The expression in the eye gives a wonderful effect to the piece. it's center position draws the person in. The downwards-angle of the fur below the head confuses me though - is he an anthro/werewolf? It seems a bit too straight down for either a typical wolf or a humanized one. (It just seems to be moved like a lawn along the side.) I know this is old, it's just something to keep in mind. Real creatures have curves.

Very nice though. Pencil or charcoal?

I like the overall mood the piece. The wolf's face and the tree really make an interesting composition as well as subject matter. The fur line is great how its varied in color and type. I like how you didn't skimp out on the variation of the animal itself so good job. I also like the variation in the trees bark since the bark if plain would have not reflect the variation in the wolf.

Maybe for another piece, don't be afraid to make the overall space--negative and positive--bigger. Don't encapsulate your subject matter too closely or the view might feel trapped, unless that is what you wanted. If the wolf had more space to the left, it is possible that the wolf itself could look bigger against the tree or vice versa.

Well, nice job and keep it up!

Thank you. I do agree with the negative space. The original had it, but when it was entered in a competition it was cut down without me knowing, so.... But thanks again for the comment and the great critique.

Beautiful I like it too. I like how you have the wolf's eye so cautious.

Thanks for actually noticing that, most people don't.
