Anyhow, I love this picture. Crimson Shell doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves (noodle people none withstanding, the story and main characters are great), and this parallel had to be done. Oz and Zion are indeed very similar, and the way you entwine them with undone belts and roses (the latter being a recurring theme in both series) works very well.
I also like the contrast between the boys' fair complexion and the sinister black roses. And above all else...

That's what I assumed, since Mochizuki likes mixing in Wonderland references and "Liddle" seems too arbitrary of a last name. Not sure about the official translation, though!
Yep, I really enjoyed Crimson-Shell! While the characters share some similarities in appearance to their PH successors, their personalities maintain individuality. Oz resembles Zion in plot significance as much as in appearance.

In any case, the official French translation was indeed Liddell. I guess most scanlators missed the reference. Zion is called "Scion," however, which is...weird, to say the least. 
I could still find similarities personality-wise, mostly for Zion/Oz (father issues, identity crisis, fake cheerfulness, great acting skills, repressed sadism, would do anything for his friends) and Ruskin/Oscar (pretty much everything). For me, it was part of the fun; all the more because it felt like reading a GilxAlice fan comic, at times.
That said, Crimson Shell is still very good as a stand-alone, and in my humble opinion, Zion is by far the most rounded character.

Ah Crimson Shell. I really enjoyed that one in spite of how short it was. I liked Zion even though I couldn't entirely place why. I always thought his character design looked similar to Oz. Claudia looked like an Alice clone practically. Maybe it's because of the art style or that she hadn't quite mastered making characters look different, but a lot of the CS characters resembled PH characters in my opinion.

It's the PH characters that resemble the CS characters, since Crimson-Shell came first. There are obvious similarities because MochiJun prefers certain traits. Still, even if the characters look similar, their personalities are quite different!

Ahhh. I wasn't entirely sure about the order. I stated it based on the order in which I read them. I can hardly blame her for having a tendency to draw characters a certain way. I do the same thing. I also admit that the personalities varied greatly and they were all very unique. It was just something that amused me as I read them. I have a preference for the PH characters. Most likely because of how well they are developed. I would have enjoyed CS as a longer series, but she pulled it off as a one shot remarkably well considering how much substance she put into it.

I liked the twist very much- almost as much as the one in Retrace 70
