- gradual fill on a separate layer
- layer opacity around 80%
- layer blending mode vivid light
- layer masking

It seems pretty decent. The only reason I signed up there is the fact that strobist.com has their own group there and they have assignments on off-camera flash usage and people can send their assignment final results to that group for other strobists to see: [link]
