Another one of those Clashes That Was Bound To Happen, only it won't end in squeeing and hugs.Prowl is acting over-emotional here, but he's had a few and has reasons for thinking he deserves a few more. The short answer is that he's not impressed with the local Autobots. The long answer will be a comic in the next couple weeks.
Here's one for you people who keep asking me for Mary-Sue Litmus Tests: If your character, who is an ex-Decepticon who joined the Autobots 'for her own reasons', 'because she's seen too much', or 'because her family is dead', gets into an angst contest with Bluestreak and he fails to shoot her in the face because her kind destroyed everyone he ever knew and here she is whining about how her life is soooooo tragic, because he agrees that her loss was greater than his even though it darn well wasn't, I think you got a pretty big 'Sue.
The bar has suddenly gained new wallpaper, probably put up by the new bartender. Because Tankane knows fuel and nobody trusts Mixmaster.

Toy-wise, Sunstreaker's the best, followed by Prowl, folowed by Tankane. I can just find more uses for Prowl and Tankane.
I tend not to say that things are impossible, but this would be very, very hard. It should be awkward and odd and worse. I think it's less likely to be, "Oh, Starwave, you used to be a Decepticon general? How useful to have another great warrior on our side!" and more, "You were General Starwave, Butcher of Vilnacron? I used to have friends there. Emphasis on the 'used to', slagger."

Well, at a "general" level there will almost always be problems.
But I can easily envision a "grunt" type defecting after being ordered to do something he couldn't go through with. Now, the stretch on realism is that said "grunt" would quickly end up on the frontlines again, instead of becoming a civilian after being heavily debriefed.

Low-level would be much easier, true ( guess what never happens in fanfic. ) Might end up on the front lines fairly quickly, if he a) really wants to fight Decepticons, and b) just isn't any good at anything else. It'd still take time for him to be trusted.

I have a character, have had him for ages, who is an ex-decepticon assigned to a team best suited to infiltration/hit and run etc. missions.

Personally, I like Prowl for Prowl.
He's smart and logical and it's REALLY funny to watch his logic chips short out when you try to explain something illogical to him.

I think it's safe to say that the Fangirls have no clue what they want. Maybe if we put Jazz in Prowl's body and Bluestreak in Jazz's then they'd be satisfied.

It's true, so true. The characters are interesting when written in character. You bludgeon them to fit a different mold, and they're not that character anymore. I like Prowl because he's logical, Jazz because he's happy-go-lucky, etc.
