portfolio.. I'm still going to apply though haha..

Yeah a lot of schools with give you credit for IB but you have to usually get a pretty high score p:

Hmmmmmm yeah Idk I'm happy with my study abroad options at SCAD.. I had never really though t of studying abroad before but Ive always wanted to go to Europe so I'd love to be able to go to France (: I'm thinking about minoring in illustration and that would allow me to go there I think((: cuz it depends on what your planning to study.. Which makes sense.. I'm not sure if Ringling had study abroad stuff haha... Normally the more study abroad programs are going to be at bigger colleges with more programs... I can totally see you Japan though .. Especially since you've been studying the language for so long

That would be great, thanks! I'd love to learn more about it, I need more art colleges haha~ Another question, to they just offer 3D animation, because I looked around on the site and campus, and they're (really) proud of their 3D animation...but 2D? Do they offer that as a Major or offer it at all? :/ I'm probably not looking in the right places or maybe I've missed something, but you've been there! I trust you.

Yea, and seeing what I have to go through to get that score when really, there's a big percentage that I'm just wasting my money paying for a test and suffering through classes like TOK when I could be focusing and preparing for college is meaningless enough...-w-;;;

Mm, I was impressed that they had campuses in other places at all! Anywhere is a good place to study abroad, (as long as it's safe, for parents to feel secure with their children going there) and I seriously love traveling to other countries...but Japan has a special place in my heart, the first time I went, I felt completely at home no matter where I was. XD and my dad told me if you don't go to japan during college, you probably won't study in japan ever. (that's the only downside with Art colleges, it seems like they aren't very flexible with their studying abroad programs because they're curriculum is so specified >_<) I'm going to try and major in animation then get two minors hopefully. We figured out a schedule on how my years would be if I majored in Animation at scad, and looked at the options available for minors and how we could fit them into the quarterly system.

tlnnlt In reply to WaterzDragon [2014-08-10 00:21:41 +0000 UTC]

Yep they teach you everything under the category of animation! I was really impressed... I even saw their 2D lab and its superrrr nice... all of their tables were actually donated by Disney..It was actually really cute..
But yeah, from what your telling me I think that you would love Ringling.. its the perfect small art school fit for you... plus I know that they had some minors as well that can be directed towards your major ..Ill tell you all about it!(: the virtual tour is nice but it actually didn't give it justice in my opinion(: Program wise, its amazing... I just don't think the size was for me... I'm still going to apply though! haha..  wouldn't be disspointed going there..
If you went to SCAD I don't know if you would like the savannah campus if your looking for a smaller school... the school itself is huge no doubt, seeing that they have so many locations ...but savannah is their largest one...with like..70 different buildings throughout the town.. Its a very different lifestyle because you don't really have a campus.. its more like living in the town haha...except you would be in a dorm... and the animation building is actually the farthest away from everything. We had to take our tour on a little bus.. but it would take a lot of responsibility and independence to get around you know? haha... I loved the town through I felt very at home there because I just loved the quaint atmosphere(: I feel that's just me haha
Weren't you interested in the Hong Kong location??
Maybe you should google arts school with study abroad options to Japan...ya never know what might up(: haha

Really?? That's so funny because I wanted to do two majors as well ..apparently you can take as many as you want as long as you complete the hours for it haha.. I want to minor in illustration and business haha

Sweeeeeetttttt- that makes me super excited!! Gonna go do some more research on it now! woah, if that's the case, I was already impressed with the Virtual tour, so if I went there in person, it would be a super intense connection I bet. XD

aw, it's the furthest away??? nehhhhh...;;; The virtual tour for the campus was huge, I was pretty overwhelmed. 0_o And that was the virtual tour, so in real life, I think I would be even more overwhelmed. But I really like the way they lay out their rooms and the variety of buildings they had dedicated to certain classes. They're also the only or one of the few(?) art colleges that has sequential art...I wanted to try some of it for a bit, maybe it would help with storyboarding, but I know sequential art isn't something that get's the food on the table...>_< I really like Savanna's location, with it being near the water, but I would want to go to Atlanta more, because cartoon network's headquarters is RIGHT THERE. 0w0 Good internship opportunities. I would want to go to Hong Kong for liberals my first year, since it's focus is mainly fashion when it comes to majors and stuff, so I won't stay there all 4 years. I'd also try and use the summer time to get more done and finish college quicker. Just curious, what do you think about Pratt? I don't know if you visited, but what are your thoughts on it, based on what you heard and other things...?

Yeah, I'm actually going to go to japan this coming fall break, because my mom's friend works for the airlines and got us passes, so we're really thankful. Then we're going to fly over to Hong Kong and check out SCAD, ask questions, get feedback and stuff. I hope so, Japan and America are two animation powerhouses, I think that's why I never see any American art colleges in Japan, even though Japan is an awesome place to learn about animation. I still hope though!

really? Cool! That kind of makes me want to take three, but that would prolong my stay in college, so...XD Maybe you can do stuff in advertising and work for the big companies!

