Artie gets back to his feet and avoids further embarrassment in Round 1.Back in his corner he is attended to by Britt, another of the Green Room foxies.
Britt takes Artie's mouthguard, rinses it and hands it back to him after he has sipped water.
"So, big boy, are you enjoying your birthday fight?"
Artie looks sad.
"I'm screwed, If I lose, everyone says I got beat by a girl, but if I knock her out everyone says I'm a heel."
"You should have thought of that before you got yourself into this, big boy."
"What should I do?"
"Do you think you can beat her?"
"Sure, she can't really hurt me she just caught me off guard for a moment."
"OK, so show your friends you can box.. Knock her out, big boy, then you'll get a second fight. Wouldn't you like two fights?"
"I thought so when I got myself into this. If Krissy knocks me out I'll be a joke."
"So give it your best shot, big boy. If you can't beat this girl you'll never live it down. Krissy's no hot shot and she knows she can get knocked out any time she fights in the Green Room. She's made that choice so don't feel sorry for her. Give her a proper fight now and you'll feel better later."
Artie thinks about it until the referee says "seconds out". He stands up and taps his gloves together.
"Thanks, Britt."
Britt smiles slyly. She 's never liked Krissy, but Artie doesn't know that.
