Sad about the crop damage but the photo itself is stunning, Wayne! When I was on the Prairies two summers ago the cloud formations were gorgeous and like nothing I'd ever seen in Ontario.

Hi Brett, I have heard from farmers over hundreds of miles across the prairie. Damage in some areas is total. I talked to the relative of one farmer who has been totally hailed out. I grew up in NW Ont, and moved here in 1974. In that time I have become a prairie person, needing the open expanse of sky. Early on a friend visited me, he had never been on the prairie, and the commented again and again on how the clouds looked. It is funny, but it took him to make a comment to make me see it. I had simple accepted them as they were. I hink that says something about people (and photographers). If we just accept things as they are, there is no awe or wonder in them, and they go unnoticed. But if we see them as unique or different some how, we have a chance to create art. It is something that I have worked on over the years. I suppose it will be a life long effort.

What a disaster this year has been for so many people in Canada's prairie provinces.
As for your comments on the necessity of the artist's eye, well said!

lol... on this day yes... but believe me, it was NOT intentional. I prefer just to be warm, safe and dry.

Pretty photo! I love the composition and colors. This makes me feel like running till I drop across the field. Hail doesn't do anyone any good as we were hit hard with larger than baseball size hail in Texas back in April. Great job.

Great shot Wayne - these "significant" weather events are happening more often and with greater intensity.. I appreciate that El Ninõ is in play for the northern Atlantic currents, but the world as a whole is seeing such events so El Ninõ cannot be the common cause....

Major thunderstorms are a part of the prairie. Even W.O. Michell wrote of one in the book "Who Has Seen the Wind". But I too think they are becoming more frequent and more powerful. We how have tornado warnings and touch downs every year, something that I do not recall happening before 1995.

Hi Pam.
I am not sure one would enjoy camping while that was overhead. It was beautiful, but also very powerful. We had two very bad storms this week one day after the other.

Okay well maybe not "right there" but somewhere pretty and I'll camp out in one of those old houses, live off the land if I had to. Cause I'm stuck in crazy town.

true.... very true. Mostly wind over us... by blessing or luck the storm was narrowest at the point it went over us. No hail here... which is a blessing... My roof replacement was finished on Tuesday.

It is already past this area David heading south east. I followed it for about 100 km seeing the damage it had left.