Hehe yes I loved it((: was very impressed((: twas a very cute college! (Cute but awesome) lol

Yeahhhh its about a 15- 20 minute ride from the center of all of the buildings... They couldn't even fit it onto my tour map Haha... So balancing that and other classes would be challenging haha... I guess once you get to your senior year you basically live there though lolol

Pratt?? I didn't visit there but I've heard of it.. I was actually going to look more into it..it intrigued me(: just don't know if I'm a new York gal you know?? Haha.. Location is important to me ...by I requested information from them and I'm going to research more

That's awesome! Visiting colleges is so much funnnn... But..are you considering any of the colleges you saw on that road trip you went on? O_o

Yeah I met a lady who did 8 minors lol.... Craziness lol... Ummmmmm I don't know I dont really wanna work in advertising... My dream is to work with movies.. Which is always something I've been attracted to.. With working on the plays and all

WaterzDragon In reply to tlnnlt [2014-08-10 04:00:41 +0000 UTC]

nnnn...so it's not much better than SCAD in Hong kong, which takes a 30 minute bus drive from A to B...-w-;; But that's true, Senior year they just stay in that one building and work on all their projects and stuff throughout the nights...XD

Hmm, actually one of the only colleges that I really considered was Chapman, because they have a good animation program too, but not as good as the other art colleges. It was small, nice, had really REALLY nice dorms a good distance away from the campus, and it was in a safe area~ Otis was alright, but they focused more on toymaking and other things, not really animation. USC and UCLA were there too, so I was weighing them all, but I didn't really like USC...:/ our guide didn't really focus on curriculum, they focused on all the 'cool' party things there...and she was a student we had connections with, they didn't even offer to give us an official guide. :/

Woah, 8?????? *mindblown* must have been cool getting all those minors though. XD lots more options to go for. I remember that, we always talk about how you would either be working with animation or directing or drawing out movies. Have you thought about doing something with performing arts too? I know you did that a lot, and Annika keeps talking about it too, the backstage side of it.

tlnnlt In reply to WaterzDragon [2014-08-10 04:39:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah in Savannah they said that the animation department is like its own little world which I thought was hilarious lolol.... I can totally see that hahaha all of these animation people creating their own worlds in the dark lololol

Ummmmmm I don't know.. I dot think if want to .. .I love backstage stuff though.. I'd do that for movies! Hahaha..
Doesn't Annika always say that its a waste of time to pursue a career in the arts? -_-" .. I thought she wanted to go into medicine

Movies are really awesome, especially with all the new stuff coming out~ I know, I was thinking- 'wait a minute Annika, what about...;;; ' Apparently she wanted a college that had both science, and performing arts, and I am surprised, but she found one! I guess she changed her mind, eh?~~

Yep I'd love to work in movies!(: aaaaah its my dream haha... I mean, I figure I'm going to college and end up figuring out exactly what I wanna do based off of what I learn.. Heck there's a lot you can do with an animation degree!

XDDD That sounds lime so much fun, ahaha~~ You'd make lots of great memories to re-tell at get togethers and stuff.

That's a pretty good idea, look at what you learn then figure out the area focus you want you career to be in. ^^ Which sounds more appealing to you by the way, 2D or 3D animation...? And right now, I'm sorting out part of my portfolio, and I really want to put those charcoal drawings we did in freshman year, you know the still lifes? would you have any idea or clue where they would be...? Mrs. Russel had mine up in her room, but she took it down and said the last place she saw it was on the cabinet, but it wasn't in the cabinet so....

Ummmm I'm not sure.. I'd like to learn both((: haha.. I love the look and feel of 2D though so ive always been more attracted to that.. But I think just like in drawing, you create your own style with anything so I think I could really like 3D..who knows!! Haha

Rahhhh portfolio.... So scaryyyyyy... I'm nervous because I need to research what's best to include in a portfolio.. Cuz I've heard that its better to stay away from stuff such as anime and stuff.. So in the past week ive been sketching a lot of ideas that I'm thinking of painting or doing a final piece of haha...what kind of works are you putting together??

Ummmm... No I actually have no idea.. I would ask mrs Ortiz

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WaterzDragon In reply to tlnnlt [2014-08-10 23:44:40 +0000 UTC]

gotcha. I really love 2D too, but I think 3D has lots of variety, like wit game design and stuff. XD I'm so torn. I'd love to see how characters would come out in 3D animation.

Aughhh, you heard that too????? Did the schools tell you that in person??? UUU- it's ok, at least they allow lots of variety, so you don't have to show off just your style of drawing...I've been researching lots of other styles, and there's one that's the perfect blend of cartoon and anime, so I'm trying to gain a second style. I've also looked up lots of tips (they're mostly for CalArts, but they can ring true for other schools) and it's mostly, show off creativity, go for the experimenting be unique, be yourself and don't try to hold yourself back. XD For SCAD, I'm getting mostly my art projects from school (like watercolor paintings, acrylic paintings and digital paintings). For CalArts I have to turn in a complete sketchbook with 10-20 other separate life and figure drawings...gotta look up the other two schools and see what they want...XDDD But I'm kind of freaked out since they're in a bit of a manga style...

ok...I asked her and she had no idea, so I think I'll just go in an intense hunt throughout all the closets and cabinets in the school when we get back.

tlnnlt In reply to WaterzDragon [2014-08-11 01:29:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah(; but the nice thing is that going to a program that allows more diversity in their animation program will really help because if you know how to do it ALL then you can always revisit it(: you pick something that maybe you feel more attracted to and can also develop the other skills as well!! Haha.. Its kinda like the art classes we had freshman year.. We kinda did a little bit of everything which let us learn what we like and what we don't haha

Ummmm Ringling was definitely the stricterof the two by far.. For animation in the packet they specifically stated that its better to stay away from anime.. But I don't think its because of a thing towards anime, but more that its very common.. And a lot of the time someone will construct a style without an understanding of anatomy and stuff haha... I don't think there's anything wrong with having an anime style..you know?... Cuz hey, as much as you gotta show your art skills you also have to represent yourself..

Wow a complete sketchbook?? That's crazy

I've been going crazy in this little sketchbook that I bought before school started... Going at it like a madman with watercolors pencils pens and a glue stick lol trying to just have fun with it and experiment and its a lot of fun Hahaha

WaterzDragon In reply to tlnnlt [2014-08-11 01:52:25 +0000 UTC]

mhm, it's good because they're both similar in their basics. XD I did some research on 3D animation and it was pretty interesting. I have this thing with animation, where I love 3D, the graphics in the movies and everything in the games, but then I see movies like Ghibli (I heard they're not going to produce animated movies and are going to shut down temporarily, is that right??) and the traditional Disney movies along with the cartoons from my childhood and I get all excited about both. XD

Yeah, manga and anime style is really common, and it's attractive so lots of people tend to go after that, I can see why they'd do that. I'm also in the process of finding my own unique cartoon style, and changing around my manga style a lot too...I've been trying over the entire summer break. XD

lol, really?? me too! I bought a small sketchbook at the beginning of summer and I got a ton of stuff in there- even rens Vietnam stuff, based strongly on my Vietnam visit. XD I have some life drawings with pen and stuff, and I even made some of my first cartoon OCs. ^^ That's the sketchbook I'll send to cal arts, but I looked at some examples of accepted and rejected sketchbooks alike, and I'm freaking out because they're all awesome. But I found their differences, so I'll go off of their changes.

Yeah Idk I'll see where it takes me you know?(: ...and whaaaat whoo??

Yeah immm practicing a lot of very different styles haha.. Just going for it.. But i still have my own root style that kind of spawns everything else and that I love and I've worked so hard for haha.. But I believe that I've kinda begun to drift away from more of an anime style .. Maybe because i havent been watching ornreading it as much haha....I've also found a lot of inspirations from artists that I now follow so I love seeing all of the styles Haha

Aaaaaaaah I miss ren and maoooook

Ghibli! recently, all the fans have been making a huge deal about some things that the founders and heads of ghibli said about the company going down, but there are some who say it isn't...?? I'm not sure...? ;_;

Yeah, I've found myself looking at different styles, but I'm in a limbo- I don't like the traditional cartoon style, it's too stiff, Disney's style isn't for me, and anime style like bleach and naruto (shonen) doesn't have much difference with certain features, like eyes. One Piece does though, but I see it as more of a unique style than a seriotypical manga style. I want a style that's dynamic, can animate well and has some sick flow to it but is also original. XD I follow a bunch of people that I found from SCAD and other places who's styles pull me in that way. I'm going to keep my root style and try to grow it along with my cartoon style to see where it will lead me. XD

I know, I'll be honest, over the summer, I was so caught up on making new styles and improving myself, that I barely drew cloud ten. ._. well, compared to what I used to before summer. I have some sketches though!

So sad...

Yeah I know what you mean! A stiff looking style bothers me a lot -_- .. Or feels stiff eww Haha..

Yeah no don't feel bad I have abused a lot of characters as well the poor things.. I've been in the process of redrawing a lot of them though and it's been a lot of fun Hahaha((:

mm, I see...that's a lot better than completely closing down, but I'm worried...

haha, I really love the creativity of certain cartoon styles, like Samurai Jack and dexters lab, but some of the characters are so stiff when they're just standing around, it makes me feel dull. XD

ohhh, it's always fun to give all of them some love. I drew taka ONCE this entire summer. XD

Oh god, I love when they add variety to body types, like the tall and thin or big boned, muscular and those cute and plump characters. XD I also love expressions and stuff too, and body language.~

oh, those chapters! XD that reminds me, I haven't drawn chapters in a while...I drew a page of Karasu dunking a basketball and that was about it... ._. what about you?
